| #1fridaAug 30, 2009 18:18:21 | I just wanted to say Yay! for personal avatars. I drew one today to celebrate. Its just me and my dog. So have you waited for this, dreading the day or couldnt care less? |
| #2owls_and_more_owlsAug 30, 2009 18:22:06 | While I like how you can choose any avatar you want, I grew rather attached to my old one, so I tracked it down and personalized it only by adding my psudonym to the corner. |
| #3dirtyfrankAug 30, 2009 18:26:09 | I thought it would be cool if we could have our own avatars but figured it would never happen. Now they wanted us to have avatars so I first just uploaded a picture of Richard's eye from the webcomic LFG. I then changed that after a few hrs to a picture of Sir Schmoopy of Awesometon from the webcartoon Unforgotten Realms. Now after I was able to get a few pics up I started trying out the different pics and finally decided to settle on this lass that is squatting while looking out of this skeleton while it is still halfway in the ground. I'm liking how it looks as an avatar which is cool cuz I really like the pic. I'm now really liking this use your own avatar thing. I'm glad they made it a new feature. |
| #4pigknightAug 30, 2009 18:27:36 | I haz the bestest avatar eber! |
| #5ellorinAug 30, 2009 18:31:11 | I certainly welcome the option of a personal avatar.
I wouldn't know about best but I really like it . |
| #6fridaAug 30, 2009 18:36:21 | You used to recognice frequent posters instantly by their avatars, I guess that I don't have to adjust to a new one for you Owls.
Well it is pretty cool but it cant beat a pooping poodle me thinks. |
| #7tsuyoshikentsuAug 30, 2009 18:39:21 |
Aye. That's why I'm keeping to the same symbol, but a different version of it. |
| #8dirtyfrankAug 30, 2009 18:59:11 | Should I make this my personal avatar? |
| #9surbrusAug 30, 2009 19:05:53 | I was a little surprised to see the lack of built in avatars when logging into the new forum. Going from a selection of like 1000 to so few. At first I picked the avatar I first picked on the old forum, Ajani Vengent. I figured that with such a small selection their would be so many other people with the same avatar... unlike the old site. Like I guessed, I have seen the series of Ajani avatars all over the new forum.
So, searched the Goggle and random pictures I had and found a good one. The origin of my nickname/screenname/gamertag/bnetaccount whatever you want to call it. Kind of makes me want to change any/all of my other forum avatars to this one.
I did origninally find the lack of ready to go avatars annoying and disappointin, but now I like it :P |
| #10owls_and_more_owlsAug 30, 2009 19:06:05 | You can't use Gif's for an avatar. I think the only supported format is jpeg. |
| #11dirtyfrankAug 30, 2009 19:13:48 | You can't use Gif's for an avatar. I think the only supported format is jpeg. yeah about that. I think the only time I saw something like that mentioned is when I was doing all the necessary stuff to my profile when I logged in. I however can't find anywhere where it says what kind of files you can upload and what kind you can use for an avatar. I did just now try putting the gif as my avatar and I got like an error type response or something. I wish it would have like a little note of what file types were accepted. |
| #12EscherEnigmaAug 30, 2009 19:31:45 | I liked my old avatar... it was almost a status symbol, that I had been around so long that I had an avatar that you could no longer select. Didn't really worry about a personalized avatar. With the option, though... well, now all my forum and art accounts (Y!, FA, DA, and half a dozen different forums throughout the web) have the same avatar (though some have a different cropping of it) which is a crop of a picture I made. So now it's really my own. And if I ever see someone with it first I'll feel happy that they liked it enough to steal it and then I'll yell at them for stealing it. |
| #13Nai_CalusAug 30, 2009 23:40:08 | I have the most awesome avatar on the boards. Truth. (Currently it's Vartan Hai Sylvar from the old Forgotten Realms comic they did back in '89-'90.) Oddly I can't seem to find the list of pre-made avatars anymore. I wasn't using them anyway, sure, but still weird. |
| #14Ragnar_LodbrokAug 30, 2009 23:46:12 | Hmm... Maybe I'll draw up an OotS-style avatar on Inkscape. |
| #15KillerGMAug 30, 2009 23:48:25 | I like it. I don't confuse people with the same AV. Though I really liked my creepy old one. I may have to look for it, though all I know is that it came from hetacomb, which is now defunct ... |
| #16dirtyfrankAug 31, 2009 0:13:35 |
|
| #17owls_and_more_owlsAug 31, 2009 0:17:01 | Ah, the classic. |
| #18ADHadhAug 31, 2009 4:40:45 | Just checking if mine is not stretched... |
| #19idhrinielAug 31, 2009 5:41:04 |
the site supports .GIF and .JPG files and i think the person most recognizable on these forums at this point has to be PK...a pig in a suit of armor, you cant beat with a stick...unless you put a tree in a suit of armor ;) |
| #20kraikAug 31, 2009 5:45:05 | I like it but i'm still debating on drawing my own avatar and then uploading that but i'm not sure and i have to actually read the names of people now before i read their posts because i don't recognise peoples avatars anymore either, guess i'll get used to them though :S -Kraik |
| #21cherubaddonAug 31, 2009 6:04:31 | While I like the idea, I have had mine since I joined some three years ago or so, and I don't want to change it. Fortunately, and don't ask me why, I had it saved on my computer... I didn't even recall what it was named. |
| #22The-Mage-KingAug 31, 2009 8:26:17 | Meh, I liked my old one a bit better than this. Maybe I can hunt down a picture of a major video game villain, complete in the traditional pose for him...
