| #9cool_dude1010Sep 03, 2008 14:37:24 | Canada hasn't done anything for me. |
| #10AlasSep 03, 2008 14:40:47 | Canada hasn't done anything for me. Canada has faith in your ability to DIY. |
| #11Horus_SungodSep 03, 2008 15:48:15 | A near-infinite amount of poutine with smoked meat and sausage, 'barnak! College that costs about 2-3000 dollars per year. Large reserves of drinkable water (wait 20 years, it'll matter) No poisonous animals. I don't have to worry about snakes and scorpions if I go outside a city. No wars either. And low enemployement. Comme on dit: le trouble est frilleux! (translates to: trouble doesn't like cold) |
| #12That_Blasted_SomoflangeSep 03, 2008 19:22:26 | I'm not from Canada - I'm American - but I'll play, too. You mean some of you yanks can actually find Canada on a map?:P How about almost every sci-fi world on television, not to mention television in general. How much of various parts of Canada can be seen on your weekly television. |
| #13doomsoughtSep 03, 2008 20:29:46 | Free medicine! (after 7D100 days) and Moose there are also gold mines. and the best gold purifiers. |
| #14zombie_babiesSep 04, 2008 10:15:25 | You mean some of you yanks can actually find Canada on a map?:P Hey! Not all of us are "Stupid Americans". Most, sure. But not all of us! ;) How about almost every sci-fi world on television, not to mention television in general. How much of various parts of Canada can be seen on your weekly television. Good point. Some great TV, that. |
| #15_jayne_cobb_Sep 04, 2008 10:15:53 | Canada hasn't done anything for me. You haven't earned the right to get anything from Canada. |

| #18nowiwantmydmgSep 05, 2008 10:05:09 | College that costs about 2-3000 dollars per year. College is more like 4-6000 + books + dorm/housing arrangements so more like 12000+ per year and more if you want to go to a university. Although yes tuition itself is much less than in the US because 80%+ is government subsidized for citizens. And the Water is mine. Hands off. But everyone is forgetting the best thing..........Polar Bears sweet delicious Polar Bears . |
| #19Horus_SungodSep 05, 2008 22:38:19 | The Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, the Brown Recluse, and the Black Widow may all be found in Canada. Pfff. I live in snow. Nothing's poisonous up there (apart from the aformentionnend poutine) |
| #20dispaminiteSep 06, 2008 15:29:48 | Canada? |
| #21ADHadhSep 06, 2008 16:36:59 | Canada? I don't even know what street Canada is on. Exactly. By the way, have you noticed the sudden rise of Canadian threads in the Tavern? |
| #22ChrisTheSSep 06, 2008 17:04:47 | Easy to immigrate to. At least if you've got a Canadian willing to marry you. However, for every plus there's a minus, and mine is Edmonton. Hatehatehatehatehate Edmonton. Want to go back to the coast, where it rains 360 days a year like a decent climate. Tired of getting freeze-dried in winter and boiled to death in summer. I miss the PNW... oh, such rain we had, it was delicious. |
| #23dispaminiteSep 06, 2008 22:31:49 | Isn't Canada a private golf club? |
| #24darkraven18599Sep 07, 2008 18:37:05 | Isn't Canada a private golf club? Yep. Yankees ain't invited. ![]() |

| #26darkraven18599Sep 08, 2008 14:52:22 | As long as your don't take any goverment money, Canadia can be a private club. pffft... Keep yer money. It's damned near useless nowadays anyways. |
| #27dispaminiteSep 08, 2008 15:08:11 | pffft... Like Canadia's military ![]() |
| #28darkraven18599Sep 08, 2008 15:10:38 | Like Canadia's military Or American respect overseas. |
| #29dispaminiteSep 08, 2008 15:12:16 | Or American respect overseas. Or Canadia's Artistic Endevours. |
| #30darkraven18599Sep 08, 2008 15:21:26 | Or Canadia's Artistic Endevours. Yer nuts. That one doesn't even make sense. However given the US's educational woes, I'll just chalk your lack of knowledge up to that. ![]() |
| #31batshidoSep 08, 2008 15:21:28 | Or Canadia's Artistic Endevours. I had a buddy take "Canadian Culture" as an elective in college. To this day, he still hasn't revealed anything from the class. I'm starting to think he just showed up, sat down and stared at a blank blackboard for two hours a week. |
| #32dispaminiteSep 08, 2008 15:29:01 | Yer nuts. That one doesn't even make sense. Two Words. Celine Dion. |

