| #1zombie_babiesMar 26, 2010 14:04:46 | So with the new format (White Doom), do you think the staff is going to prank us again? If so, what do you think it'll be? I doubt they'll GLEEMAX!!! us again, but ya never know. ;) |
| #2boj0Mar 26, 2010 14:40:19 | I'm gonna prank my dad into thinking a got a girl pregnant; should be good for a rofl |
| #3eratoMar 26, 2010 14:50:45 | So with the new format (White Doom), do you think the staff is going to prank us again? If so, what do you think it'll be? I doubt they'll GLEEMAX!!! us again, but ya never know. ;) Last year was just painful – literally. I'm synaesthetic, meaning that colours can stimulate my sense of taste and touch, and have Asperger's syndrome, which means that sensory stimulation is often more overwhelming and harder to cope with, so looking at the sickly green Gleemax colour caused a subtle but persistent taste of bile in my mouth and a stinging sensation inside my eyes, which just meant I mostly avoided the forum for the day.
So for me, I'd much prefer for them to do something subtle for once. I think the idea of April fool's day is to fool people, so it would be nice if they could do something that a good deal of posters wouldn't recognise as a prank until it was pointed out to them. But honestly, I'd be satisfied if they just keep the boards readable and leave it at that. |
| #4KlirshonMar 27, 2010 7:49:40 | Well they could try and prank us with stating that ole Stephenie Meyer was contracted for content production but that was already done before by someone not affiliated with WotC (the nerd rage was humorous none the less). |
| #5Cpt_MichaMar 27, 2010 8:11:10 | Given that we have the White Doom already, I think they've already pranked us. For nearly a year straight now. I would almost rather see the Gleemax color scheme. |
| #6ADHadhMar 27, 2010 9:45:24 | My favourite one of those was the Mudkip craze on dA in 2008. |
| #7nikitadarkstarMar 27, 2010 10:03:54 | My favourite one of those was the Mudkip craze on dA in 2008. Have to agree on that one. Obvious prank, but still subtle enough for people to not notice right away.. and then go nuts about when they did. That was a good one. ![]() |
| #8The-Mage-KingMar 27, 2010 10:12:14 | I'm planning a big one for here, all on my lonesome. I figure I might be able to pull it off... |
| #9EscherEnigmaMar 27, 2010 12:12:34 | I'm gonna prank my dad into thinking a got a girl pregnant; should be good for a rofl Hrm... I might try that too. Call my parents and tell them I got my partner pregnant. I'm betting about three seconds of dead silence before they crack up. |
| #10darkspartanMar 28, 2010 0:44:09 | I'm gonna prank my dad into thinking a got a girl pregnant; should be good for a rofl Ten seconds, minimum. -Sarena |
| #11death_isthe_beginingMar 30, 2010 3:19:30 | If Escher is gay* I would say 3 not 10 and even if he's straight I would say closer to 5 than 10. *I don't know if Escher is gay or straight and I don't care, so don't bug me about it. |
| #12darkspartanMar 30, 2010 4:02:41 | EE is gay, he's made at least one declaration to that affect here in these Forums that I can point to. I still say ten seconds. The first three will be dedicated to whether or not they heard him correctly, five to comprehend such a thing, and the final two to realize he's being a joker and laugh their fool heads off. -Sarena |
| #13lhockeeMar 30, 2010 11:47:36 | So, what exactly did they do last year that was so awe-horrible? |
| #14zombie_babiesMar 30, 2010 11:51:44 | Well, they brought the GLEEMAX!! Gleemax thing back and did some crazy GLEEMAX!! to the whole look of the GLEEMAX!! boards. It was GLEEMAX!! ugly and rather GLEEMAX!! annoying. With the new look of the GLEEMAX!! forums, I don't know if they'll be able to GLEEMAX!! with the template like they did last GLEEMAX!! year. |
| #15lhockeeMar 30, 2010 11:56:09 | Makes sense. ![]() |
| #16zombie_babiesMar 30, 2010 12:02:45 | If you were here then, it totally would. ;) |
| #17lhockeeMar 30, 2010 12:05:38 | Nope. Ha! |
