I live in Mobile, AL. I was wanting a new phone, preferably a smart phone with cheap but reliable internet service. I saw that boost is $60 a month which includes the net. I've heard that it gets terrible signal service in neighboring baldwin county, especially out in the sticks. Does anyone here have personal experience with it? How about in the Mobile area? It works surprisingly well out on the water which is what first drew me to it as an option.

I have a friend who has boost. He has excellent service. Isn't boost part of sprint? I think they are sprint's version of metro pcs. Like all carriers, there will be areas where your coverage may be better than in orther areas.

Well if everything comes last to Alabama I guess we're going to be popular when the apocalypse comes. Think about, they blow up the East and West coasts all the time in movies, but nothing super bad ever comes here, lol. So I guess it's not so bad in Alabam .

My wife went with Verizon and I will look more into boost. Getting mixed reviews for my specific area.

Wow, ok, isn't that a bit extreme? Saying that Alabama deserves to wiped off the map? That's like saying New York deserved 911 or that Haiti and Japan deserved their natural disasters. It's pretty **** of someone, especially in this day and time when bad things are happening all over, to which harm on anyone. Of course for this to make you feel bad you would might have to mature just a little. Just think, you could be very next one struck down with disaster and need the kindness of all of America to get back on your feet again, if, say, you weren't killed out right in said tragedy.

As it is with immature trolls trying to strike up jokes and jollies, you guys are sort of helping me out. This thread will keep floating up to the top and maybe someone with enough brain cells to rub together will see this and post their personal experience about how well, or not Boost works in the Mobile are.

I'd rather you not make idiotic comments, but that's like asking water to not be wet.

I dunno. I'm of the mindset that if the South tried to secede again, so long as they didn't fire on us first (like they did last time), I'd be content to let them go.

Tee hee.

Anyhoo, I'm with Escef.  If they ever decide they wanna go again, they can go right ahead.  I'm tired of them embarrassing the rest of us.  Ever seen that Top Gear where they went to the South and bought cheap-o cars?  They painted stupid stuff on the sides like 'NASCAR Sucks' and 'Hillary for President' and they were literally attacked over it.  I'm no NASCAR fan, but I hate Hil-dog a lot more.  Still, I wouldn't be compelled to threaten violence and throw rocks at some Brits filming a TV show were I to see that on the cars they were driving.  My response when I saw it on the TV (that thing with the moving pictures on it.  sometimes even in color)?  I laughed at how sterotypically, stupidly intolerant it all was.  And then I remembered that some people, unfortunately, only see that part of the country when they come here.  Others only see what the TV (that picture box, again) shows them.  And these moronic hicks make us all look like idiots.  So yeah, if the South wants out, I'll help 'em pack.  ;)

Oh, the state where the Top Gear folks were attacked for the stuff painted on their cars?  That would be Alabama.

Saying that blowing up Alabama would be an improvement is saying that the land and by proxy the people on it don't deserve to exist. I mean, do you think everyone would orderly leave while the state is being blown up/ terror attacked/ struck with natural disasters/ wiped off the map by any means necessary because it would be an improvement/ deserving because they couldn't be 'better?' Yeah, I do have great comprehension skills, actually rated as a genius with a 4.0 college degree. So you should think about the full extent of your statements, especially offensive and inflammatory ones even if you don't think the people you are insulting are worthy of your consideration.

All you ever see of New York is gangsters, thugs and a general populace ready to loot and kill any of the unsuspecting. I know better because I've been there. I've been on Broadway and seen the plays (like a TV, but with living people). I've been to Times Square and everywhere else up there that gives you warm fuzzies whenever you think of the state. I don't let my perceptions to be tainted by what other fools deem worthy of exploiting. You can find anything you look for. If you come down here looking for moronic, bigoted people, then you'll find them.

So go ahead and make your generic slander attacks on a group of people based on (loosely) 'what they are' /prejudice and stay out of the South. We'll be better off without you and thank you kindly for it.

Maybe this is a case of Asperger syndrome. Smarts but no sense of humor.

No just making people see what they say for what it is. Just becasue they are on the net they think they can spew stupidty and interlorance whereever they please with no harm. That's the kind of thing that makes people go on shooting sprees and then everyone else is wondering what happened. Where terrorists are being home grown I'd rather not get a bunch of people the idea that a part of our country is 'worthy' of being blown up. It was just a foolish, off handed remark, and I'd just like him to see it and say as much. For anyone on here 'bama'-bashing. Like we're a different species or something. We're all the same people. You know idiots and morons where you live, too. And if you don't I'm sure someone you know does .

Again, this was just a post asking if anyone had personal experience using boost in Mobile. Trying to consider whether or not its a good move before I commit my financial resources.

Maybe part of the problem is that you're asking a very region-specific, non-gaming question on a multinational (that's nations, not just states) gaming website.  I mean, we have posters here from Belgium, Poland, Quebec, etc.  I believe we have one from Mobile.  I also think you know him.  I mean, what kind of answers did you expect?  Did you really think you'd find a varied sample of Boost Mobile havin' gamers that also happened to live in Mobile, AL on WotC's D&D forums?  Really?