EDIT: Found one. |
| #23Cpt_MichaAug 31, 2009 8:34:29 |
No mine's the best. Because mine is really me :d
I do like my old one still though. |
| #24zombie_babiesAug 31, 2009 9:46:54 | I don't like relearning everybody's avatar but that'll sort itself out eventually. I really didn't like being forced to choose one, either. Now that I have binge drinkin' OTTo as my avatar, though, I feel ever so slightly better about it. |
| #25d11Aug 31, 2009 9:55:04 | I knew making a dragon sprite in Photoshop would be a good thing one day! |
| #26Cpt_MichaAug 31, 2009 9:58:58 |
That's an awesome avatar ZB. |
| #27zombie_babiesAug 31, 2009 11:41:11 | I only wish I was the one that made it. Or found it in the first place. |
| #28joni-sanAug 31, 2009 15:37:55 | I thought what I'd do was, I'd do the impossible and kick reason to the curb. |
| #29owls_and_more_owlsAug 31, 2009 15:49:58 |
And after that, you can touch the untouchable and break the unbreakable. |
| #30dirtyfrankAug 31, 2009 16:20:24 | I thought what I'd do was, I'd do the impossible and kick reason to the curb. Is that what I think it is? Did you touch up the laughing man logo thing? |
| #31AvonRekaesAug 31, 2009 16:47:16 | Made it better, I'd say. (He can also See the Invisible.) |
| #32toastedamphibianAug 31, 2009 16:56:47 |
Hmmph. |
| #33dirtyfrankAug 31, 2009 16:58:24 | But your amphibian isn't toasted |
| #34ellorinAug 31, 2009 17:02:53 | If I may, how did you become toasted anyway? |
| #35toastedamphibianAug 31, 2009 17:12:36 |
Is better now? |
| #36EscherEnigmaAug 31, 2009 17:14:11 | I dunno... sure there's fire in the background implying that he will be toasted, but he still looks just dandy as is, so he isn't toasted yet. |
| #37toastedamphibianAug 31, 2009 17:17:58 | But I am just dandy. And toasty. |
| #38dirtyfrankAug 31, 2009 17:20:51 | The pic seems to imply toastingamphibian where as your name is toastedamphibian which implies that you have already gone through the process of being toasted. |
| #39KillerGMAug 31, 2009 17:20:54 |
That is totally what I get from your AV now. The toad looks like he's smiling. ![]() |
| #40toastedamphibianAug 31, 2009 17:22:11 |
'cause I am smiling. [Kind of smuggly, even.] |
| #41EscherEnigmaAug 31, 2009 17:53:24 | But are you dandy as candy, and quicker then liquor? ... Wait a second, why does that sound familiar and where did it come from... ... ah! That's right, a rhyme about how to woo a woman into your bed: "Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker." ... anyway. |
| #42pigknightAug 31, 2009 18:01:16 |
Also Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. |
| #43toastedamphibianAug 31, 2009 18:19:10 | *insert joke about dandies, candy, boozes, and young children*
Oh Willy, your such a creepy pervert. |
| #44owls_and_more_owlsAug 31, 2009 18:27:26 | I think Jonny Depp ruined that character. Now whenever you think of Willy Wonka, you think of some creepy douche-bag who invites children into his extremely dangerous factory. **** you Jonny Depp. You are not a good actor. |
| #45EscherEnigmaAug 31, 2009 18:32:00 | Um... the first Willy Wonka was also an extremely creepy fellow that invited children into his extremely dangerous factory. That was just being faithful to the source material there. |
| #46toastedamphibianAug 31, 2009 18:33:24 |
+1
Willy Wonka, sending kids the wrong message about candy wielding strangers for decades. |
| #47owls_and_more_owlsAug 31, 2009 19:21:17 | Yes but Gene Wilder had an endearing quality about him that Depp did not have. It's all a matter of opinion, but I whole heartedly believe that Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory is better than Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. A lot of childhood memories with that one. |
| #48ForgemberSep 01, 2009 1:28:37 |
I agree, the old one is the better of the two, personally I don't think Depp was creepy enough. As for the thread topic, I love it. Its MY avatar, MINE! |
| #49awesome_dudeSep 01, 2009 5:57:49 | I think I'll get original some other time. Until then it's Awesome-Face. |
| #50d11Sep 01, 2009 8:06:16 | +1 Awesome_Dude Also I have Photoshopped myself a more appropriate avatar. |
| #51zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 8:29:09 | Nicely done, boj0. Depp is a great actor. I would never see that kiddy movie he made, but he's done some amazing stuff. Srsly. Stuff like Dead Man, Blow, Donnie Brasco, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (can't wait for The Rum Diary!) etc, etc, etc ... he's really good. Not to take anything away from Wilder. Than man had some serious acting chops, too. |
| #52awesome_dudeSep 01, 2009 10:15:19 |
It looks plenty toasted to me. |
| #53Ragnar_LodbrokSep 01, 2009 11:57:36 | So, I've finished the avatars I'm considering. |
| #54zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 12:02:06 | Whoa. They totally screwed up the avatars. Mine is just a part of what it was before. Holy crap. Why were they even messing with the avatars anyway? It was one of the few things that actually worked right! EDIT: Immediately after posting this, my avatar looked right again. What the hell are they doing? |
| #55baneofelvesSep 01, 2009 12:51:17 | Your mom. |
| #56EscherEnigmaSep 01, 2009 13:24:39 | Ah, Baney-Boy, still bearing your banner as the bastion of maturity and respect for all things living, eh? |