| #18EscherEnigmaMar 30, 2010 14:35:58 | To make a long story short, they changed the look of the forums to a rather horrid green scheme, including light green text on a dark green background, all mixed up with other shades of horrid green. And they played with the profanity filter such that instead of replacing each character with an asterick, they replaced each character with GLEEMAX! Oh, and just to aggravate people even more, they added all sorts of new words to the profanity filter, such as the word green, as well as most of the context-specific words you needed to talk about what was going on, though I can't remember what they actually were. Oh, and they denied doing it. All the ORCs were making statements along the lines of "I don't know what you're talking about. Everything shows up perfectly fine for me." It was pretty annoying. Some people got more personally offended then others. Some played along with it. So yeah. Hopefully they don't try a "joke" that pisses people off this year. 'cause whether you think people's rage was legitimate or not, it was still very real rage. |
| #19lhockeeMar 30, 2010 14:37:52 | Poor buggers, that would have been a hoot. Then I would have gouged out my eyes and learned to read Brail. Still, how about something Hot Pink and Bright White this year instead? Couldn't hurt. Much. |
| #20boraxeMar 30, 2010 14:52:16 | Some people got more personally offended then others. Some played along with it. Doesn't hold a candle to the My Little Pony incident of '03 (or was it '04). The nerd rage was friggin' hilarious on that one. So yeah. Hopefully they don't try a "joke" that pisses people off this year. 'cause whether you think people's rage was legitimate or not, it was still NERD RAGE. Fixed. |
| #21EscherEnigmaMar 30, 2010 15:12:03 | /shrug Rage is rage, whether you think it justified or not. |
| #22lhockeeMar 30, 2010 15:23:40 | Kettle, meet Pot. ![]() |
| #23EscherEnigmaMar 30, 2010 15:26:47 | ... ? Not sure when I've claimed I wasn't a hypocrit from time to time, and if I was, I was being either stupidly optimist, drunk, or lying. |
| #24lhockeeMar 30, 2010 15:27:49 | Oh, I was only jesting, EE. Personally, I'm on your "Side" as far as this matter is concerned. Rage is rage; the source is irrelevant. |
| #25zombie_babiesMar 30, 2010 15:37:16 | Umm, no. The source is the most imporant aspect here, people. Gawd! It's like I'm talking to a friggin' wall! Consider the source, dammit! Why wouldn't you? You got somethin' better? Better than the friggin' source? Yeah, I believe that. This kind of crap makes me sick. ![]() |
| #26lhockeeMar 30, 2010 15:40:25 | Got Source, ZB? ![]() |
| #27zombie_babiesMar 30, 2010 15:46:57 | Yeah. Yeah, I do. I AM THE FRIGGIN' SOURCE, MAN! ME!! *ahem* Umm ... so about them apples? How do you like 'em? |
| #28lhockeeMar 30, 2010 15:47:54 | It's a mute point, I prefer oranges to apples. |
| #29toastedamphibianMar 30, 2010 15:51:47 | Stupid mute apples. |
| #30zombie_babiesMar 30, 2010 16:05:54 | It's a mute point, I prefer oranges to apples. What's the inability to speak got to do with anything? Switchin' the subject, I see. And bein' contrary just to do it, too. Nobody likes oranges over apples. Not nobody, not nohow. |
| #31lofgrenMar 30, 2010 16:09:28 | Really it depends on the type of apple and orange. I will take a cara cara orange over a red delicious apple anyday. Red delicious apples taste like cardboard. |
| #32lhockeeMar 30, 2010 16:11:51 | Mmm, cardboard tastes great with some lint-spread. |
| #33Dougan_AxehammerMar 30, 2010 22:42:16 | Well I actually prefer oranges to apples (it's probably the citric acid that I enjoy, and the amount of sugars.) But I'm lazy, and I find oranges really hard to peel without making a huge mess (haven't figured that one out yet) so I tend typically eat apples more than I do oranges. However, bananas, that's the fruit: easy to peel and tasty to eat. Mmmm. |
| #34ADHadhMar 31, 2010 6:59:54 | I prefer apples to oranges, but I'll take orange juice over apple juice any time. |
| #35darkspartanMar 31, 2010 10:39:10 | Strawberries Rule. Chocolate sauce is optional, but very tasty. -Sarena |
| #36EscherEnigmaMar 31, 2010 11:58:57 | All this fruit talk is disgusting. Why people like those things I'll never understand. |
