Well, its epic movie all over again.
Seriously did Epic Movie, Superhero Movie, and Meet the Spartans really make enough money to warrant this? I don't know anyone whose seen these I don't know anyone who wants to see these.
Well SOMEBODY is watching them. If they turn even a slight profit they'll take that as a sign to board the money train all the way to the bank. Unfortunately the only way to stop them is to raise social awareness a few notches. Hopefully that will keep the crowds of folks that find this sort of drek funny from putting down hard earned cash at the box office or movie rental place. That in turn will stop lining the pockets of the people that make these films.
When they stop making even a few bucks off them, they'll stop making these awful movies.
But don't go hoping for that anytime soon...

Meet the Spartans was the greatest movie ever. Perhaps the most brilliant parody of our time. I am going to buy a set of tickets to this film for everyone who posted their hatred of low-brow comedies.
This kind of **** makes me so frakking angry. I can't help but think of all the small indies and struggling undiscovered talents that will never see the light of day and never get a chance cos movie companies pour money into making **** like that instead.

Somebody never watched Scary Movie and Napoleon Dynamite.
I think these films are a whole different ballgame. They cash in on the audience getting some kind of rush out of being familiar with what is most popular. Familiarity, on paper and by itself, shouldn't be funny unless deft style is employed. Case in point, Spaceballs, which basically did the same thing, but for many of us seemed funnier because it had an ambitious and clever style.
There's few suprises in unambitious satire. Anyone can kick Hanna Montana in the nuts, but they wouldn't even get that right. I have no problem with low brow humor mixed in there with my dry English imports, but shoddy is shoddy.
Then again, what do I know about anything? Clearly people are responding to it or they wouldn't keep making them.

You never know, really. It's possible that one of their previous films did well, and the studio signed them on for a multiple-movie deal. If the studio signed off on letting them do five more movies, they'll do five more movies, even if the first three are unprofitable drek.
Really, if the first three are unprofitable drek, they might just try to minimize the financial damage by cutting the budget even more, resulting in the absolute bottom of the barrel in terms of writing and acting "talent." The only plus side to this is that they'll kill the market on this kind of movie, and maybe the money will go to more worthwhile projects.
In five years time this movie will stop making sense while Naked Gun will keep on attracting more and more people :D
