| #1KillerGMFeb 24, 2011 11:03:46 | I was cruising in my car the other day, and, trying to find something without a ton of cursing so my son doesn't constantly tell me my music says "bad words", I put on Crystal Method's Vegas. And I remembered what an awesome album it was! The rythm, melodies, tempos, layering - just a great album. There is only one song I skip through (it had a base beat that bothers me), but every other song is just golden! Keep Hope Alive is my favorite song, but Trip Like I Do is a close second. So, I thought, "Geeks like to share their opinions on stuff, I should make a thread!" What are some of your favorite albums? And please, let's not bash each other's choices too much, OK? If someone likes Justin Beiber or some death metal band, just let them be! Who knows, you might find a new band (or appreciation for an old band)!![]() |
| #2Cpt_MichaFeb 24, 2011 11:12:26 | Dire Straits is always fun. |
| #3KillerGMFeb 24, 2011 11:26:01 | Um ... Albums, not artists, please. This is supposed to be "the best album". Like, pick your favorite Dire Straits album - the one you think exemplifies their style, the pinnacle of their music, etc. Thanks! ![]() |
| #4jetshieldFeb 24, 2011 11:30:30 | Great Big Sea - Sea of No Cares |
| #5zombie_babiesFeb 24, 2011 12:40:24 | I was cruising in my car the other day, and, trying to find something without a ton of cursing so my son doesn't constantly tell me my music says "bad words", I put on Crystal Method's Vegas. Yeah, Vegas kicks ass and I'm really into the two tracks you listed, too. Thing is, I have trouble with Trip Like I Do thanks to the Filter/Method collaberation effort on the Spawn soundtrack. It's, IMO, more fun. I can't really listen to this album anymore, though, cuz I used to bump it in my ol' Dakota with the 1240 watt system. Not feeling this album (literally) the same way just makes it feel sorta empty. Oh well, it's still one of the best evah!Monster Magnet's Powertrip is probably my favorite album of all time. I only skip one song and I can always, always go back to it. It never gets old, always makes me happy and is truly amazing. The lyrics, of course (Wyndorf, duh) are awesome and the guitar is truly fantastic. Ya just can't beat this album if you like hard rock, stoner rock or just rock in general, IMO. I'm also quite partial to Down's first album NOLA. Great stuff. And they're a superband, too. Something about it screams spring weather to me so I always end up listening to it too loudly with the sunroof open. Stone the Crow is one of the best rock songs evah, too.Acumen Nation's Anticore is also one of the best. Heavier than they normally are but with the signature sound still in tact. Nice industrialish fun. Two from the same artist (sorta) God Lives Underwater's Empty and David Reilly's Inside. Great for different reasons altogether for the most part, they share one thing: the man was a true musical genius, had a way with lyrics and always put together music that was ahead of its time. And I'll end with Stone Temple Pilot's Core. It's just great all around. And it reminds me of simpler times with less responsibility and much, much more beer. |
| #6IdolisFeb 24, 2011 13:07:29 | Around the Bend- Randy Travis. Favorite song: Dig Two Graves. The others are pretty good too but I love Dig Two Graves. AC/DC- Back in Black. Most of the songs simply rock. Lynyrd Skynyrd- Second Helping is also a favorite. |
| #7pluisjenFeb 24, 2011 13:09:50 | Most awesome album I've ever heard was Moment of Glory from the Scorpions... all the tracks are performed with an orchestra backing them and it sounds so awesome.Great Big Sea - Sea of No Cares I like those a lot as well |
| #8df63Feb 24, 2011 13:14:48 | London Calling - The Clash Best band ever. Not a bad song on it. It's my 6-year old son's favorite album too. |
| #9ADHadhFeb 24, 2011 13:38:33 | Guns n' Roses - Use Your Illusion I & II |
| #10EscherEnigmaFeb 24, 2011 14:19:46 | Hrm... I don't really do that "album" thing anymore, what with iPods being the death of portable CD players and making "mixed discs" the de facto norm... But if I had to choose a single album... Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell II. In other news, I just realized that when I get around to having a midget running around the house I'm going to have to sanitize my music selection... |
| #11zombie_babiesFeb 24, 2011 14:23:58 | I'm bad about that. I try to be careful cuz I listen to some questionable stuff as far as what kids should hear goes, but I like to share. Still, there are certain things we don't let the lad listen to just yet. |
| #12WahooneyFeb 24, 2011 15:09:18 | My two absolute favourite albums would be "Sheer Heart Attack" by Queen and "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. the latter is mostly ballads, so may be less suitable for long trips with risk of drowsiness. Neither album has any bad language I can remember. |
| #13JhariiFeb 24, 2011 15:12:34 | My top 3 are close, but nothing else is near to these: 1. The Cult - Love 2. Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine 3. U2 - The Joshua Tree |