| #57baneofelvesSep 01, 2009 13:26:29 | Yeah, how could you tell? |
| #58EscherEnigmaSep 01, 2009 13:52:53 | Well, for one thing, you objectified someone's mom. They asked "what the hell are they doing?" and you responded "your mom", thus implying that she is a "what" and not a "who." How could you do such a thing, Baney-Boy? How? How could you be so mean, so cruel? ... in case you missed it, this is the part where you say "Good... bad... I'm the guy with the gun." |
| #59zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 13:54:37 | Nobody had better've given that psycho elfhumper a gun ... |
| #60ForgemberSep 01, 2009 14:06:00 | How do I add a sig? |
| #61zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 14:17:38 |
On a forum page, at the top, you'll see a highlighted 'Preferences'. Clicky it and you'll see the siggy box. It also allows you to set some stuff like amount of posts per page an' junk. |
| #62ForgemberSep 01, 2009 14:28:15 | Thanks much. |
| #63zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 14:29:19 | NP. Took me a bit to locate it mehself. |
| #64EscherEnigmaSep 01, 2009 14:38:22 | All the avatars just went funny on my screen... like they set a fixed size for avatars but instead of scaling up or down to them they just did a cropping of yoru avatar to fit. Edit: And now it's back again... |
| #65zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 14:40:03 |
Yeah, I posted similar trouble in this thread someplace, IIRC. It's been off and on for me, too. |
| #661_ton_ghostSep 01, 2009 15:03:18 |
Ah, the Onion (source material). Kinda' miss my old one cuz' it was rare(r) I suppose. And yes, it was quicker to zero you guys per your images than handles.
Personalized avatars, demi-gods, and aspects are nice, but I'd kill for the "Find all Post by 'X'" button. I'm sure there's a million bells and whistles I'm just not finding now. Sigs included though I must confess, the pages are shorter, do I really need more fluff/filler no one cares about before upping to a new page (a lot more frequently now). Advice, recommendations, recipes, blueprints? |
| #67zombie_babiesSep 01, 2009 15:08:55 | You can set how many posts per page you see and whether or not sigs are displayed (as well as adding a sig for yourself) under the 'Preferences' linky at the top of a forum page. |
| #68toastedamphibianSep 01, 2009 15:16:06 | My avatar has always been cropped, so I havn't noticed any diffrence. Damn cropping bastards, made me chop off a foot so that the whole head would be in the shot. |
| #69idhrinielSep 01, 2009 15:21:59 | rawr. fear me. i am the evil...no, that just doesnt work for me. Avatar, yes. Me, no. |
| #70EscherEnigmaSep 01, 2009 16:10:22 | It occurs to me that once things settle down a bit, probably one of the more frequent posts in the Community Art forum is probably going to be "Hey, someone draw me a custom avatar, ok? k thnx bai." |
| #71baneofelvesSep 01, 2009 17:52:50 |
"Good... Bad... I'm the guy with the gun." I'm worse IRL. I'm censored here. You think this is mean and cruel? Hah! This is nothing. |
| #72EscherEnigmaSep 01, 2009 18:09:18 | Ha! Caught the glitch on print screen! See what I mean about it doing a weird crop of the avatar pic? |
| #73toastedamphibianSep 01, 2009 18:19:02 | Here is what the avatars always look like to me:
|
| #74owls_and_more_owlsSep 01, 2009 18:22:43 | Yeah I need to re-crop my avatar so that the S on Owls doesn't clip the edge. It doens't do that on my MTGS account. |
| #75toastedamphibianSep 01, 2009 18:32:18 | I jsut saw the re-cropped avatars too, in a group forum page. They went back to 'normal' as soon as I left. Strange. |
| #76EscherEnigmaSep 01, 2009 18:37:34 | Yeah, normally I see them right (like in TA's post), but I've had it show that weird cropping a few times now. Weird. |
| #77owls_and_more_owlsSep 01, 2009 18:46:02 | Yeah the same thing happened to me for like a split second. |
| #78toastedamphibianSep 01, 2009 19:03:17 | **** you Jonny Depp. You are not a good actor. You'r just jealous 'cause he's prettier than you. |
| #79owls_and_more_owlsSep 01, 2009 19:30:20 | **** you Jonny Depp. You are not a good actor. cry cry cry |
| #80Nai_CalusSep 02, 2009 0:50:16 | Pah, my avatar is prettier than Johnny Depp. |
| #81joni-sanSep 02, 2009 1:52:53 | Your avatar is an elf. Your argument is invalid. |
| #82The-Mage-KingSep 02, 2009 8:43:18 | Aye. Elves are a huge lot of bishonen. *Pause. Looks at avatar* You know what I mean. Say, how'd you get that 'Shoots first, votes later' thing under you name? |
| #83joni-sanSep 02, 2009 12:07:37 | April 1'st Event. Being Awesome. |
| #84The-Mage-KingSep 02, 2009 12:09:30 | Ah. |
| #85idhrinielSep 02, 2009 17:31:02 | Johnny Depp = epitome of hawt unless compared with Orlando Bloom. Then they're tied. |
| #86EscherEnigmaSep 02, 2009 21:34:01 | ... so you like the "pretty" boys then, eh? |
| #87pigknightSep 02, 2009 21:35:55 |
I guess you can call be a pretty boy, and I love me a chick flick. |
| #88Nai_CalusSep 02, 2009 23:04:09 | Mmm, Orlando Bloom. Especially as an elf. Pic related:

|
| #92zombie_babiesSep 03, 2009 8:55:51 | Yay! Go Irrelephant! Crush arguments, hopes and dreams! |
| #93bo0kw0rmSep 03, 2009 9:34:04 | Ever notice how you form ideas in your head of how people look in RL based on their posts and avatars.
