Black Dragons, Royal Water and Pure Gold

Jul 19, 2011 0:39:48 I was looking about on the web on how pure my gold would be once I boil off the mercury it's saturated in and I noticed something called royal water which is a mix of Acids (Nitric and hydrochloric) with water which is then used to disolve gold into an absolute pure 99.99999% form. now if acid can be used to turn coin gold into gold as soft as butter should a Black Dragon be down its lair swimming in a pool of pure gold...to the point where the PCs wander in and take it, what is the value of pure gold as compared to the crap in coin form?

value? the same.
- Suppose a 1$ gold coin contains 1$ worth of pure gold, and otherwise crap
- if that coin gets disolved, and only the pure gold is extracted, the weight will be much less, but you would still have 1$ worth of gold.

However, as royal water, and gold disolved in royal water, is a liquid. Unless your dragon keeps it in a plastic container, his acid/gold will seep through cracks in the floor, and thus he will lose gold by having it desolved ...

And that is also in the off chance that a black dragon can disolve gold (although, game acid disolves in mear seconds, it's way more powerful then Real life acids, so that should not be a problem)

Jul 19, 2011 10:39:17 Gold and sulpheric acid don't react, so just say that's what the dragon's breathing.

Or, consider this: Before the dragon puts the gold into the pool of acid, it coats them in its saliva, which provides protection against the acid, which would otherwise dissolve the gold. Thus, your players have to figure out how to get the gold out of the pool.
