| #1ace_of_timeSep 14, 2009 23:01:54 | OK here is the deal. We decided not to start the new 4e game till my sisters boyfriend moves down here from another state some time in the first of 2010. So we have been play the WOD vamp game. The problem is we can't find a cheap way to get 10 sided dice. We have been using % dice right now. I have been thinking about it for a while and I have come up with something I think might work. I was think of using poker cards. I got two decks and took out Js, Qs, and Ks of all suits. We are going to use Aces as ones. The only problem is that I want to makes sure that the odds would be the same for both rolls and cards. So what do you think. Is there a big difference in the odds? Would I need to take out some of the number cards to make the odds right? Right now there is 8 of each number for 80 cards total. Also has anyone tried this and how did it work out? Thanks for the thoughts ahead of time peps. |

| #3ace_of_timeSep 14, 2009 23:16:19 | We have been doing that too but it still isn't enough. It give us about 5 each and some of the dice pools have 7+ in them. With try to share but no one but me really wants to do that much. Luckily we are all family so we trust people more then most groups do. Most wouldn't think of letting another even touch their dice. I was going to try it next time we play and see how it goes. I was thinking if it works well maybe adding the Jokers in for a few aces and make those crit failures. |

With cards you'll only get that if you reshuffle the "rolled" cards back into the deck on every "roll", otherwise the distribution would skew on subsequent rolls. This could potentially mean a lot of shuffling, depending on how many dice rolls you need. But yeah, percentile dice are d10s. |

| #6zombie_babiesSep 15, 2009 9:14:53 | I know they used to sell tubes of 10 siders at every game shop I went to. They sold blocks of 6 siders and the tubes. I'd imagine you could find them online someplace other than the link I provided, too. Here's a link to Chessex.I clicked on the first one. They have more colors. $7 for a set of 10 d10s. They also have single dice ranging in price from $.50 to $1.50. You can mix and match. While likely more expensive than a couple decks of cards (which you likely already have), it's still pretty cheap. And they're dice. Dice, man. You can roll 'em. And you can even make 'em go all clackety-clackety in your hands, too. Far, far superior to cards. We're talkin' about dice, man! |

Just a nuisance thing. When you need to roll seven or eight dice and you have to re-shuffle after each dice, you're shuffling that deck six or seven times just to finish one batch of rolls. Much easier to just roll the dice and re-roll a few of 'em I think. |

Also, if anyone has an iPod Touch or iPhone, there's a great app called Dicenomicon. |
| #9ace_of_timeSep 15, 2009 14:02:11 | I'm not going to make them change if they don't want to. Their choice not mine. But If I switch it would free up 7 dice for the others to split. As for the each roll. We roll the whole dice pool at once so each card draw would be one die roll. That is why I set out to use 80 cards.
EX: I have to roll I dice pool of six die. So I deal 6 cards to me from my deck. One card per dice. Then look at them. If I have a ten I could draw/roll another card as normal. Then after This roll was resolved I would shuffle and mix cards to ready for the next dice pool.
I was hoping the more cards in the deck the less the odds on the drawing numbers that didn't already get drawn would go down. I love math but I'm not good at this kind of odds math.
Note: Was thinking about getting the pound of dice. Because we do play D&D too and then they can pick their own out. Ordering requires shipping and handling and you can get $1.00 pack of porker cards at the store on the corner. |