Except for you PK, it seems just when I think I understand you, you throw something completely random out there and just blow me away |
| #94zombie_babiesSep 03, 2009 9:37:40 |
I actually don't do that too much. Luckily we've had a few threads where people posted actual pics of themselves so we're able to know what some of us look like. Yep. |
| #95Cpt_MichaSep 03, 2009 9:40:48 | Which is why when possible I use an actual picture of me for an Avatar. So there's no confusion in anyone's head. |
| #96dirtyfrankSep 03, 2009 9:45:55 | OMG it's Jeff Gordon |
| #97zombie_babiesSep 03, 2009 9:48:19 |
I'm goofy about that stuff. There's pics of me around here (that I'm sure someone will dig up shortly), but I don't like to post 'em. If it wasn't for a drunken idea I had at a bachelor party, no pics of me would be posted here at all. ![]() I don't do social networking, either. No My Space, Facebook or Twitter for me. I don't email many people and I don't IM. That's why I wasn't so sure about this new site. The good thing is I don't have to do anything I don't want to. That stuff just ain't my bag. I mean, I'm the kind of person that - were I to join one of those sites - would create a fake persona just to **** with people. Lucky thing that I'm also too lazy to do that sort of thing, I guess. I want to be as off the grid as possible. Kind of odd considering how huge my mouth is ... |
| #98Cpt_MichaSep 03, 2009 9:57:11 |
You bastard lol. Well at least it's left in whatever thread graveyard you found it in.
|
| #99dirtyfrankSep 03, 2009 10:01:25 | I'm goofy about that stuff. There's pics of me around here (that I'm sure someone will dig up shortly), but I don't like to post 'em. I almost never send out emails so a few months back I got something from yahoo saying that I needed to respond to their message or else they'd assume my account was inactive and close it. I'm on my email everyday. I just almost never send out emails. |
| #100bo0kw0rmSep 03, 2009 10:05:03 | -Ducks and covers, waiting for PK to jump in here and say something witty to me- |
| #101zombie_babiesSep 03, 2009 10:09:58 |
I'm just not too motivated to put anything in that stuff. Here is a li'l better, though, cuz it's more of a networking place for internet personas that people got to know - if that makes any sense. I almost never send out emails so a few months back I got something from yahoo saying that I needed to respond to their message or else they'd assume my account was inactive and close it. I'm on my email everyday. I just almost never send out emails. My main email gets activity every day. I don't usually send anything out, though. Occasionally my fiancee will send me something from work, but that's about it.
I think you'll be waiting a very long time. |
| #102EscherEnigmaSep 03, 2009 11:12:20 | -Ducks and covers, waiting for PK to jump in here and say something witty to me- I shouldn't laugh I shouldn't laugh I shouldn't laugh I shouldn't laugh... |

And they hate you. |
| #105zombie_babiesSep 03, 2009 16:04:25 |
Why should I care? They suck and are lame. Lame-o to the max, even. Somebody needs to join the OTTer group. As it stands, I'm the only member on page 2 of the member list. I is lonely. EDIT: Whoops! I meant I r lonely. My bad. |
| #106pigknightSep 03, 2009 17:05:07 | Flavor Flav! |

| #110EscherEnigmaSep 03, 2009 22:30:24 | ... you lot are weird. |
| #111zombie_babiesSep 04, 2009 8:57:55 | Nuh uh. |
| #112awesome_dudeSep 04, 2009 9:44:50 | I wil have the best avatar ever when I kick my ass into gear and make one for myself. |
| #113The-Mage-KingSep 04, 2009 10:18:53 | I just made one for myself. |
| #114Ragnar_LodbrokSep 04, 2009 22:59:26 | I think I'll change my avatar to a Warhammer orc. |
| #115fridaSep 05, 2009 5:46:57 |
Actually, I think that your avatar goes really well with your nickname. |
| #116idhrinielSep 05, 2009 5:59:33 | id make my own avvie, but i suck at drawing people. so ill stick with dragons, thanks. and nice avatar, hater. very nice. it struck me blind (if you know what i mean) |
| #117fridaSep 06, 2009 16:00:37 | I'm thinking about changing my avatar to this. Its a beeholder. Just an exampel of my lame sense of humor. What do you think? But maybe you cant see the bees when its really small. |
| #118dirtyfrankSep 06, 2009 20:13:01 | looks kind of neat. you might be right though about not being able to see the bees. |
| #119fenrir7139Sep 06, 2009 22:50:23 | W00T! My avvy has my name on it, OVER my D&D character's portrait! Yay! |
| #120owls_and_more_owlsSep 06, 2009 22:51:25 |
You are completely represented in your avatar. Neat. |
| #121fenrir7139Sep 06, 2009 22:58:20 | I know, right? |
| #122Mad_JackSep 07, 2009 2:18:39 | The lack of custom avatars on the old forums was the main reason I didn't have one before, since this is the only one I ever use anywhere... It was slightly annoying to have to crop it a bit, though... I took that pic, though, so it's all sorts of cool - that's the hat I actually wear all the time, and the cast-resin skull was a b-day present from my brother.
