| #2baneofelvesNov 10, 2008 12:22:26 | Bacon Burst weapons? that sounds cool. Can you give me the 3.5 version? |
| #3pigknightNov 10, 2008 12:45:54 | I haven't put the links up, but they're in my sig if you wanna check them out. |
| #4pigknightNov 10, 2008 15:57:57 | Ok because this doesn't seem to be popular I'll also add my rants to this. Remember my rants? |
| #5zombie_babiesNov 10, 2008 15:59:59 | Ok because this doesn't seem to be popular I'll also add my rants to this. Remember my rants? Yeah. More rants, less blog. Blog schmog. Rants FTW piggy! :P |
| #6doomsoughtNov 10, 2008 17:17:07 | links links links! Do you need any ideas for the Death knight paragons, or any suggested ones? |
| #7pigknightNov 10, 2008 19:25:44 | The Death Knight already has paragon paths, and a supplement, and almost 3,000 views. EDIT: Added links for stuff on forums, but not for Bacon Burst, those are in my sig. |
| #8doomsoughtNov 10, 2008 19:31:46 | The Death Knight already has paragon paths, and a supplement, and almost 3,000 views. Oh, they weren't on the list. But still install links to your work. |
| #9pigknightNov 10, 2008 19:52:19 | Paragon Paths for my custom classes WILL NOT have their own link, they are in the class's own thread. And I already did, and you quoted my statement that says I have. |
| #10pigknightNov 10, 2008 20:04:43 | I'm fed up with this "katana fanboi-ism". They're overrated and terrible swords. You want a stabbing sword? Get a longsword. You want a slashing sword? Get a scimitar. You want a parrying blade? A dagger is better. God help you if you parry with a katana. Katanas are folded like 15~20 times at most, which is why they're technically folded 1,000 times. Katanas were used in Japan (and were actually good there) because the troops didn't wear metal armor and there was little metal for a solid blade. [/rant] |
| #11doomsoughtNov 10, 2008 20:23:08 |
Don't forget that they are actually ceremonial swords and have likely been used more often for ritual suicide than combat. |
| #12pigknightNov 10, 2008 20:29:05 | Actually they were used in combat quite a bit, but samurai used bows and polearms more often. |
| #13baneofelvesNov 10, 2008 22:07:41 | Katanas suck. I've researched it a bit, and like Pig Knight said, they prefered Polearms and Bows. Of course, there will always be those who say that Katanas deal 5d20 points of damage and make awesome sounds when swung. But they're silly. Anyone with sense knows that is the stats of a Lightsaber. And there will always be those who are so infatuated with Japanese history/culture/whatever that they will ignore the excellent points made by Doomsought and PigKnight. Really, I think a Longsword is more practical. It's thicker, and I think that makes it more difficult to break. (I really don't know. I need to read up on medeival weapons) But Katanas break VERY VERY easily. Why get a sword that may or may not properly block/deflect the blade coming at you? |
| #14pigknightNov 10, 2008 22:31:01 | Actually I give them sword drawing props. |
| #15baneofelvesNov 10, 2008 22:52:55 | Yeah, I know they draw 'em really fast. I was just trying to think of another argument. Maybe I'll go on about how easily the blade shattered instead. Time to edit. |
| #16goblin_prideNov 11, 2008 1:09:16 | Actually they were used in combat quite a bit, but samurai used bows and polearms more often. That depends on the era. The more peaceful periods from the Tokugawa Shogunate onward, samurai were required to carry the two swords and warfare was fairly uncommon. Since the swords were easily at hand and the primary use was in correcting the breach of custom by an unarmed and unarmored peasantry, the katana was perfect. During previous eras, the spear and bow were the preferred weapons and sumurai might not even own a sword. Who would've thought I'd ever use that bit of useless history? |
| #17pigknightNov 13, 2008 20:11:14 | Added monsters and a new rant: The title says it all really. |
