I have heard many many articles exhorting the same thing. The benefits go on and on. The husbands especially should print this out and use it as a bargaining chip for the next attempt.
Now just for me to actually get married...

Actually getting married doesn't reduce your sex life - it's having kids that does that. And since the second often follows fairly soon after the first...

Only married couple should have more sex?

What about unmarried couple? What about a pair of singles?

Well, they should also have lots of sex. It's just not as much of a problem as married people and sex.

But yeah, to clarify, my opinion isn't that non-married people should have less sex, just that married people should have more. If you're not married and are so inclined, have more sex too, it's good for you.

I know for a fact that if I hadn't meet and married my husband that I'd never ever marry. Sure there are other likable guys out there, but I'm not the type who desires having any personal relationship with anyone or had any desire to ever date.
I do not believe in fate, but for some odd reason I meet the male version of me and was really depressed about it for awhile. I was like, " what do I do now ?, GO AWAY !!"
Skip forward abit and not to brag, but I have an awesome marriage.
You'll know when you meet the right person, and when you do seize the opportunity.

As for married couples having more sex, it won't hurt the relationship, unless the husband (or wife) gets too demanding.

I married very young (19) and have been married for a few years now. I havn't changed one bit, expect that I see myself reaching for higher goals. Its really not about gaining experience because everyone you meet is different, a married couple gains experience with each other. .
Its men who deside if they'll marry, not women (unless they say no). As a woman, I couldn't help but feel alittle insecure if my man didn't want to marry me. Your lady may expect your decision, but if you were to deside to ask to marry her, she'd probably say yes. It feels good to think your man wants to marry you ;) .

I'm 25. I don't want to date an 18 year old fresh out of highschool. why? because she's most likely below my maturity level. she probably hasn't had the experiences needed to be in a relationship as my equal, and cannot make a healthy, lasting relationship with me, and I shouldn't expect her to. I want some one who has had past experiences needed to know which choices to avoid.

I have to agree with you. I'm 35 and wouldn't even consider dating under 30. It's not that there's any inherent maturity level. It's more that there is a shared history that once you pass a certain point is missing. I can remember a time before MTV, something a person born in 80s can't. I can remember when cable television was new and carried 7 channels or so, someone born in the 80s can't. In that shared history, alot of my views and opinions were formed and having to teach the history in order to make myself understood makes the generation gap widen to an uncomfortable level.

I also think the social contract of marriage is overrated. Any woman that chooses to accompany me through this roller-coaster of life will know through the differences in the way I treat her over the way I treat others that she is obviously dear to me. It should be plainly obvious to your other half, companion, lover, spouse et cetera that you don't treat others the same as them.

Sex is one of those ways. Have it, have it often. Enjoy the petite morte with the one closest to you. Have it to grow closer to them than any other person on the planet. Have it to procreate. Have it to feel relaxed. Have it to while away a sunny afternoon. Too many of our religions and cultures will tell you it's wrong. I say there is nothing more right in the universe. Sex promotes a healthy body as well as a healthy relationship. Healthy relationships are the building blocks of healthy cultures and communities.

I advocate love and sex, not marriage and sex. I would rather see an unmarried couple shagging themselves silly over seeing a married couple that really don't care for each other even kissing.

Especially when unmarried couple can shag other unmarried couples (and singles) without guilt. That and you can pick up and leave without having a divorce when you're tired of that partner.

Forever Love is a ridiculous oxymoron.

But yes Marryed couples should have sex, But they shouldnt be "Tought" differnt sex posistions by people and such.

*Trying not to respond... failing...*

Why do you think that you think you will need to be taught different sexual positions by other people? Is it alright if the couple just figures it out on their own? What sexual position(s) do you think couples don't need to be taught?

So no porn or anything? What about thinking dirty thoughts? *****es? How about manual or oral stimulation before penetration? Pegging? If you don't do anything before marriage are you at least going to talk about it so your future wife knows what she is or isn't getting into?

Besides, your first time is extremely likely to be awkward, short, and not all that great. Hers is likely to be extremely painful. Why would you want that combination as a memory for your wedding night?