(And have I mentioned just how much the new smileys suck giant dire moose balls?) |
| #123idhrinielSep 07, 2009 5:41:46 | you have now. lol we have a GIANT wasp nest in the tree in our front yard...i gotta walk by that thing every morning to go to school. the nest is probably between the size of a basketball and a football. so can i borrow that beeholder? thanks. |
| #124bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 7:58:57 | You have tempted me to make my own avatar, iwth my photoshop-fu!
|
| #125ellorinSep 07, 2009 8:07:14 | Not bad at all! The Church of the Reformed OTTers approves of this Avatar. |
| #126bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 8:07:36 | lol, ty |
| #127idhrinielSep 07, 2009 10:09:50 | did you have to put in the chinese yoyo??? |
| #128bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 11:28:15 | Changed due to Confusion. |
| #129idhrinielSep 07, 2009 11:32:28 | Ohhh...it still looks like a chinese yoyo to me. ;) (If you know what I mean) |
| #130EscherEnigmaSep 07, 2009 11:35:57 | Is that... a Harry Potter wand or something? |
| #131dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 11:37:52 | the wand I think is suppose to be a phallus symbol and if it is then the pic is a CoC violation and he can get b& for it. |
| #132bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 11:40:58 | Ok, be seroius for a second.
Were you kidding just then, because I just removed the pic and changed avatar. I don't want to be banned. were you kidding or not? |
| #133idhrinielSep 07, 2009 11:41:25 | is anyone having an issue with being logged off of the website automatically? (like when you click to open the thread, and it opens but youre signed out) |
| #134dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 11:44:26 | If the wand is suppose to be a phallus symbol then it would break section 2 of the CoC (look below). basically it would be considered to be masking of obscene, pornographic and/or sexually explicit content. 2. Do not use, post, distribute or link to obscene, pornographic, sexually explicit, graphically or gratuitously violent, derogatory, demeaning, malicious, defamatory, abusive, offensive, hateful or discriminatory language or content. This includes "masking" language by using alternative characters/spelling /spacing to get around profanity filters or claims of profanity filter “testing." |
| #135dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 11:45:05 | is anyone having an issue with being logged off of the website automatically? (like when you click to open the thread, and it opens but youre signed out) I have not had that problem hon. |
| #136awesome_dudeSep 07, 2009 11:46:01 | Even if it is a phallus symbol, it's still a wand. Dirtyfrank was just telling everyone of his puritanical upbringing. |
| #137dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 11:50:01 | Even if it is a phallus symbol, it's still a wand. If it's still a wand it can be masking of sexually explicit content and thus be a CoC violation. |
| #138EscherEnigmaSep 07, 2009 11:50:19 | Phallus symbol? Oh yeah... like swords, towers, staves, rods, castles, the Eiffel Tower, the Washington Monument... Something being a "phallus symbol" really isn't enough to get someone banned unless you're getting way too close to toeing the line. A plain wand? Even if you give a wink and a nudge, that really isn't even close to the line. |
| #139dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 11:57:44 | Phallus symbol? Oh yeah... like swords, towers, staves, rods, castles, the Eiffel Tower, the Washington Monument... I agree but a phallus symbol being a barbarian swinging a large sword is a lot different than a barbarian holding a sword like it's his wang. A plain wand? Even if you give a wink and a nudge, that really isn't even close to the line. Depends how you look at it. It is a wand at the base of the book centered and pointing out into the middle of the air. it isn't resting or leaning against the book. it was purposely positioned where it is. ex: this innuendo in explanation for the pic by the pic's creator "(psst, Idhriniel, thats a wand... (if you knowwhat I mean lol, (think about that))". it was purposely put there as a masking of something sexual which is against the CoC. |
| #140ellorinSep 07, 2009 11:57:45 | I agree. By the way, Escher, did someone steal your Helm of Resplendent Win? |
| #141dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 12:00:16 | you guys can ignore me if you want but I've seen people get hit by the mods for less. |
| #142EscherEnigmaSep 07, 2009 12:41:24 |
Yes. The forum change stole it. |
| #143awesome_dudeSep 07, 2009 12:47:54 | Just like it stole half the capital letters from user names, and forced one on dirtyfrank. |
| #144ellorinSep 07, 2009 12:54:03 | Evidently, the forum change was a true cleptomaniac. |
| #145bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 15:42:39 | Ok everyone, calm down. I was just kidding around with idhriniel, I in NO WAY meant my photo to be dirty, I just thought it looked cool because I thought book+wand = wizard/magic.
I apologize and have removed the pics. Please just stop the discussion about it.
Honestly dirtyfrank, I didn't mean for the comment and the pic to be related at all. I only posted it because she posted about something earlier, and - well, nevermind.