You'd think a 4.0 scorin' genius would have been able to determine a more rational and effective course of action.  Say, something like going to various local cell phone providers and polling people that actually use that specific service in that specific area about the company, coverage and their satisfaction.  Something that, I dunno, could maybe yield information much, much more likely to come from the desired - and very specific - demographic?  Hell, you could find more usable information more easily at a local bar than you can here.  And a simple scan of activity here would have shown that maybe a dozen people post here at all (and that's generous).  So yeah, it's a silly request that makes no sense whatsoever when examined and it's, IMO, no wonder that people responded in a less than helpful way.  It may not be cool, but that's the intertoobz for ya.  But a 4.0 scorin' genius would know something like that already, wouldn't he.  ;)

Anyhoo, I know I'm bein' a big ol' meany head right now and I'm sorta sorry.  But when ya look at something stupid and post a joke and are then attacked for it, it makes it kinda hard to sympathise with the guy beatin' ya about the noggin' for tryin' to be funny when it's impossible for ya to be helpful cuz ya don't fit the very specific criteria required for being so.  And it's even harder when the guy decides to become a braggart and tout his superior intellect (which is hard to believe when looking at the whole picture - as in how awful an idea it was to seek answers here (as explained above)) while chastising another poster in an attempt to 'make him see' whatever.  Cuz that's just annoying.  So, I'm sorry I couldn't contain my disdain any longer.  Or something.

I came to the open forums where any topic is allowed. I've posted on multiple websites and communities just to see if I could get some help. I see no wrong that I've done. I didn't brag about my intellect, you brought more in your post than I did. The intelligence of all people of Alabama was attacked and I merely showed them of one example that proves them wrong.

To just say random stupid things and call it a joke does not make it a joke. A joke has a setup, a body and a punch line. None of this is present in anything posted here. There isn't even a 'witty' play off of words. Just a guy going 'You guys suck and we're kewl!' People allow such stupid things to happen again and again under the guise of annomity when it's really not tolerable.

In my opinion, Rpgers, especially the ones that roleplay, are some of the smartest people around. I would respect their opinions. I have no love for alchol or bars and that's hardly the 'scene' I would go to for intelligent opinions on cell phone coverage. Who cares is you're from another part of the country or world? Just move on to another post where you might have something relevant to say, or actually make a decent joke. I can see that from your response you do have a brain. Just use more responsibly.

You didn't do anything wrong and I never said that you did.  You also most certainly did brag about your intellect as it was you that told us about your 4.0 college career and the testing that labeled you a genius.  I also mentioned a bar as one example of a place where you could have garnered more useful information more easily.  If bars aren't your cup of tea, you could also try any local library, McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Piggly Wiggly, auto repair garage, coffee shop, etc, etc, god I hope you get the point now.  Here?  Not. A. Good. Place. To. Find. Region. Specific. Information. As. This. Place. Is. Not. Comprised. Of. Individuals. From. Any. One. Location. Let. Alone. The. Specific. One. You. Inquired. About.

Now for my 'joke'.  Admittedly it was weak-sauce, but it was still a joke.  I will now attempt to explain: The South, as it were, is frequently joked about - in an obviously less than serious way that's in no way an actual representation of how any individual with the capability of rational thought thinks - as somewhat 'behind' the rest of the, well, free world aside from third world countries.  As such, the statement of surprise that the South had cell phones was a joke in this vein.  In other words, it plays upon the obviously false stereotype and can't possibly be taken seriously.  It can, obviously as well, be taken personally, however.  That, though, is not on me.

Because the offended party becomes, well, offended, and then you have to deal with the fall out, which is this.

Too bad about Escef. He blocked me for some reason when he had nothing to do with the conversation about respecting others, or the cverage of boost Mobile. I do respect his service to US, though, and wish him many happy trails.

I think I've made my point, which is I think that the internet community should come together as whole and hedge out those that just spread intolerance and flame randomly. The net shouldn't be ruled by children whose parents couldn't find a sitter.

This is genius level disrespect right here.  '2nd grade, couldn't find a sitter' - damn.  How can we possibly compete with that?

I don't know what kind of intolerant people you hang out with, but the people I know regularly make off color jokes about one another in mixed company.  One of our longest running group gags, for example, is to purposefully mischaracterize our Columbian born (he's half) friend's ethnic background.  He looks Asian so we've got those jokes.  Sometimes we'll even call him an Eskimo.  And he laughs and fights right back.  He also likes to tell the guys he works with racist jokes.  Black jokes to black guys.  Yep.  So, as I said, it appears you know a lot of intolerant people.  What would really make the world better is if we all took ourselves less seriously.  You're not important.  Nowhere near as important as you seem to think you are - genius, 4.0 scorer or not.  Neither, of course, am I.  The difference is that I understand that and, therefore, can live a much, much happier life.  You should, like, totally, like, try it.  ;)

Some facts about Alabama:

In the top 10 states in the country for highest divorce rate. www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0923080.html
In the top 10 states in the country for highest poverty rate. www.statemaster.com/graph/eco_per_bel_po...
In the bottom 10 states in the country for having a high school diploma or better education. www.statemaster.com/graph/edu_hig_sch_di...
The 12th highest rate in the country for teen motherhood. www.statemaster.com/graph/hea_tee_bir_ra...
The 13th lowest literacy rate. nces.ed.gov/naal/estimates/StateEstimate...
One of the lowest unemployment rates in the country (don't ask me how they pulled this off). www.statemaster.com/graph/eco_une_rat-ec...

So, after pulling together some data really quick, the conclusion is that the population of Alabama as a whole is poor, uneducated, and a social mess. But there are worse out there in all of these areas. And despite all these shortcomings, there is plenty of work to be found there.

That and I can think of at least one good thing to say about Alabama: it isn't Texas.

With all the illiterate, High School drop out teen moms, is it really that shocking?  Nobody there is qualified to do anything and nobody with any sort of education wants to go there.