| #37dirtyfrankMar 31, 2010 12:10:47 | To make a long story short, they changed the look of the forums to a rather horrid green scheme, including light green text on a dark green background, all mixed up with other shades of horrid green. And they played with the profanity filter such that instead of replacing each character with an asterick, they replaced each character with GLEEMAX! Green was one of them. I think skin and background were also included. I think there was another one or two but can't remember. but yeah any (technical) word that was needed to talk about this in the community business forum or any other forums that regarded such bugy forum stuff was put on the profanity filter. Oh, and they denied doing it. All the ORCs were making statements along the lines of "I don't know what you're talking about. Everything shows up perfectly fine for me." First they just denied it. Then they started responding in different green colors. Then they StArTeD tHiS. Then they started that dumb borg assimilation junk with all the other junk above. That was a day i spent pissed an complaining rather than being happy in the OTT. At that time they had glitches that needed to be fixed but rather than work on those they decided to frank up the forums for a day. go figure. So yeah. Hopefully they don't try a "joke" that pisses people off this year. 'cause whether you think people's rage was legitimate or not, it was still very real rage. hopefully but doubt it (if they do try a joke). |
| #38darkspartanMar 31, 2010 13:52:41 | Strawberries are not a fruit. They're a berry, by definition. Tomatoes are a fruit. -Sarena |
| #39toastedamphibianMar 31, 2010 14:52:06 | Strawberries are not a fruit. They're a berry, by definition. Tomatoes are a fruit. Dogs are not animals. They're canids, by definition. Wolves are animals. "Berry" is a cataegory of fruit. Tomatoes are fruit. Tomatoes are berries. Edit: Actually, Strawberries (an example of "Accesory Fruit") as well as blackberry, raspberry, mulberry and bayberry (examples of "Compound Fruit") are not actually berries at all, so says wikipedia. |
| #40dirtyfrankMar 31, 2010 14:57:28 | Tomatoes are a fruit. Genetically yeah but i believe that if you're selling (or is it shipping?) them then they count as a vegetable (for tax reasons IIRC). |
| #41lofgrenMar 31, 2010 15:09:51 | Tomatoes are a fruit. Tax law makes a distinction between fruits and vegetables? |
| #42zombie_babiesMar 31, 2010 15:11:10 | Yes. Bureaucracy trumps science and nature. |
| #43EscherEnigmaMar 31, 2010 15:19:04 | Strawberries are sweet, tomatoes are not. And so strawberries are disgusting fruits, and tomatoes are delicious vegetables. |
| #44lofgrenMar 31, 2010 15:26:09 | Tomatoes are very sweet. I don't know what tomatoes you are eating but they might be diseased. That's weird about the fruits and vegetables. I remember when California wanted to establish a tax on "snacks" but not on "food," and there was endless bickering over what constituted a snack vs. a food. How would you make the argument that something is a fruit or a vegetable? Is it like Family Feud, where they just go to the survey, and if enough people say vegetable then it must be a vegetable? |
| #45zombie_babiesMar 31, 2010 15:26:45 | Tomatoes can be kind of sweet. 'Specially the li'l cherry ones. ![]() |
| #46dirtyfrankMar 31, 2010 15:44:16 | Yes. Bureaucracy trumps science and nature. Yep yep If i remember the story correctly back some time ago there was a tax on veggies and not fruits and so the government decided to see tomatoes as veggies in order to get taxes from them. Now i could have some of this story wrong but meh it's something like this. |

| #51KlirshonMar 31, 2010 18:41:53 | ToastedAmphibian made my day... such a classic internet picture/meme. I'm certain someone will make a complaint of it and have it taken down though. |
| #52Dark_StrykeApr 01, 2010 1:09:09 | Strawberries are sweet, tomatoes are not. And so strawberries are disgusting fruits, and tomatoes are delicious vegetables. From a biological standpoint, the tomato you eat is the fruit of the tomato plant. Whatever you call them, they are delicious. |
| #53zombie_babiesApr 01, 2010 8:47:26 | So I'm not noticing any April Foolery thus far. Interesting ... |
| #54Cpt_MichaApr 01, 2010 8:48:23 | That's the joke you see. |