| #18paul_profession_bakerNov 14, 2008 2:40:37 | Katanas suck. I've researched it a bit, and like Pig Knight said, they prefered Polearms and Bows. Of course, there will always be those who say that Katanas deal 5d20 points of damage and make awesome sounds when swung. The thickness of the sword does not equate to it's resistance to shear stress, a.k.a. resistance to being broken by pressure or a hit. You see, metals are cristals. They are formed of periodically organised atoms "sharing" a number of electrons (a little simplified view, but it works fine for what we are discussing). Since it is organised, there are planes of atoms that are easily slided, causing defects (called dislocations) that will lead to bond breaking. You can even see that the thickness is irrelevant, only the few bonds breakings at the edge of the plane are important. Thus, it is generally easy to break a pure monocrystallin metal, no matter it's thickness. That is why blacksmithes learned pretty fast to plunge the heated metal in water. A rapid cooling of the metal causes heterogeneous cristallin growth. Hence, the blade is not one cristal, but a sum of small amalgamated crystals. That is why the blades get "chipped". Only small portions, corresponding to the dimension of one monocrystal in the blade, get torn out from the blade. Thus, the blades are more robust. Now, the thickness as a certain influence, the more monocrystal that are contained, the better the sword will resist. But it is still not equated to shear resistance, since a thinner blade could have smaller monocrystals. As a last note, I want to mention the Damas Swords. They are fabled as the strongest swords ever forged. Modern imaging techniques have found that carbon nanotubes are embedded in these swords. Carbon nanotubes are small tubes made of rolled up graphene sheets. They possess the highest tensil strength, maybe even higher then diamond. These tubes could prevent cracks, just like the metal armatures put in concrete. Pretty neat stuff. |

(btw, my whole thing where I was talking crap about katanas wasn't serious. They're cool swords) |
| #20goblin_prideNov 14, 2008 15:44:39 | That does sound interesting. Hmm. I'm gonna take a look at that stuff. The physics of the metallurgy is really amazing if you look at the history as well. Considering the culture, religion and technology level of the time, the japanese skill in making steel of such a high grade is phenomenal. |
| #21baneofelvesNov 14, 2008 16:34:31 | I took a look at the link earlier and all I can say is wow |
| #22pigknightNov 14, 2008 18:52:31 | World of Warcraft WoW or woah wow? And we're already on the second rant, I thought the katana rant died a while ago. |
| #23baneofelvesNov 15, 2008 12:58:30 | it's a woah wow. sorry about dragging up the katana rant again. I'll contribute to the new one. lesse. Hannah Montana. Who the hell is that? (I'm serious. I haven't really been able to keep up with the news or stupid celebrities that somehow manage to get into the news for idiotic reasons.) I'll just assume that she's a Paris Hilton in training. Am I right? |

| #42pigknightAug 13, 2009 17:58:02 | Hey Bane I called her first. Bro code and all. :P |
| #43idhrinielAug 13, 2009 17:58:14 | You...... Even if I stood for world peace? Or are you a warmonger, taking your name into consideration...oh my god, you won't try to kill my OTTAA character, would you? |
| #44baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:00:32 | Hey Bane I called her first. Bro code and all. :P Wait, what? ![]() Even if I stood for world peace? Or are you a warmonger, taking your name into consideration...oh my god, you won't try to kill my OTTAA character, would you? If I joined, I totally would try. But I already know what pigknight's play by post games are like. Just know that, I will kill your character one day. (even if it's only in my dreams) All the damnable elves shall perish. EDIT: Also, I tend to start arguments and am really aggressive, so I guess I'm a warmonger. (sort of) |
| #45pigknightAug 13, 2009 18:03:19 | Wait, what? Idh is a girl. :P |
| #46baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:04:19 | Idh is a girl. :P Okay. I just told her that I was against everything that she believed in and I would oppose her in every way. I'm her arch-enemy. You can hit on her if you want. I don't date my enemies. |
| #47pigknightAug 13, 2009 18:05:55 | Foe-yay. Hate sex is the best kind. :P |
| #48baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:06:48 | Foe-yay. I'm not getting involved in that again. I learned from my mistakes (unlike you) psst. Is she hot? :P |