Please do us all a favor and download firefox - it comes with a spellchecker.

Especially when unmarried couple can shag other unmarried couples (and singles) without guilt.

Why would there be guilt if a married couple shagged other married couples or a single if all involved are willing?

This is coming from a non religious point of view, because I got married before I became religious.
Love should come first before sex and if you truely connect, then marry. I hate seeing married people who don't love each other, they should have just stayed dating. Sex should be something you wish to share together and not something to worry about. Its not something to ponder and fret over. It should be the result of your love for each other.
Marrage is sacred, theres nothing more disgusting then adultery. I view it as bad as murder. Even if the married people do it willingly, their still defiling their marrage. People like that should never marry.

I think straight marriage should be abolished. Gay marriage should not only be allowed, it should be MANDATORY!

:P

I tried the monogamous thing. I found it an absolutely horrifying experience and never again will I ever put myself in a position where any one person has that kind of power over me.

But hey, if anyone else makes it work, I'm cool with that.

Because they'll regret it later.

I don't think that's a blanket statement that can really be made. Some (maybe even "most") would probably suffer from some feelings of guilt afterwords, but there's no way all of them will/do. There's no such thing as an accurate statement when applied to the entire human race.

This is personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt, but in most cases, Ranger Reg is almost right.

It's not that they will regret it, it's because most of the time, the fact that you are having sex outside marriage means there are serious issues within the marriage itself. Regret is just misplacing the fact that the marriage itself probably wasn't working.

And I reject notions that monogomy is "unnatural", because humans have had a huge variety of mating tendencies, ranging the entire spectrum. It is unfair to blame the abramaic religions in this case, because there are many other cultures that also practice monogamy. But that doesn't technically make monogamy the default either.

My point is that there IS no default. The christian ideal of monogamy is just as valid as the muslims believing that a man can have up to four wives, or the Spartans and their belief that married couples shouldn't live together at all, or the anglo-saxon belief that a couple was more valid if the men forcibly takes the woman from her fiancee during the wedding ceremony, and so forth.

All of them have "moral" beliefs for how they interact with each other, and it's very hard to quantify any morals that don't lead to self-destructive acts.

I just thought I'd throw in my worthless .

I grew up Catholic, which meant I was always taught to respect the sanctity of marriage. In addition, they believe pre-marital sex is a sin, which I'm sure everyone knew.

Here's how I feel: I personally am going to wait on sex until marriage. It's not because I can't get any, but I simply choose not to. For me, sex is something I hold in high regard. Not everyone will agree, obviously, and there's nothing with that. It's just how I feel. I guess I'm that way because that's how I grew up.

In the end, sex is a choice. There are trillions of worse things done out in the world. Is God (if you believe in him) going to condemn you because you got frisky with a girl at a kegger? No, I don't believe he will. Those of you who are in unmarried relationships: good for you. It's not my thing, but I admire that those people are in such good, stable relationships. Besides, you are well within your rights to do whatever the hell you want. If that's what you want to do, nothing should stop you. I don't think unmarried sex is THAT bad a thing. I just don't feel right about it, myself. If anyone else has no such problem, though, fine by me. It's your choice.

Cheating, on the other hand, that's another story. I hold people like that in the same regard I do most lawyers: scum.

Nothing is sacred.

Marrage is sacred, perhaps you've never felt what its like to know that someone loves everything about you and would do anything for you. Maybe you and other readers may think thats abit exaggerated, but out of personal experience, its true.
Real marrage is a complete unselfish love between a man and a woman. If you had a love like that you would never wish to be with anyone else. I say its sacred, no one could possibly hope to understand this connection that we share. I'm young still, and I know for a fact that if something happened to my husband, that I'd never remarry and wouldn't even look at another man. No other relationship compares to a real marrage.
My marrage is a symbol of a real marrage, its perfect and idealistic. It an example of what a marrage should be like and proof that the kind of marrages that you hear and read about do exist.
Perhaps if most marrages were like the one I have, people would be more possitive towards them.

