| #2LFKJun 07, 2011 23:11:32 | Sweet. I went to the Alamo Drafthouse in Virgina and it's a really great experience, watching a movie with a decent meal and not crummy popcorn. |
| #3KillerGMJun 07, 2011 23:11:47 | LMAO. |
| #4KlirshonJun 07, 2011 23:18:34 | Figured it was the Alamo Drafthouse. I noticed this on the Consumerist site but that was NSFW as it was uncensored. "Alamo Drafthouse: this isn't your reglear theater." |
| #5homicidal_squirrelJun 07, 2011 23:22:49 | Sweet. I went to the Alamo Drafthouse in Virgina and it's a really great experience, watching a movie with a decent meal and not crummy popcorn. Yeah, we have a few theaters down here where you get a good meal instead of popcorn. THey tend to be a bit more expensive, but they have strict policies of who can and can't go in. No children. In fact, if I remember correctly, guys have to be 21 and girls 18 to get in. The seats are also very large, so there is very limited seating. The good thing is that any seat you get is good. Even the front row. I think there are only 30 seats per screen. And if you start talking or texting during the movie, you also get escorted out. It is worth the extra money to see a movie there. |
| #6KillerGMJun 07, 2011 23:33:32 | There was a place like that in AK, the Moose's Tooth. My friend and I brought my son to go see UP there and it was pretty cool. Because it was more relaxed I didn't feel as bad having a kid in a theatre - everyone was enjoying their food and talking so I wasn't constantly shushing my son. So, it was less stressed than a normal theatre. |
| #7calronmoonflowerJun 07, 2011 23:33:46 | Odd that some people think they have a right to prevent others from watching the movie that they paid. ![]() |
| #8LFKJun 07, 2011 23:40:21 | Meh. I like to pay very little money for screenings. Especially this summer. Man do the flicks suck this year or what! This sounds liek a 30 or 40$ screening. Keep in mind that you're far more likely to see Moon at a draught house than Dark of the Moon. |
| #9homicidal_squirrelJun 07, 2011 23:48:51 | Meh. I like to pay very little money for screenings. Especially this summer. Man do the flicks suck this year or what! This sounds liek a 30 or 40$ screening. That is true, but the alcohol makes it funner. |
| #10LFKJun 07, 2011 23:52:20 | But kids and idiots won't go see flicks like Moon. No need to pay more. I can go to my répertoire theatre and enjoy it there in peace. Well, fair enough. Oh, and tickets are (or, well, were) only about 20$ a piece, so it's actually a decent deal for some pub food and a movie ticket compared to, well, some pub food and a movie ticket. |
| #11homicidal_squirrelJun 08, 2011 0:32:14 | But kids and idiots won't go see flicks like Moon. No need to pay more. I can go to my répertoire theatre and enjoy it there in peace. Wait, the $20 includes the movie and the meal? Damn... that is pretty good. Down here you pay about $15 for the movie plus whatever the food costs. |
| #12LFKJun 08, 2011 0:38:12 | But kids and idiots won't go see flicks like Moon. No need to pay more. I can go to my répertoire theatre and enjoy it there in peace. The huge caveat on this is that I'm now digesting the fact that this was almost ten years ago... I feel old... brb, need to scare some kids off my lawn. |

The 3-D movies cost $20 per person. To be honest, I don't like the 3-D movies. I get annoyed having to wear the glasses. |

| #17LFKJun 08, 2011 0:45:43 |
Very. Perhapse the mild disagreement on the relative value of the offer was enough to call in the ORCs? |
| #18bone_nagaJun 08, 2011 0:50:16 | The 3-D movies cost $20 per person. To be honest, I on't like the 3-D movies. I get annoyed having to wear the glasses. Wow, you're getting scammed. In Alabama I could get tickets to an adult-only showing that had comfortable reclining chairs and a bar for less than $20 a person. Granted that wasn't for 3D but I think 3D seems to go for about $14-15. Then again, I hate 3D so I'm hardly the expert on that. |

South Florida is generally more expensive. I always heard that New York was really expensive and everything. I went there and it all seemed about the same price. You don't even want to know what houses go for around here. |

| #22homicidal_squirrelJun 08, 2011 1:02:30 | So was the holocost. Well done Sir... well done. |
| #23zammmJun 08, 2011 1:23:22 | Nice PSA. Is talking and texting really all that endemic in most US theaters these days? Maybe it's a difference in culture, but I've never noticed any significant number of people talking or texting once the actual movie was going. Well, barring things like outbreaks of mass cheering or laughter at appropriate moments. (I remember the cheering at the very first teaser for the first Transformers movie was particularly deafening.) |
| #24homicidal_squirrelJun 08, 2011 1:42:52 | Nice PSA. Depends on the movie and the audience. |
| #25toastedamphibianJun 08, 2011 1:49:30 | I tend to go to the 10 and 11 pm showings. Strangely, all the **** ass gangbangers are gone by then. Guess they all need their beauty sleep, or something. |
| #26Cpt_MichaJun 08, 2011 8:28:54 | I hate it when people bring babies to a pg 13 or higher film. hire a sitter, moron. And if you can't afford to do that, then don't go to the movies. Because you probably can't afford to do that either. |
| #27pluisjenJun 08, 2011 8:50:47 | For $20 a month you can almost get an Unlimited Subscription.. guess the theater's here aren't as expensive as I thought. (Thought granted; you only need to see more then 2 movies a month to make a subscription cheaper then regular tickets) |
| #28pluisjenJun 08, 2011 9:00:51 | 4 months looks like. Although it seems you do have to pay about 3$ extra for 3d movies. But all in all it looks pretty good. Some of my friends have one, they say it's great. |
| #29KillerGMJun 08, 2011 9:04:08 | I hate it when people bring babies to a pg 13 or higher film. +1. Srsly. Oh, and I also hate the flip-side of that - adults going into a PG and lower rated movie and expecting it to be silent. Now, I'm not talking about jumping around in the isles, but they're kids, dammit. They have energy and want to share stuff while watching the movie, and are still learning to control their impulses and what appropriate behavior is. It's a kid's movie, there are going to be kids there! |
| #30Cpt_MichaJun 08, 2011 9:07:47 | Yeah I don't get that one either. If I'm going to a PG or lower film ( I can't fathom why I would do such at this time) it's going to be late at night, where the odds of children being there are greatly lowered. |
| #31KillerGMJun 08, 2011 9:10:05 | And that makes sense! I'm planning on taking my son to see Cars 2 when it comes out, and I know it's going to be a crazy time! ![]() |
| #32eratoJun 08, 2011 10:17:04 | I hate it when people bring babies to a pg 13 or higher film. I don't know if it's a cultural difference, but I've never run into the problem of parents taking small children to see movies. Perhaps it's because there are special shows just for babies and their parents. But I'd expect small children talking during a children's movie, it's the 13-23 demographic that bothers me the most (around 13-19 for girls and 13-26 for guys), with older men as a distant second. Anyway, the PSAs are awesome, I'd support that theatre in a heartbeat just for that. |
| #33boraxeJun 08, 2011 10:26:42 | Nice. Before going to the cinema everyone should reference the Wittertainment Code of Conduct. |