| #55zombie_babiesApr 01, 2010 8:54:53 | The way I see it is that it could be one of three things: 1) They simply aren't in yet to start with the 'funny'. 2) The new format (and third party involvement) makes it too difficult to be worthwhile. or 3) They took so much crap last time that they're 'punishing' us for it. |
| #56death_isthe_beginingApr 01, 2010 9:14:30 | I think the current owners just don't care. |
| #57eratoApr 01, 2010 9:46:44 | So I'm not noticing any April Foolery thus far. Interesting ... They've just hidden it very well. |
| #58zombie_babiesApr 01, 2010 9:52:07 | They've just hidden it very well. Ahh. So it's not a prank, really. Just a childish dig at some folks that have some problems with 4e. Yeah, that seems about right. ;) |
| #59eratoApr 01, 2010 10:06:31 | They've just hidden it very well. At least it's subtle, and it doesn't prevent anyone from accessing the page or reading the forum without suffering physical discomfort. I'm satisfied, and many people even seem to find it funny in itself (as opposed to finding others' discomfort funny). It's miles ahead of GLEEMAX! in that aspect. |
| #60Cpt_MichaApr 01, 2010 10:19:17 | Gleemax was funny. Or at least better than White Doom though :-p But then you are talking to a guy that thinks that a Dodge Challenger should only ever look like this |
| #61dirtyfrankApr 01, 2010 11:39:18 | So I'm not noticing any April Foolery thus far. Interesting ... If by hidden you mean on the D&D home site then i concur. ;) |
| #62zombie_babiesApr 01, 2010 12:03:38 | At least it's subtle, and it doesn't prevent anyone from accessing the page or reading the forum without suffering physical discomfort. I'm satisfied, and many people even seem to find it funny in itself (as opposed to finding others' discomfort funny). It's miles ahead of GLEEMAX! in that aspect. Oh yeah, it's like a million times better than what they did last year. I much prefer this. |

| #66dirtyfrankApr 01, 2010 13:50:28 | I see that someone decided to mess with the title of this thread. Isn't that glitch suppose to be getting fixed and exactly how does one do that so it can be fixed we people do do it? |
| #67Dark_StrykeApr 01, 2010 13:52:05 | Too bad, I was hoping to experience all this Green Doom everyone was yammering on about. Yes. So far as I know, the death toll after 'green doom' was remarkably low. |

| #69zombie_babiesApr 01, 2010 13:52:51 | I see that someone decided to mess with the title of this thread. Report the post. Use the 'Other' category and say something like this: Disruptive post. Uses bug to add text to thread title. Check for hidden html text. Please delete so title returns to normal. This poster has done this multiple times now. Looks like a persona created to disrupt the boards. Please suspend this account to stop the disruption. |
| #70toastedamphibianApr 01, 2010 15:52:42 | They've just hidden it very well. I would buy this book. Seriously. I tottally want it. And they arn't even going to make it, are they? Bastards. |
| #71boraxeApr 01, 2010 15:56:41 | Rage is rage, whether it justified or not. Fixed. Someone being "personally offended" and rage-quitting the WotC forums becuase their avatar was changed to My Little Pony for a day is not justified, and no amount of fence-sitting touchy-feely "all opinions are equally valid" PC rubbish will make it so. |
| #72The-Mage-KingApr 01, 2010 16:03:41 | I see that someone decided to mess with the title of this thread. I'll tell you how to use that glitch, in a way that won't get it on to the thread title. It involves starting out with the coding for inputing a link into your signature, and then taking off the in the back. Then, what ever you put right between the thing before it and that one become... The new prefix to the title of the thread. Hopefully, this won't do anything... |
| #73ADHadhApr 01, 2010 16:11:42 | Rage is rage, whether it justified or not. Well, that was uncalled for. Today on deviantART everyone's avatars were changed to something silly. It seems everyone I know got "Team Seeker" featuring Richard, Kahlan or both. And I'm stuck with GaGa. |
| #74EscherEnigmaApr 01, 2010 16:50:21 | Someone being "personally offended" and rage-quitting the WotC forums becuase their avatar was changed to My Little Pony for a day is not justified, and no amount of fence-sitting touchy-feely "all opinions are equally valid" PC rubbish will make it so. Right... so by no tmaking snap judgements about people and situations which I wasn't involved with, don't really care about, and don't care to learn more about, I'm being "PC" and that's a bad thing. Noted. |
