Any other fans of the sweet science?

My personal favorite boxer is Emanuel Augustus (Burton). Every match he's in is turns into a slugfest, and his fight with Micky Ward is being called the Fight of the Decade, sometimes even Fight of the Century.

I used to be really, really into boxing. Then I discovered MMA. To me, it's more exciting and requires a greater level of overall skill. Don't get me wrong, boxing requires an immense amount of dedication and talent, too, but it's still only one aspect of what MMA is. Boxers do have the best hands in the fight game, though.

I think the reason I drifted to MMA was that, as a martial artist, I was always a bit frustrated when watching Boxing matches. It seems silly to only punch your opponent when the human body has so many other weapons at its disposal. It's still a great sport and I have tremendous respect for the guys that put the gloves on and punch it out, but it's just not nearly as entertaining (to me) as MMA.

Not so much into the watching of boxing but it is great for your fitness.
Nothing gets your heart rate up like slamin' into the bag and a couple of burpies.
It's also very practical self defence if your fit.

I prefer MMA. It seems to me like in modern boxing everyone is just trying to score points with little punches rather than looking for openjings to drop bombs and actually "beat" their opponent rather than have a judge call them the winner. I like MMA's scoring system better, but I still violently disagree with decisions a lot. I think a lot of judges lean towards more established fighters.

The Hand of Vecna in a boxing thread? How appropriate. A punch by Vecna's Hand would be a sight to behold.

As soon as I get the time in money, I intend to start. I actually have a really good frame, and looking at some of the other men in my family, I could put on some real muscle.

And MMA is cool, but boxing gets me much more excited. Maybe it's the history, or maybe it's the fact that you actually have to beat your opponent to the ground (instead of knocking them down and beating them ON the ground). :D

Hey now, guys get knocked out on their feet all the time! :P They also get submitted, submit from strikes, get knocked out on the ground, get saved by the ref, get knocked out by a slam, etc. ;) To me, that makes it more exciting. So much variety. It's not just points and the occasional KO. If a guy's got a granite chin in a boxing match, he's probably going to last 'till the end. If a guy's got the same chin in an MMA match, that only potentially saves him from one way to lose. There is still something to be said about the technical aspects of a boxing match, of course. With only one option, you've got to be pretty creative to win (or not lose). There's plenty of technical fighting in MMA, but since boxing places the focus on the only thing it's got, it's heightened in that one area. So it's entertaining. Kind of like watching a great pitcher against a great hitter. It's technical and that's what makes it so fun to see. :D

And I've seen several MMA matches where they don't ever go to the ground.

I was about to say that, actually. It's like music, or painting - placing a limit on yourself on something is a good way to jumpstart creativity.

But yeah, MMA is pretty exciting. I tend to watch foreign MMA, because you get an even wider variety.