Point is, I didn't mean it to turn out that way, and I fixed any possible mistakes, I am sorry. |
| #146bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 15:44:17 | As a note to any mods,
I DID NOT , in ANY WAY! Mean it to look as it was accused of. I just saw a wand. And I will shortly remove the comment, in case that was also un called for
-Hits Forehead- I could have just stuck with a plain old book.
|
| #147idhrinielSep 07, 2009 15:45:35 | ayuh. |
| #148bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 16:11:30 | Is that in agreement of me? |
| #149dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 16:17:42 | I was just kidding around with idhriniel, I in NO WAY meant my photo to be dirty, I just thought it looked cool because I thought book+wand = wizard/magic. Just for the future though. our avatars are plastered everywhere. If they be dirty they be noticed. it's good to keep such in mind. the book+wand idea is a good one. just be a bit careful where and how you place them. that's all I'm saying. |
| #150bo0kw0rmSep 07, 2009 16:18:36 | Ok, ty for the heads up, as you can see, I've changed my avatar. |
| #151idhrinielSep 07, 2009 16:28:58 | i need to make a costume for king richard's faire, get some elf ears that work with my uber-pale skin tone, and take a picture of me in the costume, with said ears. but should i go druid or assassin? b/c id use said picture as an avvie |
| #152Ragnar_LodbrokSep 07, 2009 16:35:39 | Druid. |
| #153idhrinielSep 07, 2009 17:09:18 | ;) was leanin more towards druid meself...my hair color wouldnt really work for an assassin... |
| #154dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 17:20:19 | Huh? |
| #155idhrinielSep 07, 2009 17:28:17 | =P dirty blonde isnt the best color for an assassin |
| #156KillerGMSep 07, 2009 17:44:51 | ... not having something covering your hair isn't exactly the best for an assassin. |
| #157idhrinielSep 07, 2009 17:46:34 | lol not having something to cover the face isnt right for an assassin =P although hood/mask combo looks awesome ;) |
| #158KillerGMSep 07, 2009 17:49:35 | *shrug* I didn't say covering your face wasn't good for an assassin. We were talking about hair color. If you have identifying hair color, or hair color you don't think is "cool" enough for an assassin, then covering it up is the way to go. Though I think it's funny when an assassin doesn't cover his/her hair. The look should be, IMO, head-to-toe covering. But that's just me. |
| #159idhrinielSep 07, 2009 17:52:13 | ...hmm, maybe a Night Watchman look from the television series of Robin Hood...Marian looked quite nice (even though Guy had to be an ass and kill her) as the Night Watchman...and my hair is not luxuriously long, it is barely longer than my chin. |
| #160KillerGMSep 07, 2009 17:59:46 | I was using the general "you", and I edited that out anyway. For just that reason. |
| #161EscherEnigmaSep 07, 2009 18:29:03 | I think the best thing an assassin could do as far as hair is keep whatever hair they have under a very good cap. And then wear a real human-hair wig on top. That way when those CSI people say "aha! a strand of hair! let's go to way-simplified crime lab that magically has records on anyone ever to find out who it is!" they end up accusing some Tibetan monk halfway around the world that's been growing and cutting his hair for religious reasons. |
| #162KillerGMSep 07, 2009 19:19:10 | My AV is a cake. |
| #163Ragnar_LodbrokSep 07, 2009 19:28:38 | I like cake. |
| #164KillerGMSep 07, 2009 19:41:37 | Me too. :-) |
| #165Ragnar_LodbrokSep 07, 2009 19:44:55 | All hail cake! |
| #166dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 20:08:44 | =P dirty blonde isnt the best color for an assassin depends on what kind of assassin. if you are to be a ninja or stealth type assassin then having anything that is easily seen, flashy or recognizable is not good for you. hair however can be bundled up and covered. However not all assassins are about stealth. Some are all about being seen so that they can get easy access to their target. when the time is right they can strike and then vanish never to be heard from again (changes disguise). |
| #167dirtyfrankSep 07, 2009 20:11:58 | My AV is a cake. THE CAKE IS A LIE!!! =p |
| #168KillerGMSep 07, 2009 20:12:46 | I already did that cake for another friend. |
| #169owls_and_more_owlsSep 07, 2009 20:17:45 | My AV is a cake. Damn you! Obvious joke is Obvious. |
| #170pigknightSep 07, 2009 22:48:28 | *Drools over KGM's avy* |
| #171d11Sep 08, 2009 10:36:07 | *Drools over drool* |
| #172The-Mage-KingSep 09, 2009 9:23:19 | *Drools over explosives* ...What? |
| #173fridaSep 09, 2009 12:52:02 |
Huh? I thought it was an orange shouting at an apple. |
| #174KillerGMSep 09, 2009 14:25:16 | It is now a cake! :D |
| #175EscherEnigmaSep 09, 2009 14:29:35 | That's a lie! It's an orange and apple again! Why are you toying with us?! WHY?!! OH GOD WHY?!! |
| #176KillerGMSep 09, 2009 14:31:00 | ... are you joking with me? I see my cake ... |
| #177zombie_babiesSep 09, 2009 14:33:17 | I see your cake, too. Yep. They's jus' meany-heads. |
| #178EscherEnigmaSep 09, 2009 14:37:55 |