| #49idhrinielAug 13, 2009 18:07:27 | **IN-CHARACTER** Lorethiel crept through the shadows, as silent as any drow elf on the prowl. She tips a dart in drow sleeping poison. With a barely audible click, the miniature quarrel thuds into its target: Baneofelves. Without wasting any time, Lorethiel stalks up to her target and draws a long, wicked dagger. In moments, the blade is at Baneofelves's throat, and a bloody smile is drawn with the point, slicing the windpipe and all major blood vessels. At least it would be a swift death. **END OF IN-CHARACTER** Oh, sorry, did my OTTAA character's alter-ego come up from behind and kill you? HA! |
| #50pigknightAug 13, 2009 18:07:40 | I dunno, she hasn't posted pics. We're being creepy. :P |
| #51baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:08:46 | **IN-CHARACTER** I'm an epic level caster. You think I'm stupid enough to just wait out in the open? Pfft. That was insulting. That was a simulacrum. A level 1 simulacrum. With no good loot. So, no level ups for you. And no shiny lewts. Happy? :P |
| #52idhrinielAug 13, 2009 18:09:25 | I dunno, she hasn't posted pics. if you wanna see pics of me friend me on facebook |
| #53baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:09:26 | I dunno, she hasn't posted pics. Do you think she's reading what we're saying? Should I talk to her? Ohmygod, she's looking at us! Quick, pretend we're not talking about her! |
| #54baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:10:00 | if you wanna see pics of me friend me on facebook I can't get on facebook cuz it's a blocked site on the computers I use. |

| #58baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:12:40 | Sure. So, are we throwing water balloons at 30 paces then? |
| #59pigknightAug 13, 2009 18:13:34 | Yup. |
| #60idhrinielAug 13, 2009 18:14:06 | That is it! The gauntlet has been thrown down! The swords are drawn! Madam, we are now arch-enemies, destined to battle each other till one of us falls to the ground, stained with our blood and the blood of our foe, dying a glorious death in battle! Prepare yourself, hideous elf-lover! **Written in first-person style, like a book.** "Don't be so hasty to hate. I'm not an elf-lover anyways...I just favor them as a race. But," I said, walking up to him, "not everything is as it seems." My finger traced his jawline, and it felt as if his muscles were straining not to twitch. |
| #61baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:14:52 | Wait. I thought that's how we battled it out last time we had a disagreement. It's your turn to pick how we fight. Nothing perverted. Or I will keel you. I weel find you and keel you if you pick a pervy way of fighting. |
| #62subsistcyberAug 13, 2009 18:16:01 | Despite my name... I'm not into the whole cyber scene. I'm outta here! |
| #63pigknightAug 13, 2009 18:16:47 | **In first person** "Idh! How can you abandon me? For this, mongrel?" I ask her. |
| #64baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:17:15 | Despite my name... I'm not into the whole cyber scene. I'm outta here! Get out, *****. Seriously. Get the **** out. Or I'll beat your punk ass too. Soon as I finish of the piggles. EDIT: :P |
| #65idhrinielAug 13, 2009 18:20:32 | **First-person** I ignored Pigknight's complaint as I engaged Baneofelves in a deep kiss. Silently, I drew a dagger from behind me and held it behind him, at the area where the skull meets the neck. I broke off the kiss, and said, coldly, "Checkmate." |
| #66baneofelvesAug 13, 2009 18:23:17 | **First-person** **First-Person** I cast Time Stop, ignoring the damnable drow. Taking the dagger I throw it out the nearby window, then end the spell, pointing a wand at the elf. "Really? Maybe it is for me, you pointy eared freak." |
| #67pigknightAug 13, 2009 18:26:34 | *First-person* *Insert rage of jealousy!* |
| #68idhrinielAug 13, 2009 18:28:25 | **First Person** "Easy, wizard. I have a few tricks of my own." Dropping a globe of darkness over Baneofelves's head, I muttered my own spell, not stopping time but slowing it, and snapped the wand. I ran out of the darkness globe just as the spell disipated. |
| #69dirtyfrankAug 13, 2009 18:28:32 | I erased the OP 'cause I'm mean. :P I still think ya need to revamp your bacon burst sword. |
