I got a scanner for my birthday, so I'll be able to post a couple of my drawings pretty soon. Once I get the damn thing set up.
I drew portraits of all the characters in our current campaign.
The first on is Haru an Eladrin rogue. He is somewhat unstable and loves to wreak havoc.
Next we have my character Liv. She is a half elf paladin of the Raven Queen. She was sworn to serve the goddess since before she was born.
Aeron is a human infernal pact warlock he is the typical trigger happy selfcentered ambitious bastard.
Skugga is a human rogue. She was trained from childhood to be a spy and an assassin, now she tries to find a new life for herself and get even with her past. She is cheeky but nice.
Glim (currently Glum) is an Eladrin ranger. He is sharing his body with an ancient scholar who wants to bring back seven demon lords to the world. He is usualy trustworthy and resonable.
Olaf is a human fighter. He is currently retired from the party and is now the captain of the hird of one of the local jarls. Olaf is reliable and honest and Liv miss him sorely.

Like everything I do, I called you "chicklet" because it amused me, little poppet.
And I was saying that I have probably about 5 or so pics just of D&D charactesr I've actually played, another few that were vaguely associated with D&D and were RPed (that is, they were roleplayed) but never played in an actual D&D game. I also have concepts art for D&D characters I never played or roleplayed, character art for RPG characters from other systems I've played, character art for other RPG games I planned and thought about but never played, as well as a whole cubic ass-ton of art of characters that aren't actually from any RPG.

Thanks I feel a bit bashful by all the praise. You are absolutely right though. I should get to work instead of hangin on forums. I need to make better pictures for my portfolio so that someone would hire me.

Sure you should! If you have lots maybe you should start with D&D characters that you have played and then just continue with the pictures that you like best.
Here's a crappy one I drew a few years ago back when I thought I could color things by hand with marker.
Mir, a changeling chameleon (yes, that was the name of her prestige class). She could be anyone and anything, just about any class. And occasionally when her spells ran out she would pull out a great sword and sneak attack with it. Real fun character, though the campaign wasn't suited to a character with her breadth of abilities as opposed to the depth of other characters. This is also back when I was foolishly trying to make my characters "sexy". I imagine all that's holding that top up is faith and hope.
Here's a portrait of Benjamin B. Wyrd and his husband who I don't think I ever actually named. He was a cleric of Ioun. Last I checked his party was still outside a cave. Though I intended him to be a "nice guy", he ended up being pretty snarky, but only when speaking in giant (none of the other characters could speak giant). When speaking common he was always polite.
Here's a character portrait I did for dirtyfrank, a wizard that had an unhealthy fascination with being close to the enemies. Kinda like a moth being sexually attracted to fire, I suppose...
Here's Zekiel, deva druid. Tended to be rather unsympathetic to the plights of others, while doing the right thing for no clearly identified reason. Spent a lot of time lounging around as a cat. Once tried to kill TA's character in a dream. Might be easy to push over on account of those shoes.
And... uh... I don't actually remember the details of this one. I think it was a disguise my character at the time was using, but I really don't know for sure.
Won't drop the full image (it's huge), but I have a sketch dump that includes a fem dwarf I was playing in a run through of Keep on the Shadowfell. The group laughed at all the character art being male, so we used a marker to give the dwarf lipstick and then I drew the fem dwarf you see in this sketches. [link] I also drew that weird thing at the very bottom during one of our sessions. I think I was slightly drunk at the time. I swear all I was on was a few shots of coconut rum in my Dr. Pepper.
Oh, and this sketh dump includes a few alternate interprettations of Ben B. Wyrd, after I got back form seeing Wicked. I really liked the asymmetric outfits the extras wore in that production. [link]
Anyway, I think that's all the D&D art specific to characters I've played or seen played. There's a few more D&D-related things in my galery (including a mind flayer trying to eat the world), but you can find that if you want.

Actually I'm with Idhriniel on this one, while teenager can be annoyingly narcissistic I remember that I hated it when people (escpecially older men) called me things like chicky and little girl or whatever. Its not very nice to assume that people younger than you doesnt know anything.

Its not the kind of fantasy style that I prefer but he outfit is stylish.