I kid you not: see? Weird huh? I was seeing your cake earlier, but I can't remember if I saw it on this computer or the one at work. So it might be a cache thing on my end. I've noticed that a lot with the photos and things where a change doesn't force a cache refresh so it's sometimes a while before you see a new picture properly. |
| #179KillerGMSep 09, 2009 14:41:21 |
That's why I asked. You usually don't make jokes. Yeah, it's probably the cache thing. |
| #180zombie_babiesSep 09, 2009 15:04:34 | Whoa. That's odd. An' here I was callin' peeps meany-heads. I should probably take that back. I should, but I won't. Meany-heads. |
| #181EscherEnigmaSep 09, 2009 15:18:42 | If you you're just now realizing I'm a "meany head" then I don't think you've been paying attention. |
| #182zombie_babiesSep 09, 2009 15:19:47 | It's not that I haven't been paying attention, it's that I've been thus far too lazy to post my realization. Meany-head. |
| #183fridaSep 09, 2009 15:23:14 |
Ha ha! I saw the orange aswell and didn't understand a thing. I thought that I missed some obvious joke or something. |
| #184EscherEnigmaSep 09, 2009 15:29:30 | Hrm. I'm also seeing the Orange & Apple avvy, and now I'm at my work computer where I know I saw your cake avvy yesterday. So it's not a cache thing. Weird. |
| #185zombie_babiesSep 09, 2009 15:30:51 | This new place is all screwy an' junk. |
| #186dirtyfrankSep 09, 2009 16:18:08 | It was a cake for me when it was first switched. Today it is now orange and apple to me. |
| #187archylleSep 09, 2009 16:24:37 | I assume that from the discussion of this thread, personalized avatars were a general No-No without some kind of special treatment? Glad I came in on these changes then, I'd be lonely without my PaladinHelm avatar I like to use frequently. I've seen some pretty intresting avatars around, all in all, nifty! |
| #188dirtyfrankSep 11, 2009 21:44:39 | It be cake once again. |
| #189Mad_JackSep 12, 2009 2:22:44 |
ACK!!! I just noticed that... I've been capital-jacked... Me sad. On the other hand, one of my friends' children once pointed out that if you make Mad Jack into a single word (Madjack), and say it seven times really fast, by the seventh time you're actually saying "Magic"... |
| #190Mad_JackSep 12, 2009 2:27:03 |
RAWR! I'm a dessert pastry! ![]() |
| #191toastedamphibianSep 14, 2009 5:56:57 |
Nah, I'm pretty sure that, if you are saying madjack seven times really fast, your not saying magic, your saying madjack, seven times, really fast. You probably are not enunciating properly. |
| #192zombie_babiesSep 14, 2009 9:00:58 | You can make your name look right by editing the name you used for your profile. Simply edit you profile to show the name as you'd like it to. For some reason, if your name there differs from your screenname, it gets screwed up. Mine used to say 'Steve'. When I changed it to Zombie_Babies, it finally looked right. |
| #193idhrinielSep 14, 2009 13:52:06 | Anyone have any Red vs. Blue avatars??? As long as it's not Caboose...=P |
| #194ADHadhSep 15, 2009 5:33:15 |
Thanks ZB! Now I can have as many capital letters as I like. |
| #195zombie_babiesSep 15, 2009 9:17:23 | NP. I saw it mentioned by a couple of people and gave it a shot. Glad it helped. |
| #196KillerGMSep 15, 2009 13:09:25 | My AV is a LIE!! |
| #197EscherEnigmaSep 15, 2009 13:11:33 | Cute, KGM, very... cute. |
| #198KillerGMSep 15, 2009 13:17:24 | Heehee. Thanks. I got a whole set of icing tips and some disposable icing bags. I've warned my friends that they'll be eating my experiments in cake/cookie decoration in the future. |
| #199dirtyfrankSep 15, 2009 21:14:17 |
I just noticed, after reading this, that my username is now with all lower cases. That's cool. |
| #200EscherEnigmaSep 16, 2009 7:27:29 | So I had a weird dream last night. In the dream I came to the forums this morning and found that my avatar had been replaced with one of their default ones and I had a new e-mail from them saying "We changed your avatar due to a copyright complaint, yadda yadda yadda We take these complaints very seriously yadda yadda yadda" To which I, of course, responded "... well this is certainly a creative way to try to steal my copyright. Gimme their name so I can break their kneecaps for trying. This image is 100% mine, and any douche that trys to say otherwise is either malicious or stupid (not exclusive) and needs to be educated." And then I woke up. Makes me wonder if there is a way to report someone's avatar on copyright grounds. If so... there's a heck of a lot of people that could potentially be reported. I mean, how many people do you believe actually got permission from the copyright holder before using their image here as an avatar? It certainly doesn't count as a parody in most cases, and I don't think this qualifies as fair use... hrm... |
| #201dirtyfrankSep 16, 2009 9:29:17 | Well that means pretty much everyone would be reported. And then it's the question of why have custom avatar stuff in the first place. We might just go back to the same few defaults that we had before. |
| #202EscherEnigmaSep 16, 2009 9:41:37 |
To be honest, that's kind of why I thought we originally only had the avatars they gave us. It's the only way that WotC can be sure that there's no violations. |
| #203d11Sep 16, 2009 10:19:50 | Public domain + personal Photoshop use = win |
| #204dirtyfrankSep 16, 2009 11:50:28 | I guess you're a bit right or whatnot.