Also I think that if your not a religious person that marrage isn't as important.
I wasn't religious when I married, but I wanted to share my life and love with the person whos so much like me.

I want to see what a doctorate in theology can do. (I'm not sure what would possess someone to DO that, but I'm going to assume that his reasons are valid enough. After all, no one gets a doctorate in ANYTHING without some damn good reasons.)

It mostly just hangs there on the wall.

I could spin some wild yarn about a crisis of faith pushing me to study it and all that garbage. But the real truth is that I was bored, had GI Bill money to blow and I didn't find what I was looking for in a history major, a tech theatre major or an english lit major. There was a brief moment I considered archaeology, but I'm just not that much into the digging.

I settled on Theology because my mother is Presbyterian, my father was American Baptist, my grandfather was an animist, my grandmother was a Baptist, her parent were methodist and baptist, one of my aunts is catholic, I have a couple muslim cousins......

.....needless to say, I didn't have a clue what the heck I was going to or supposed to believe. I figure it this way, my mother gets to say she has a son that's a doctor, my brother can tell me I'm wasting my life AND my education and I can understand a bit more of where people are coming from. Otherwise, it was a total waste of time.

On this topic, I tend to agree and disagree with everybody.

I believe sex is a natural aspect of human life. Natural, but not completly instinctual (has gained at birth). We must learn the content of our own sexual orientations and appetites when we come of age. I think that to be balanced, we must have many different sexual experiences to fully explore our own caracter.

When we really know ourselfs, we can choose the life style most suited for us. I chose monogamy because it fits the bill for me. Now, that brought me to consider marriage. Since I am not a religious man, it was not "inherently" sacred*. But, I found that it was for me a rite of passage, a symbol that showed the evolution of our relationship to a deeper commitment. It was also a ceremony that allowed both families to integrate into one entity.

Being married now for a few months (we have been living together for 7 years, and dating for 8) I have seen that it didn't change our day to day life. But, it did change the way we see our relationship, it feels more solid and mature.

I tried the monogamous thing. I found it an absolutely horrifying experience and never again will I ever put myself in a position where any one person has that kind of power over me.

I don't really understand this statement. Monogamy is a choice, nobody holds power over you. I don't consider myself as having power over my wife or vice-versa. All relationships should be built on trust, respect and equality. So I don't think the problem came from monogamy. But, I may be wrong, I know it is not for everybody. The important thing, is to know who you are and being happy. The rest are details (annoying details sometimes, but only details).

* There is no autority that garantees that certain things are sacred (remember, that is my opinion, nothing more). As such, there is only the importance WE give to things. So each person can hold as sacred things that are of capital importance in there lives.

But, it did change the way we see our relationship, it feels more solid and mature.

I've been down this road before and it didn't do a thing for the relationship. I feel more secure when I know she doesn't have to stay but chooses to. I'm faithful to a fault, but other people aren't. My significant others can stay or go at their choice and if they choose to stay, than it's because they want to stay. Someday I might sign the contract again, but if she's compatible with me, she'll probably never want to marry.

She says I'm a glutton for punishment for wanting to have her around. She wants to be around because she's never seen anyone that says what they think. Or treats all people especially children, like everything they say matters. Or even understands that all people have flaws and that's what makes each of us special. There was a question of my sanity at one point, but I think she understands that I actually believe that the rules of hospitality and generosity are important. She'll take what she wants from the relationship and if she chooses to leave, I'm better for knowing her as long as I have.

Yeah, well none of us were born in the hippy era either.

In fact, most people born into the hippy era were never hippies, because by the time they got old enough, the hippy era was over. :P

Unless of course you are asserting that anyone who disagrees with you is a dirty, pot-smoking layabout. Then I have issues with your outlook.

Speak for yourself count.

I qualify for the born in but not fully experienced category. Being born in 1961 I wound up out of High School around the end of the age of Disco. The Hippie era is generally considered around 1960 – 1973, so anyone born before 1955 would have experienced the tail end of that era. I had a good friend, former coworker and gamer who still is happily married and their one daughter is currently in college.

