| #1turalisjMay 17, 2009 4:54:16 | Just what the title says. My vote goes for GitS: 2nd GiG theme Rise by Origa. It has both english and russian lyrics in the song, which makes it an oddity as far as anime themes go :P |
| #2cherubaddonMay 17, 2009 5:25:23 | Lilium, from Elfenlied. |
| #3ranadielMay 17, 2009 7:07:35 | I'd have to currently go with Again for the new Fullmetal Alchemist series. |
| #4pigknightMay 17, 2009 8:42:08 | Both of the opening scenes from Death Note. |
| #5demiteddybearMay 17, 2009 8:49:54 | The theme tune to Soultaker |
| #6cat2060May 17, 2009 12:30:56 | Fruits Basket - walked down the asile to that one. |
| #7KillerGMMay 17, 2009 12:35:37 | Cowboy Bebop. I even have it on my iPod, which is odd for me. |
| #8dirtyfrankMay 17, 2009 12:42:42 | Bleach opening 5 - Rolling Star Death Note opening 2 - What's Up People Edit: Yeah, the Cowboy Bebop one is also good. It has few words which is always a bonus. ![]() Cowboy Bebop intro - Tank |
| #9owls_and_more_owlsMay 17, 2009 17:14:32 | Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Big O |
| #10MechaPilotMay 17, 2009 21:13:07 | For my money, it's a 3-way tie between Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and GitS: 2nd GiG. They're all great, but they evoke highly different emotions so it's hard to honestly compare them. |
| #11NyronusMay 17, 2009 21:22:13 | Big O I love the music, but the opening animation is very... lame. That, and the song really should be only 30 seconds long. My personal favorites are: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - Sorairo Days Neon Genesis Evangelion - Cruel Angel's Thesis and Bleach - Ichirin no Hana This one isn't one of the greatest anime themes ever, but it has a special bit of flavor which I am fond of. Outlaw Star - Through the Night |
| #12That_Blasted_SomoflangeMay 18, 2009 4:52:09 | I'm going to go with Cowboy Bebop. However, Baccano! is pretty close. |
| #13AlasMay 18, 2009 13:38:14 | I'd cast my vote for either the opening theme for Berserk! (strikes me as very Pixies) or the opening theme for Vision of Escaflowne (Yoko Kanno at her best). Secondary nominations would go to "Blurry Eyes" from DNA^2 (simply rockin' tune) and "Orange Mystery" from Kimagure Orange Road (personal favorite series ever). (These titles should reveal to you that I am old. Old!) |
| #141_ton_ghostMay 18, 2009 13:50:21 | -"Tank", Yokko Canno (Cowboy Beebop) is the sh-t. Ritzy, fast sound, fits theme. -"Kaneda" (1st track, Akira) is super heavy percussion. Tako drums rock. -"Main Theme" (Samuari 7), similar to Kaneda, more stylized, pan flutes/drums. |
| #15turalisjMay 18, 2009 13:53:48 | Psst, 1TG, it's Yokko Kano :P |
| #161_ton_ghostMay 19, 2009 10:54:59 | Psst, 1TG, it's Yokko Kano :P Ah, I stand corrected, thanks. But, yeah, Kano & The Seatbelts (what a namesake, right?). You'd be amazed at the discography, way the Hell bigger than I thought. |
| #17melloredMay 19, 2009 11:29:35 | Noir, it's the only opening i didn't skip after the first time or 2. |
| #18MechaPilotMay 19, 2009 15:15:23 | One of my absolute favorites is the opening for Gunsmith Cats. It's not fast-paced and stylized like many of the others I like, but it has a camp feel to it that is very comforting. Gunsmith Cats opening Plus I found a great music video for it: Gunsmith Cats AC/DC music video |
| #19thakowsaizmuMay 20, 2009 0:15:54 | I'd have to say the opening to 神無月の巫女 followed by 一騎当千! Though I may be a bit bias on account of the fact that 神無月の巫女 is my favourite animé... |
| #20cherubaddonMay 20, 2009 5:09:50 | I'd have to say the opening to 神無月の巫女 followed by 一騎当千! Though I may be a bit bias on account of the fact that 神無月の巫女 is my favourite animé... Thanks dude, that's real helpful ;) . |
| #21NovacatMay 20, 2009 6:50:32 | Note: I have specifically avoided "popular" anime openings such as Naruto, Bleach, and Death Note, because I'm sure you'll see them posted by others. In fact, I haven't watched Death Note in so long that I had to go back and rewatch the openings so see if they were any good (which they are). My Top 5 Anime Openings: Pumpkin Scissors Opening This opening's music is haunting, catchy and matches perfectly with its gritty visuals. The anime itself is also top-quality, if a little too short. Neon Genesis Evangelion Opening While this show made me madder than any other anime with its sorry excuse for an ending, the opening sequence was awesome enough that not once did I skip it for all 26 episodes (in fact, the opening was the highlight of the last 3 episodes). VanDread 1st Opening The opening gives you a pretty good overview of how the anime looks and feels. It's a great two-season series, with kickass action scenes and an engaging sci-fi story. Karin Opening This anime was fun, and the opening is memorable, if uncomfortably heavy on nudity. I chose the pre-reveal version of the opening to avoid spoiling who the silhouette is if any of you choose to watch this series. Fate-Stay Night 2nd Opening While this opening was good, it wasn't as good as the show itself, and so I found myself skipping the opening sometimes, and it found its way lower on my list. |