Anyways it all sort of depends upon the artist. If I was all arty and had a bunch of stuff I'd be a bit flattered seeing people using my works for different things on the net. I'd also see it as advertisement especially if it was artwork that I was looking to sell. Of course not everyone is like that. I could always go and find the DA page my avatar is from and link to it to give the artist props, which would help them get some more DA traffic or whatnot. That would be cool I guess. |
| #205zombie_babiesSep 16, 2009 12:27:27 | IIRC, there's some bit someplace about making sure you're allowed to use whatever pic you choose to. So it's on us to be sure we're permitted to use the image we choose. I honestly don't know if mine is ok or not. But I am one lazy bastard. |
| #206EscherEnigmaSep 16, 2009 13:57:57 |
If it's public domain, sure. But most of the stuff you'll find on the internet... isn't. Fact is that nothing in the US "automatically" becomes public domain anymore. So unless something is specifically stated by the rights-owner, it's not. Anyway, not trying to make anyone paranoid. It's just an amusing (to me) thought. |
| #207dirtyfrankSep 16, 2009 14:02:11 | Meh, those on DA that don't want people using their work usualy have that annoying DA stuff over the pic and the same thing with many other sites. |
| #208EscherEnigmaSep 16, 2009 14:26:03 |
And that in no way equivaletes to permission. Just because someone isn't paranoid yet to watermark their images doesn't mean other people have permission to use their work. |
| #209dirtyfrankSep 16, 2009 14:31:10 | Meh, those on DA that don't want people using their work usualy have that annoying DA stuff over the pic and the same thing with many other sites. Nope it doesn't but they should understand that if they are to show their work then someone is likely to take it and especially so on the internet. |
| #210EscherEnigmaSep 16, 2009 14:56:42 | Then I'm not really sure why and what you're arguing, as I never said anything to the contrary to that. |
| #211fridaSep 16, 2009 16:50:07 | You can pick up free legal fantasy avatars Here And yes artist usually prefers to be asked for permission before people use their work. When it comes to avatars permission is usually granted as long as its only resized and cropped. So painted on bunny ears on their cool picture is usually a no no. When it come to other copyright stuff like pictures from movies, companies generally dont care since there's no money in avatars anyway. |
| #212toastedamphibianSep 16, 2009 18:39:32 |
Actually, WoTC is the copy right holder of your avatar, atleast under their old rules. (I don;t know if they changed the EULA or not with the new forums.) Anything you upload to their site becomes their legal intellectual property to do with as they see fit. |
| #213toastedamphibianSep 16, 2009 18:42:36 | @ Frida: What about pictures of stuffed animals that sit attop my home monitor for the last 8 years, and zoomed in + narrowly croped pictures of flames? Do I need to get a picture taker and bust out with some personal fire pictures? (Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes....) |
| #214fridaSep 16, 2009 18:53:57 |
Thats not quite it, you are still the copyright holder but they can use the picture or whatever as they see fit.
What on earth is a picture taker? But I guess you would have to ask your little froggy how it would like to be depicted. |
| #215toastedamphibianSep 16, 2009 19:14:38 | One of them flashy things that make the pictures. |
| #216awesome_dudeSep 16, 2009 19:16:40 | $100 and I make goatse my avatar for five minutes. |
| #217fridaSep 16, 2009 19:23:50 |
Ok! well then, Toasted Ampfibian: you must to go out and make a bon fire, right this minute and take some pictures of it. If not the person who took the picture you used will come to your house and beat you up. |
| #218toastedamphibianSep 16, 2009 19:35:11 | Drat! Dastardly fiends! Good thing I have all the fiery stuff on hand, now I just have to figure out where I can get one of them picture takers. |
| #219zombie_babiesSep 17, 2009 9:52:19 |
Interesting proposal. I'll counter with this: You give me $50 and I'll make Tub Girl my avvy for 2 minutes. I'll also give you $50 to make goatse your avvy for two minutes. Deal? |
| #220d11Sep 17, 2009 9:59:27 | I 100% support this idea |
| #221zombie_babiesSep 17, 2009 10:21:25 |
Ah! Then I suppose you'll be ok with giving both of us $50 for the privilege of making Lemon Party your avvy for two minutes, right? |
| #222d11Sep 17, 2009 10:23:28 | Nah, I'd use something from the Gore Boar folder |
| #223PanartiasSep 18, 2009 2:56:31 |
QFT! But the pun probably wasn't intended: "Eber" (apart from a cute, nasal "ever") means "boar" in German - you know: a male pig! So the only competition (I can think of) to the title "bestest avatar eber" would have been Rumplestix old avatar that isn't around any more. ;)
|
| #224Mad_JackSep 20, 2009 8:09:01 |
Damn, knew there was something I forgot... Jack: Hey Jack, can I have your permission to use that picture? Jack: Um, dude... You're me. Jack: Oh, like that's ever prevented you from starting an argument with me about something... |
| #225dirtyfrankSep 21, 2009 16:18:48 | yeah I like it better than the last. |
| #226toastedamphibianSep 21, 2009 17:14:09 | I'm still more soft and cuddly than you. |
| #227XeadinSep 27, 2009 17:33:13 | I'm a fan of Jak & Daxter, so my avatar is them on the Sand Shark going through the Wastelands. |