"Is nothing sacred?" ie)reserved for special treatment and/or etiquette.

Figure of speech, turn of phrase, whatever. So what? Derailment. Moving on. Everyone's marriage is "sacred" to a degree. It's a personal thing between 2, not those 2 and everyone else. Best not to screw w/ it.

And marriage is intrinsically sacred according to most cultures and religions. Not for everyone, but for the majority, yes. Hard to argue w/ millenia of human history.

Honestly, when you consider the fact that people thought the sun revolved around the earth and that dragons (amongst other things) roamed the earth, it's pretty easy to argue with the viewpoints developed during those "millenia of human history."

"Sacred" is a purely subjective thing. What's sacred to some isn't at all to others. In the end, you won't be able to find a single thing in this reality that is sacred to all thinking beings, meaning that objectively, nothing is completely sacred.

OK, so, we've thouroughly explored the christian aspect of this nonsense. how about the Muslim aspect? In islam, provided a man can afford the dowry, and spends his attention and money equally among them, he can have up to four (FOUR) wives.

why is this not allowed in the US? it's a religious practice after all, and as far as the God of Mohamed is concerned, each of the four marriages is just as sacred as a christian who marries his highschool sweetheart. (in fact, Islam is even stricter about no sex before marriage) why, then, don't we permit that sort of marriage? I know I couldn't handle four wives, or even four girlfriends, but hey, I'm not a Muslim.

I'd like to point out that they are not alone in their belief that 1 male + 1 Female is not the only configuration that a marriage can consist of.

there are numerous tribes in Africa, South America (the continent, not the bible belt), and parts of Asia who practice polygamy of some sort or another.

now, we're Americans, or at least I am, and I'm pretty sure most of the rest of the posters in this thread are. We live under a constitution that touts religious freedom. after all, the American dream of freedom says that you don't get persecuted for your religion.

why then, are people persecuted for just this sort of religious practice? like Chewbacca living on Endor, it does not make sense.

crap. we're further off topic, and I just brought poly ticks into this.

It's because that in America, marriage is primarily a legal and financial situation. Not only does it affect taxation, but there's issues of inheritance, of next of kin, and many others that I can't be arsed to look up right now.

Having more than one legal wife turns all that into an indecipherable clusterkumquat.

Now, you can marry as many people as you want in a spiritual sense. A muslim can me married in the eyes of Islam to up to four women, same for certain sects of Mormonism. I used to know a guy that was in a polyamorous relationship with (if I recall correctly) 6 people involved.

That's fine, the law doesn't care if you do that, just as long as you're not legally married to more than one person.

see, that kind of polyamorous relationship is what's being argued against by several posters in this thread. which was my point to begin with.

you say that like a lot of baggage, and std's are a good thing...

You could go outside and get hit by a car today and die. There is risk in everything we do. Sex is no exception, but if it is done responsibly, the risk of STD can be reduced profoundly. By any reasonable measure, the benefits far outweigh the small risks. One should have sex as often, and with as many different people, as possible. You only live once, and sex, being almost certainly the most fulfilling of all the pleasures, should be experienced as fully as possible. Only having just one person it would get old.

You almost had me until that last bit. Sorry mate, but that's a crock. Just because you're shagging your brains out with different people all the time doesn't make it better, just different.

If I know what turns on the person I'm with, it doesn't get old, it gets easier. When I'm feeling like a spot of fun, I know exactly what to do to get her engine running and I'm not the slightest bit embarassed to say that I abuse the living daylights out of that knowledge. That familiarity enhances the comfort level and that means you can focus on enjoying what you're doing.

BAH ! Not true ! I've been with my husband for years, and it does not get old. The mire thought of bedding another man, is ..GROSS ! I don't care if its Johnny Depp, HELL NO ! If for any reason I was not going to be with my husband anymore, I'd go back to my original plan of a life long chastity.

Why bed someone who was very irresponsible in their past and might have an STD, that should be a good reason to stay the hell away.

I've heard many single men say the same thing.