| #14boraxeFeb 24, 2011 16:56:55 | I was cruising in my car the other day, and, trying to find something without a ton of cursing so my son doesn't constantly tell me my music says "bad words", I put on Crystal Method's Vegas. Yeah, Crystal Method's Vegas is awesome. Actually anything Crystal Method is awesome, really. It and Dig Your Own Hole are in high rotation on my iPod. It's hard for me to peg down just one album by any given band, especially in the modern era of MP3 random play. If I had to pick a Top 3 right now I'd go with: Road to Ruin - The Ramones Off the Bone - The Cramps Swordfishtrombones - Tom Waits Edit: I just checked and apparently my Most Played album (according to my iPod) is Essential Big Beats, a 2-disc compilation of fantastic Big Beats (duh!) from the late 90's. For any fans of the brilliant TV series SPACED, there's three or four tracks on this collection that were used in the show. Speaking of compilations, any fans of early 80's punk should search for Punk & Disorderly on iTunes. P&D was a series of compilation albums (actual albums, vinyl and all) back on the day and you can now get a collection of 50 (yes, fifty) tunes for just $9.99! There are some real classics in the mix. Totally worth the money. |
| #15grehnheweFeb 24, 2011 19:44:25 | Off the Bone - The Cramps The Cramps were a fantastic band. I do not have Off the Bone, but I have most of their early studio albums and Smell of Female (live), one of my favourites. In the vein of early Punk and Disorderly, I appreciate the Adicts- Songs of Praise and GBH- City Babies Revenge among others. I could never pick a favourite album, but I could list some I have been listening to recently: Buzzcocks- Singles going Steady Discharge- Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing Alpha Blondy- Jerusalem Iggy Pop- Raw Power The Dickies- Roir Sessions (I also appreciate all the other favourites I have seen so far) |
| #16Sheffields_ParkFeb 24, 2011 20:12:44 | I don't think I have a "best album ever," but here's a few of my favorites... "Thirteenth Step" by A Perfect Circle. "Diamond Eyes" by The Deftones "Ashes of the Wake" by Lamb of God "Lateralus" by Tool "Oceanic" by Isis "The Tide and Its Takers" by 36 Crazyfists |
| #17boraxeFeb 24, 2011 20:17:32 | The Cramps were a fantastic band. I do not have Off the Bone, but I have most of their early studio albums and Smell of Female (live), one of my favourites. The Cramps are, by a wide margin, my favourte band of all time (with The Ramones running a close second). IMO the only currently touring band that comes close to their level of awesome is the incomparable Reverend Horton Heat. I do loves me some psychobilly! The only reason I didn't list a RHH album is I honestly can't pick a favourite one. In the vein of early Punk and Disorderly, I appreciate the Adicts- Songs of Praise and GBH- City Babies Revenge among others. Good options both. I've recently been digging on The Violators song "Gangland", which recounts the entire plot of the movie The Warriors. Iggy Pop- Raw Power Saw Iggy and the Stooges last summer with The Raveonettes opening. Awesome show. I love The Raveonettes and Iggy still rocks the house. BTW there's some good old Stooges proto-punk stuff in that iTunes P&D collection. |
| #18grehnheweFeb 24, 2011 21:07:05 | Reverend Horton Heat. I do loves me some psychobilly! The only reason I didn't list a RHH album is I honestly can't pick a favourite one...I've recently been digging on The Violators song "Gangland"...Saw Iggy and the Stooges last summer I need to listen to more RHH. Speaking of psychobilly I quite like The Gun Club- Fire of Love and Scratch Acid. Likes "Gangland"(had not heard it in a while), how about Anti-Nowhere League "Streets of London" or Angelic Upstarts "I'm an Upstart" I've never seen Iggy Henry Rollins does a great bit about him (and why he can't ever be topped!) |
| #19febbstalicious42Feb 24, 2011 21:33:00 | Justin Bieber's Somebody to Love. Cuz, you know, I obv obv love the Bieber. |
| #20febbstalicious42Feb 24, 2011 21:38:05 | My current favs right now are: |
| #21Ragnar_LodbrokFeb 24, 2011 21:40:04 | AC/DC's Back in Black. Iron Maiden's Brave New World. Has some of my favorite songs of theirs on it. Queen's It's a Kind of Magic. Has my two favorite songs of theirs on it, and is the soundtrack to Highlander. |
| #22iqwinnFeb 24, 2011 22:07:23 | Justin Bieber's Somebody to Love. Well, then, I guess you ought to...... (wait for it) LEAVE IT TO BIEBER! |
| #23ADHadhFeb 25, 2011 1:55:47 | My two absolute favourite albums would be "Sheer Heart Attack" by Queen and "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. the latter is mostly ballads, so may be less suitable for long trips with risk of drowsiness. Neither album has any bad language I can remember. Huh, I prefer "A Night at the Opera". But Queen doesn't seem to have had a bad album ![]() |
| #24QubeFeb 25, 2011 2:42:32 | I usually like numbers that make my blood flow a little faster... clasics like Sabotage - the beasy boys Joker and the thief - wolfmother mothern stuff like Bring me back to life - Evanessance the Mortal Kombat theme. Currently listening to Ignition. No idea from who it is. |
| #25EscefFeb 25, 2011 9:05:22 | Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti Dream Theater - Score (I'm not usually one for live albums, but this one is awesome.) Page & Plant - Unledded (First time I listened to this was lying awake in bed in the dead of the night with the headphones on. Great album.) It took me a bit to pick out my favorite Dream Theater album. I settled on Score because as a triple CD it packs the most music into one album. The other two were no brainers for me. As much as I have plenty of albums I love, those three stand head and shoulders above the rest. |
| #26The_SilverswordFeb 26, 2011 2:23:49 | Theres a lot of Good albums out there, Megadeth's Rust In Peace, Iron Maiden's Somewhere in Time, Tori Amos's Little Earthquakes, Overkill's The Years of Decay, Pink Floyd's The Wall But I think the best album EVER goes to The Door's Waiting For The Sun. Reallyu everyone should spend some time alone with that one, just sit back and listen to it, I mean really LISTEN to it! |
