BEER for D&D

So, I'm sat here having been to the pub and had one pint and now supping some of my own brew. Doing so, it occured to me, what beer best suits D&D?

Ah, I thought, of course, my favourite beer of all time - Hobgoblin from Wytchwood brewery.

Not only does the name sound right, but the beer itself is dark and brooding, just like the atmosphere of a D&D game - at least,  that is the case for my games anyway.

What are your favourite beers, wines, soft drinks, etc, to enjoy with D&D?

Hobgoblin is a good one!

My personal favorite regardless if im playing D&D or not has got to be Samual Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Great stuff. I love Dark beers and this stuff is so dark its black. Its got a very full, hearty flavor. Definate thunbs up!

I usually have either a bottled water (brand unimportant ... it's WATER for Ceiling Cat's sake), a Sunkist Cherry Limeade, or if I'm feeling some dire need for caffeine, Mountain Dew Live Wire.

I am unable to drink alcohol due to certain prescription medications I'm on, so well, that shoots THAT in the foot.

Miller Genuine Draft has done for us in a pinch, but I always have to recommend microbrews. Local microbrews. Anyone in Wisconsin, check out New Glarus (esp. Crack'd Wheat or Fat Squirrel), Sprecher, Capital Brewery. All three of those are delicious.

For other parts of the country/world, check out BeerAdvocate's beer directory. It will not fail you.

For me, it's a Starbucks quad venti vanilla latte, whole milk, no foam (and my buddy goes for a bold red eye).

Sprecher is awesome. They need to expand more. I rarely get to have their beer or root beer anymore since I haven't lived in Wisconsin for years.

For all of you who've never had Sprecher, this should give you an idea what it's like.

Also, cool to see a fellow Wisconsinite on these boards. Nice to meet you.

My favourite as well, but at $3.45 a bottle 'round here a little steep to consume in quantity. And BTW, there's no "t" in Wychwood.

So basically a hot milkshake. You should try coffee some time. Wink

Actually - on rare occassions (if I'm extremely tired) I'll bump it to a 6-shot, but that's a bit rough on my tummy.

Seconded, especially that I usually DM for younger audience, which makes me the only one of legal age. And I don't like beer.

But we go with Guiness or Heineken to quench our sore throats.... with the talking and all...

Beer is for kids. My old group would kick off the night with Screaming Nazis and get experimental from there. I usually stuck to Gimlets.

I haven't had a Screaming Nazi in a good long time.  I'm perfectly ok with it, too. :P

I drink an Arizona Green Tea when I game.  D&D time is for D&D.  Drinkin' time is for drinkin'.  I also game on Sundays so work the next day wouldn't be any fun.  And I game about 14 miles from home.  I don't drive drunk.  Period.  I don't drive if I'm even close.  Just not worth it.  If I can't get a ride to the bar or secure one home, I just don't go.  So drinkin' during D&D is right out.

D&D time is about the only time I really drink at all. *Note I never get drunk. I don't see the point.*

A round or two of vodka, or maybe some Bocardi Gold but nothing too major. Enough to feel it but enough to still be reasonably sound minded.

As a rule, I find beer to be nearly undrinkable. Either it tastes like piss water, or it tastes like some horrible coffee liquerish love child gone wrong. (looking at you British Beers in particular)

Yeah, I know. I just prefer the harder drinks. I don't mean the fruity little umbrella drinks, either. We made a couple of variations on the Screaming Nazi, naming them after the Eastern Front and the Western Front depending on whether we used vodka or cognac.

I myself dont care for beer, all too bitter. I drink sweet breakfast wines, or chambord (a French black raspberry liqueur)
I no longer allow drinking at my gaming table, and here is why...
playing star wars RCR with friends, ex-gf and her new BF. He like his rum and cokes. the first drink is 1 shot rum, rest cola, second drink is 2 rum, rest cola, then 3 shots rum, rest cola. at this time he is really uncordinated, missing his turns.... and gives back all 10 shots of rum and 2 liters of coke all over the laminated gaming board, plastic miniatures, and open books...Yell

Edit Again. Well this is ridiculous it's censoring my link too! Why? Why? What does D&D have against good ol ****ss!?

I'll try again but this time I'm going to be sneaky about it.

When Playing D&D I like a tall glass of G U I N N E S S!

HA! got it that time! But seriously why is ****ss being censored? and its only the **** part. Is that a cuss word in another language or something?

I almost always DM when I play, so I have a history of never drinking during D&D.

If I did, I would go for something lighter, like an amber ale.  I enjoy Fat Tire, Alaskan Amber and a few other brews of similar style.    If I'm trying to get seriously drunk, I'll go for Arrogant Bastard Ale to start with, and then go for the rum.  :D

#40

no, not priceless at all, 8 discontinued books at 20-30 each is 160-240 dollars I washed the board and miniatures (put them in a hampster ball and put it through the dishwasher on the top rack.) but the books were ruined.

IF we drink at the table (which we usually don't, except for large amounts of tea and water) then we have mead, and we drink from clay mugs Cool

(It really does taste better from those)

Agreed. Rule #1 in my house, "If you can't hold your booze, DON'T DRINK."

Yes and yes. It is really not much different than making beer or cider. All you really need is water, honey, yeast, and time.