| #34darkraven18599Sep 08, 2008 15:54:54 | Let me help you. Ice Hockey and Ice Fishing. Thats what Canadian Culture consists of. No, we fish when the ice is gone too. And in the summer we play lacrosse. ![]() As for Celine Dion, well, we've apologized for her in the past. But I still haven't heard an "I'm sorry" for Wayne Newton... I mean, come on. |
| #35dispaminiteSep 08, 2008 16:17:27 | No, we fish when the ice is gone too. And in the summer we play lacrosse. Wayne Newton is a Vegas Icon, like broken kneecaps, and desert burials. You can't be dissin' the Newt. |
| #36darkraven18599Sep 08, 2008 19:14:42 | Wayne Newton is a Vegas Icon, like broken kneecaps, and desert burials. You can't be dissin' the Newt. Wayne Newton blows chunks. (And before anyone says anything about that crappy joke where your dogs name is Chunks, let's just get that outta the way.) |
| #37nowiwantmydmgSep 09, 2008 11:38:26 | Let me help you. Ice Hockey and Ice Fishing. Thats what Canadian Culture consists of. You forgot REAL Beer. |
| #38zombie_babiesSep 09, 2008 11:41:25 | You forgot REAL Beer. You mean like Guiness, right? ;) Canadia makes gods awful beer. Molson, Labatt. Skunky as hell. They do, however, make several passable whiskies. CC and Crown are good. I'd still rather have Jameson's, though. :D |
| #39nowiwantmydmgSep 09, 2008 12:23:00 | You mean like Guiness, right? ;) Canadia makes gods awful beer. Molson, Labatt. No, Molson and Labatt taste (figuritively speaking) like ****. The Big Two Breweries (Molson/Coors & Budweiser) in North America make very poor beer. Guiness is australian I think and some might like it, but that's nasty stuff, not to mention the recommended drinking temperature=warm. Smaller Breweries like: Big Rock, Sleeman, Maverick and Keith's all make good stuff though. I said real beer because american beer seems to be usually under 5%. |
| #40_jayne_cobb_Sep 09, 2008 12:31:19 | Guiness is australian I think ![]() ![]() |
| #41ChrisTheSSep 09, 2008 12:58:53 | My inlaws drink Kokanee. I, however, cannot comment on its relative quality because I think that all beer is disgusting. |
| #42darkraven18599Sep 09, 2008 12:59:22 | Guiness is australian I think Epic fail ![]() |
| #43zombie_babiesSep 09, 2008 13:01:47 | No, Molson and Labatt taste (figuritively speaking) like ****. The Big Two Breweries (Molson/Coors & Budweiser) in North America make very poor beer. Guinness is Irish, friend. It was first brewed in 1759. And it is the definition of "real beer". ;) The bit about it being served warm is correct, though. Well, it used to be anyway. Guinness itself has come over to the dark side and now suggests that it is best served cold. Too many morons trying to drink it after being used to inferior products, I guess. I still let mine get good and room temp before fully diving in, though. Molson is the Canadian division of Coors. And it sucks. American beers are generally found to be at a little over 5%. We had some hold-over idiocy left from temperence legislation that prevented us from having stronger beers. Ohio, where I live, overturned that BS a few years ago. Whoever got the idea that beer over 5% was too strong but Bourbon at 50% (mmmm ... Knob Creek) was A-OK is my definition of "winner". At any rate, our large beer companies (Busch, Miller, etc) do produce inferior, watery flavored products for the most part. The new "specialty beer" craze started by the micro-brewers has lead to some improvement, but not enough overall. I must agree that the "average" American beer is sub-par at best and pi$$ in a can at worst (see Milwaukee's Best). We do have some incredible microbrews, though. Great Lakes Brewing Co is phenomenal. They have a varied range of style and, since you seem to be concerned with potency, stronger beers overall. Sierra Nevada makes one of my favorite beers, too. Their Pale Ale is simply awesome. The rest of their line is also quite good. There's some others I know of from North Carolina and Pennsylvania, too. So we do have "real beers", too. And it seems that Canadia has some as well. Thanks for listing the beers you enjoy. Next time I'm up your way I'll do my best to remember 'em and give one (ok, not just one ;)) a taste. I had a stripper in my lap once while I was wearing a Guinness shirt written in the olde style. She actually asked me if I got it in Germany. I told her it came with my hat. Good times. :D EDIT: That reminds me! Warsteiner is also, IMNSHO, one of the greatest beers available for human consumption. Especially the Dark. Hmm. It seems I know a bit about beer (and, mayhap, more about the hard stuff). It's a wonder I still only weight about 163 lbs. |
| #44darkraven18599Sep 09, 2008 13:06:52 | Once again we see the failure of an American educational system that cannot teach it's people correct spelling and pronunciation. It's Canada people, not Canadia. That's like saying you're Americians. You can get your digs in, but do them respectfully. Just because we're ribbing doesn't mean we have to be ignorant. |

