I figured since our talk of rugby, Crappy Australian soaps and weather girls who play rugby can be hot or not wasn't welcome in the general discussion we could keep it going here.

Some of the girls who played rugby at my high school were hot. The rest were.... not.... but there were definitely a few who I enjoyed watching in the scrum.

Cool. I've also dated girls from Ireland and Australia, no Canuks, though.

A good chunk of my international experience is via skirt chasing. I'm not sure how that reflects on me as a person. ;)

Well, if I knew where you were from I could insult it for you. I am an American; gotta keep up appearances, right? ;)

Eh, I disliked Rugby ever since my first coach for it kicked me in the throat. It was an accident, but I was 11, so it balanes out. And about a week later, I watched someone get his collar bone broken in a rugby game and I was like "Ok! NO!"

Call me a p***y all you want :P.

Yeah, we get a similar message around here. My skirt chasing got me in some hot water back in the day (I'm talking international incident, homeland security detail hot water), but I wouldn't take any of it back. ;)

I was also the nerdiest guy on my football team (Nose Tackle/Center). Luckily, when I got to college I found a bunch of other guys who were that way, so I had people to hang with.

I have met a few guys that play american football into RPG's, never met a rugby player face to face that plays rpg's though.. then again most rugby guys here in australia are about as intelligent and witty as my size 13 boot...

I got a 430lbs (yes.. 430lbs thats not a typo) nose tackle that plays in my group.. dice look ridiculously small in his hands lol

Yeah, I'm nowhere near that size. In my prime I was about 250. I'm a big guy, but it was more about strategy, aggression and leverage for me than sheer power. 430, wow. That's awesome. Did he take up one whole side of the table?

Pretty much.. he even uses those giant sized dice and they look small lol... Lately we have taken to using two tables to accommodate everyone

Yea i am about 260lbs a playing weight.. but being a linebacker most of the time it is all aggro, but i got a few nice moves form a bout 6 years of Tae Kwon Do.. (we usually play in a 3-4 d.. when we stiwch to a 4-3 i move to the 3 technique tackle)

I'm a Canadian rugby guy, though I haven't played since high school (stupid engineering taking up all my time). In grade 12 the best math students in the school were asked to write a high level math test (It was for some competition; if you scored high enough you got something out of it...can't remember what anymore) and 5 of the 8 people who wrote the test were rugby players, myself included. We all thought that was pretty funny, since the rest of the rugby players in my school were about as intelligent as my size 15 boot (take THAT!)

That's awesome. Does he usually play bruisers, or does he let his inner halfling out for games? ;)

We played a 5-3 most of the time, with me either on the center's shoulder or in a hole. When we switched to 4-4 (our league was smash-mouth, ground-based offense mostly) I would actually move to D-end.

I studied some Tae Kwon Do while I was in high school, but I didn't get heavy into the martial arts until I was in college. It kind of feels like a missed opportunity, because my footwork and just general quickness and power improved more over two years of Karate (with Tae Kwon Do, Juijutsu and Kendo mixed in) than it did over 4 years of 3 hour a day work outs in high school.

Yea, Tae Kwon Do has done a lot for my hand and arm work for getting off blocks.. swims, rips etc.. all seem to come much easier to me than most of the other guys on the D.. i kind of put that down to martial arts.

Hey outlaw. I was wondering if anyone would recreate the yank-free thread. So I'll crack open a Castlemain XXXX and relax.

Well, I am Canadian born and raised (currently live in Toronto). But, I never really got into rugby, and I am only 190 lbs. Back in the day I busted a few heads open in street fights with a boat chain as thick as my wrist and as long as my leg though... (I'm 6'5... so my leg is long). Does that qualify me for this thread?

Not a topic I expected to find on this forum!
I played rugby at the collegiate level then some mens club and coaching. Been involved with the sport for 19 years now. Looking forward to the USA vs. Clermont match tomorrow night. I know before anyone jumps on me, there is absolutely NO rugby on TV, so anything is a big deal.
While everyone is throwing out stats-
6ft+250lbs=a career of playing loosehead and tighthead prop!:D

I used to play for an all-gay team untill about 6 years ago, when i broke my ankle (nothing to do with rugby, I fell down a 60 step flight of stairs on my way to work). At the time I was 5'11" and 250lbs, and so generally played as a hooker, ocasionally as a prop. by the time it healed, i'd moved to another city, and never really got back into playing

now, i'm still 5'11", but only 150lbs. I'd be stuck on the back row, and wouldn't know where to put myself!

I feel the need to represent SA here, and gloat for a second about our acquisition of the World Cup.

I believe the correct phrase is "neener neener neener" :P

South Africa can suck my balls. We were better than you in the final, we were robbed by the referee.

...Again!

Though the word "slave" is related to "Slavic", which is basically related with my country ancestors :P

Oh yeah, and at the soccer EuroCup a British referee robbed us of our victory against Austria! In the freaking 92nd minute!

We will see how they go in the Bledisloe.. NZ might not be what they once where.. but that Kiwi Coach (Robby Deans) has the Australian's playing some pretty decent rugby this year (except for that mess last weekend... )

Personally I do hope to see good things from them. The sport is at its best when everyone is top notch.

In other news, I heard recently that Matt Damon is set to star in a movie about our cup victory in 95. Not sure if its just a rumour, but I hope its true. I can't think of any international class movies about the sport. We've made some crappy local rugby films here, but they're nothing to brag about (the last one I can think of is downright abysmal). Having a decent rugby movie would be a nice change from just seeing the same sports over and over again.