| #75dirtyfrankApr 01, 2010 19:12:53 | On the Travian forums, for the April fools thingy, they made it seem like everyone is banned. It's just for show and there is the normal banned thingy by everyone's name/avatar but other than that everything is fine. Well there is also a notice at the top saying stuff about your temp ban thingy. Dear dirtyfrank, It's is kinda ammusing. Oh also all their mods are now called modbots. Such as modbot1337, modbot90210. or modbot9001. ya know silly stuff like that. I kinda like the stuff they're doing over there. noticable and not annoying. |
| #76lhockeeApr 03, 2010 9:38:32 | Apocalypse's can be fun sometimes! Though I did enjoy WotC's little Roll-Playing joke. That was just funny on many different levels. |
| #77boraxeApr 05, 2010 9:23:13 | Right... so by no tmaking snap judgements about people and situations which I wasn't involved with, don't really care about, and don't care to learn more about, I'm being "PC" and that's a bad thing. Noted. Sure, if you wish. I was addressing the general philosophy evinced in your post not aiming a critique at you, the poster. In the '03 (or was it '04) MLP incident everyone's avatar was changed to a My Little Pony for the day. Several people claimed this was a personal insult to them - even though it was entirely impersonal as it effected everyone equally - threw giant screaming tantrums across a number of forums, and rage-quit the boards over it. That's pretty much the extent of it, and thus my assertion that kind of childishness and unfounded rage is never justified. |
| #78EscherEnigmaApr 05, 2010 12:31:10 | I was addressing the general philosophy evinced in your post not aiming a critique at you, the poster. ... Is this one of those "hate the sin, not the sinner" sorts of excuses? |
| #79boraxeApr 05, 2010 13:27:53 | ... Is this one of those "hate the sin, not the sinner" sorts of excuses? Well, since it is not an "excuse" the answer is clearly "no". I don't owe you an excuse, or anything for that matter. I offered an explanation, nothing more. If you don't like that explanation then that's too bad, I told you precisely what I meant and you attempt to imply I am being disingenuous is nonsense. I'll not apologize for what I wrote, but I offer my apologies if I inadvertently offended you. |
| #80EscherEnigmaApr 05, 2010 13:37:14 | Boraxe darling, there is nothing "inadvertent" about how you offend people. And to pretend that you can insult the "general philosophy evinced in your post" without insulting or appearing to insult the person that is acting in accordance with said philosophy is just you being, what's that phrase you used? "fence-sitting touchy-feely". To put it another way: If you're going to insult me, don't be a wuss about it. It's not "you". |
| #81boraxeApr 05, 2010 13:55:48 | Boraxe darling, there is nothing "inadvertent" about how you offend people. Key word underlined. To put it another way: If you're going to insult me, don't be a wuss about it. It's not "you". Trust me, mate, if I were going to insult you you'd know the difference, and you'd realize how silly it is thinking this was an insult. To paraphrase the words of Malcolm Reynolds "If I ever insult you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed." I speak plainly, nothing more. Some people don't like that, so if what I say offends someone then I'll offer an apology. If they choose not to accept that apology then that is their - and apparently in this case "your" - prerogative. Just so you know, I carry no grudge against you. Cheers. |
| #82EscherEnigmaApr 05, 2010 14:14:12 | Whatever helps you sleep at night, but don't expect me to play along. |
| #83boraxeApr 05, 2010 14:31:32 | Whatever helps you sleep at night, but don't expect me to play along. If you want to act all offended and elect to ascribe to malice what is clearly a simple misunderstanding then more power to you, mate, but as you say "don't expect me to play along". I don't agree with the path you've chosen, mate, but good luck with it. Cheers. |
