| #1mach1_9pantsFeb 04, 2009 0:58:37 | Hi all I have been unable to get to ENW for about a week or ten days. Just get a blank page or network error. Anybody else having this problem? For a couple of weeks before that it was really slow. So is it just the fact that I am on the other side of the world to them or are ENW down? M1.9P Ps. Yes I know ENW is entirely another site but it is still a big part of the DnD/RPG community ![]() |

| #3mach1_9pantsFeb 04, 2009 2:14:51 | Thanks for that, I have been trying heaps of different forums there (I have them all bookmarked) but no joy. But I am not the only one! This may work for others with this problem and has for me: "Anybody who's having a problem (on a Windows box) should be able to fix it temporarily by doing this: Open C:WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts in notepad Add the following lines to the end of that file: 68.68.204.19 www.enworld.org 68.68.204.19 www.circvsmaximvs.com This will override your DNS server, and force your computer to go to the right IP address when you visit those sites." |
| #4mkillFeb 04, 2009 5:50:56 | Overriding the DNS didn't help, I get the same network timeouts when I try to access the IP. The weird part is that I can access the site easily from work, where there is a fat pipe behind, but at home I hardly ever get a connection. In fact, just today was the first time it worked at all, and even then just a few pages. My ISP is Softbank Yahoo BB (Japan). I have several pet theories: a) the IP or domain got on some blacklist and doesn't quite come off b) the site is overloaded when I'm home (8 pm Japan time) but has almost noone accessing when I'm at work (12 am Japan time). c) some ISPs are more patient with high-latency sites than others. The forums are on a slow server, and some router on the way is very quick to throw a network timeout when he doesn't reach the site fast enough. My Internet connection is pretty good, and I've never had problems with any other site, it's only enworld that I can hardly ever reach. So the problem must be on their side. |
| #5kerym_ammathFeb 04, 2009 9:14:00 | Enworld has always been a slow site for me, and recently I can barely get to it. I have a high speed connection, and it is the only site I have any problems with. Pretty sure its on their end. |
| #6mircolesFeb 04, 2009 9:34:41 | I haven't been able to get to it for the past few days. My connection is fine, but no ENworld. |
| #7VerysArkonFeb 04, 2009 9:43:27 | Same here, glad I'm not the only one. Verys |
| #8cottonmatherFeb 04, 2009 9:51:26 | Same here. This is like the third time this has happened in the past six months. |
| #9mach1_9pantsFeb 04, 2009 13:00:34 | Yeah it is def ENW prob. I got on last night NZ time (GMT+13 at the moment, I think) and posted a few. I can get on now as well, 8am NZ. So hopefully it is fixed... Hey Verys where's your gnome avatar! ;) |
| #10Aaron_HighcolorFeb 04, 2009 14:03:07 | Yep, was just there! |
| #11VerysArkonFeb 04, 2009 15:57:59 | EN World seems back up for me too (crosses fingers) OT @ Mach1: could never figure out how to load up a custom avatar here so they'd be the same on both sites, so I've been going without it here. But since you noticed (and I'm amazed anyone recognized me on either board!), I'll use this one of the interviewer (who is apparently called 'Mike', at least by its filename. Wonder if it is a passing similarity to Mr. Mearls?!?). |
| #12celloshaneFeb 05, 2009 10:28:20 | EN World seems back up for me too (crosses fingers) The forums seem to be working for me at the moment as well. FYI you can't upload personal avatars here. When you see one the user has likely gotten it as a reward, UNCon prizes are the most common way to get one. |