| #22dirtyfrankMay 20, 2009 8:47:58 | Thanks dude, that's real helpful ;) . I concur. |
| #23NovacatMay 20, 2009 8:54:03 | I'd have to say the opening to 神無月の巫女 followed by 一騎当千! Though I may be a bit bias on account of the fact that 神無月の巫女 is my favourite animé... Link or it didn't happen. |
| #24The_White_SorcererMay 20, 2009 10:11:57 | Thanks dude, that's real helpful ;) . The first one I don't recognize (it's Something no Miko, though), but I think the second one is Ikkitousen. This is without checking, of course. ——— Oh, and it's Yoko Kanno, not Yokko Kano. |
| #25weasel0May 20, 2009 11:12:29 | Geez, no mention of Black Lagoon[Red Faction by Mell] or any of the D.Gray-Man openings, also Darker than Black(both D.[innocent sorrow] and Darker[howling] share the Abington Boys School band for various openings. They rock.). |
| #26AlasMay 20, 2009 12:16:36 | Ooh, ooh-- thought of another one! "Cautionary Warning," the opening to Black Heaven. Very old school hard rock/speedy metal. |
| #27EscherEnigmaMay 20, 2009 12:33:07 | The opening theme to Slayers. |
| #28thakowsaizmuMay 20, 2009 12:39:09 | The first one I don't recognize (it's Something no Miko, though), but I think the second one is Ikkitousen. This is without checking, of course. (かんなづき)の巫女. It's an older word. The name for the month when the Kami would leave. It means "godless month". Priestesses of the godless month should be the English translation, but it isn't... |
| #29EscherEnigmaMay 20, 2009 12:40:23 | Ack. Funny symbols. Run away. |
| #30joni-sanMay 20, 2009 12:51:51 | My personal favorites are: I agree. Also, this thread needs more ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWER! |
| #31weasel0May 20, 2009 19:15:03 | I agree. I am truly frightened to click that link.... |
| #32MechaPilotJun 23, 2009 14:05:49 | I recently found one that I love. Hope you enjoy it (the opening theme starts at 1:15 into the episode on this one). Rosario+Vampire (season two) |
| #33ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 23, 2009 14:25:29 | I Agree with Neon Genesis Evangelion, DNA^2, Cowboy bebop and Love Hina(cracks me up every time) |
| #34williamhm75Jun 23, 2009 16:40:09 | My favorites are the opening for Bublgum Crisis Tokyo 2040, Scryed, Infinite Revyius, and the first opening for Sayuki. Kiddy Grade also has an amazing opening as does Noir. |
| #35ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 24, 2009 14:44:28 | This is an Old one but the Robotech in tro was and is still awesome, The first two intro from Ruronin Kenshin, and the intro for tenchi universe. @William I love Bublgum Crisis Tokyo 2040 in tro too |
| #36williamhm75Jun 24, 2009 15:28:35 | This is an Old one but the Robotech in tro was and is still awesome, The first two intro from Ruronin Kenshin, and the intro for tenchi universe. Kenshin does have an awsome opening. The original robotech opening wasnt bad either though for giant robot anime themesongs im going to have to go with opening from Martian Successor Nadesco. |
| #37felgorothOct 16, 2009 15:49:15 | Cowboy Bebop. I even have it on my iPod, which is odd for me. Tank is by far the best |
| #38Fox_ReeveheartOct 16, 2009 17:21:00 | This is easy ^_^ both season 1 and 2 openings of ah! my goddess! Especially season 2... mixing the japanese vocals of an absolute angel that is yoko ishida with bagpipes was BRILLIANT. |
| #39SilvercrysOct 18, 2009 15:37:54 | I'm rather fond of the first two openings from Rurouni Kenshin, the opening from Blood+, and the opening from 07-Ghost. Oh, and both Ghost in the Shell openings. And the one from Cowboy BeBop. |
| #40Demetri_KnighthawkOct 20, 2009 1:23:27 | never heard of pumkin scissors before, but the animation looks similar to full metal alchemist, same universe or art production team? as for songs, nothing that hasent been mentioned other than witch hunter robin and van helsing. |
| #41Nai_CalusOct 20, 2009 9:10:43 | The opening theme to Slayers. Which one? :p (Correct answer: All three of them. Though apparently they did a new series I haven't heard much about recently...) I tend to find myself liking Ending themes more, but: Magic Knight Rayearth: Yuzurenai Negai Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Rinbu Revolution Fushigi Yuugi: Itooshi Hito no Tame ni Saber Marionette J: Successful Mission (Dating myself much?) |