I have a feeling that feeling of grossness varies by individual. Especially considering the reported rates of infidelity in this country. And that doesn't even include couples that intentionally bring additional people into the bedroom.

What about bringing another woman into the bedroom? Would that also be gross?

As to the last part, that is why you only have sex with responsible people.

Screw lots of people? Well, the machine told me so sweetie, it's not like I had a choice. And they say D&D makes people do other morally reprehensible acts like devil worship...

TheGrandmaster1, I was going to say you were totally hedonistic, but, eh...I see where you're going and I'd be a hypocrit considering this time of life known as college and my 20's for the most part. Darwin would've been proud. But my folks would've been ashamed.

Seriously, I know my 'y' chromosome says, "Yeah, she's a supervixen, have at it boy", but this funny thing about civilization and all I keep hearing about... Spread your seed as much as you can as fast as you can. It's just like Wild Kingdom except we have bars...;)

Rizzen, you're a faithful wife and that's totally refreshing in a sea of sluts. Respect. But, how long have you been married/how old are you? When did you wed? Your committment is a rarified quality, especially these days, but you might be coming from a different place, most notably age and tenure of marriage.

Goblin, you like gladiator movies?

Just to let you know I am very weird. I bring a whole new meaning of "hard to get". For me to be remotely interested in a man, he has to connect mentally with me. Which is almost impossible do to my odd state of mind and point of views. My mind is busy thinking other things and not pondering about screwing around with someone.
I'm one of those rare people who'd be perfectly happy living alone. But I found someone who actually connects with me and is almost exactly like me. He holds all of my attention and I'm very lucky. He's also very cirmetrical too :P .

As for bring a woman into our bedroom... I'll just say I have nothing positive to say about that. Hehe no offense, but that kind of sounded like a proposal :P .

Agreed, you should only have sex with someone responsible.

I'm 22, been married for 3 years last month. I dated my husband 2 1/2 years prior. So basically I've been with my husband for 5 1/2 years and he was also a close friend of mine a year prior to that even.

Not so much, no. I prefer samurai movies. Or were you trying to suggest something about the spring in my step or the lack of gravity in my docksiders? Because if you were suggesting that I am gay, please tell my wife, I'd love for her to try to convert me again*.

*Funny story. I was out with a bunch of my friends that are gay and I tend to be a bit more extroverted than them. Along comes a woman that one of my friends knows and starts flirting with me. I played it cool, I played along the whole time. So she gets me outside to her car and tryed to show me what I was missing. We go back inside, she's all proud because she "converted" one of us. And that's when my friends started giving her a ration for for converting a "flaming straight". Never assume anything, it gets you in trouble.

Only having just one person it would get old.

Not so. If the only pleasure one derives from sex is that it is with a new and different person I believe one is missing an essential element of the equation. I am not suggesting monogamy is the only acceptable option, just decrying the absurd claim that it is an unacceptable one.

I sowed many a wild oat before I met my wife - everything from relationships to one-night-stands to friends-with-benefits and all combinations between. I have a fairly broad experience of both licentiousness and monogamy (I've been with my wife for 17 years, married for 7 of that) and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that if you think monogamy invariably leads to sex "getting old" you are totally and completely wrong.

Sorry not a proposal :P You already said having a man besides your husband in the bedroom would be gross and I wouldn't do that without mine.

I was just curious because you specified it would be gross with a man other than your husband in the bedroom with you guys. I wasn't sure if that was in response to a specific comment the specified a man or if you were singling out only men would be gross, not women.

I also strongly agree that sex with one person does not have to get old. I could see, theoretically, if you did the exact same thing every time it could. But I can vouch that sex with one person does not automatically get old.

Wasn't the case when I got married. It dropped from once every couple of weeks to about once every couple months.

Then again, I haven't had sex in about two years at this point, so perhaps it was more often. :P

Not worth it though.

But hey, if I can help other married couples have more sex, that should count as positive karma.

Dharma. Karma is what you have at the beginning, Dharma is what you do with it. Dharma becomes the Karma of your next go-round.