Ignorant? After that rousing and highly informative post about beer? IIRC it was a Canuk that got the idea that Guinness was an Aussie beverage. Ignorant. Indeed! ;) Canadia is just what we call ya'all up there. It's harmless ribbing. I actually like Canada, myself. No offense was meant. And I hope none taken. I have a feeling that this part of my post is not needed, but ya' can't be too careful these days. |

Ignorant. Indeed! ;) Nah. It's just that, like yourself, I take a fairly great deal of pride in my country. And it bugs me somewhat to see it intentionally misspelled like that. Personally I love the States, have family there and have enjoyed every trip I've taken down there. And while I like to kid and rib as much as the next guy, I wouldn't think of slandering the name by screwing around with the spelling intentionally. Seeing your countries name screwed up is sort of like seeing someone painting your flag. It just don't seem right. |

I honestly - in this context (a jokey thread) - would not be bothered by something like that. I may act bothered in jest, but that would be about it. It is just a silly dig and nothing more. It's not meant to disparage Canadians one bit. Hopefully this explains it a bit. Again, no offense meant. Now, if you don't mind, let's get back to our international pi$$ing contest. :D |

So for us we have superior hockey, ice fishing, natural resources, water reserves, beer (cough, cough), and international relations/image. You guys down there have superior football/basketball (but who really cares about basketball?), deep sea fishing, tourist attrations/theme parks, deserts, beer (cough, cough), and military. Man, I can't wait to see what someone in Germany thinks of all these beer claims. (Especially since they just bought Bud...) |
| #49_jayne_cobb_Sep 09, 2008 13:42:02 | The "Canadian beer is better" thin only extends to factory beers. While Canadian factory beer is indeed better, it is still factory beer and thus crap. Small/micro brew beats factory beer hand-down, and it is unique to each brewer and entirely distinct from nationality. I'll take a nice US-brewed Sam Adams over a local Labatts or Molsons product in a heartbeat. |
| #50darkraven18599Sep 09, 2008 14:20:01 | Once I move back out to the west coast I'll start using the microbreweries near my new place to brew my own. There are a couple in Qualicum that will brew the one you want after you select and purchase your own ingredients. B.C. tobacco,home-brewed beer and semi-retirement. Lord I can't wait. |

Living easy here I come! Bought for $156K 6 years ago, just sold tonight for $440K! And the ex wife was dumb enough to sign away all her rights to it 3 years ago in the divorce! MWHA HAHAHAHAHA :evillaugh Look me up sometime Zombie, I'll keep a cold beer and a tasty "cigarette" ready for ya. Woot! |

I told her it came with my hat. Good times. :D My dear old mum was trying to buy me a couple T-shirts for a birthday a few years back. She asked me if there was anything I might actually wear. I told her anything was good, but make sure they were dark colors because Guiness stains are a nightmare to get out. She turned up a week later with 13 guiness t-shirts in brown, black, dark blue and dark gray. Cheers mum. And the proper temperature to drink it at is cellar temperature, not room temperature. Figure that somewhere between 50 and 65 fahrenheit. Not ice cold, but certainly not warm. |