1) Tiny hands; sorry, I was really ripped (different time 
) when I made this back in Jr. year of college ('97-'98). Wasn't allowed to erase as part of exercise either, hence my love of pen/ink (unforgiving, makes you "tough" so to speak). 2) Medieval...yeah, Art History, Life Drawing, coupled w/ extensive 2nd ed Ravenloft kinda' pushed that end. 3) A lot of my portfolio didn't survive a housefire years ago, is framed and therefore un-scannable, sold off, given away as last minute presents (college = poor), or was stolen as well. Some of it I don't even own the rights to anymore. Nothing like having your ass handed to you for posting your own creation for 3rd parties when another 3rd party conveniently finds ire w/ it (the posting, I mean).

A lot of the female imagery would do wonders over in Astrid's; there's a lot of big talk over there pro/con, but given we've seen the fiber of your fabric now in your art, I'd say you bridged the gap nicely (lept way the f' over it). The RavenQueen bit, though stylized a Hell of a lot, still comes off as incredibly realistic/commanding. My fav.
I would've replied sooner, but I was checking your website as well. Again, impressed. The calendar was particularly bold/sensual, but not sleezy. I like that.

It's hard to stop a train and old habbits die hard...plus insert whatever random cliché that might round out this awkward confession about our mutual field of study, envy of your's, and doggie chew toys.
As for your husband, I can't believe his audacity! He's been living high on the hog for far too long and it's time to share the wealth. Plus, in this economy, help a brotha' out...Besides, I saw those pics of the happy couple. Well, like Jenny Craig, I have before and after shots of my enlightened subjects, and none had the gall to dare ask for compensation for something as paltry as "pain and suffering". You Scandanavians, always thinking about yourselves w/ your efficient cars, mass-produced furniture, & over abundance of electronica & heavy metal music. Must be the Viking ancestry. Gotta' pay the piper for all that past bloodshed, pillaging & looting, and he's come to collect in no uncertain terms. But, I'm a merchant of sorts and my terms are simple. Should he actually require payment for "services rendered", I will overlook his impropriety despite the great pains I'm taking to alleviate this gross aberration of artistic prowess (that means you).
Or he can simply buy me a beer and find me a new place to live. Take it or leave it.

They run the gamut of child-like antennae to Machiavellian pseudo pods (that can conveniently type 55 wpm presently, no hentai allusions need apply ). Though I must confess, it has been rather difficult to work a Micron with them lately (pen & ink is kinda' my bag). Evil (clutches)? Alignment is meaningless in the mighty endeavors I have wrought. Do you think these invoices file themselves or rabbit poo magically disappears by celestial or infernal ambitions damn it?! You should know this given the presentable (WotC-friendly) version of "Apple...", and the one that, uh, isn't. I'm kinda' torn between the two. Both are badass. I wish they weren't so tight-fisted with the CoC, uploads, & content in general as the whole of your portfolio should be uploaded here to inspire a wide x-section of gamers and budding artists. There is "like", yes, but envy has taken the driver's seat. To be blunt, it's really damn good. I wish I had your acumen, but I think I've neglected it for quite some time. Oh, well. You should be sending samples to WotC's illustration dept., like, yesterday btw. I like the fact you use more traditional media instead of so many of these hacks I see these days that coast along using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter only. Everything in moderation, right? What's your fav media? Dabble in photos, ceramics, jewelry, etc? Formal schooling, self-taught? Etc.
The gap: gender roles, contemporary politics/sociology, and fantasy art don't always see eye to eye, savvy? That is, you seem to have found a nice balance between the expected, the usual stuff we see in RPGs, and stylized vs. realism. Oh, and being a female probably didn't hurt either, though I'm still pending that proving bloodwork from Stockholm...

There is "like", yes, but envy has taken the driver's seat. To be blunt, it's really damn good. I wish I had your acumen, but I think I've neglected it for quite some time. Oh, well. You should be sending samples to WotC's illustration dept., like, yesterday btw. I like the fact you use more traditional media instead of so many of these hacks I see these days that coast along using Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter only. Everything in moderation, right? What's your fav media? Dabble in photos, ceramics, jewelry, etc? Formal schooling, self-taught? Etc.
I did send my portfolio quite a while ago but I never heard from them. I'm not surprised though, they have tons of great artists to pick and choose from. Its nice to hear that people like my art but I need to get much better if I want to get somewhere in this buissness.
My favorite media is definately graphite pencil but I love to try my hands on just about any artist media. I have taken some classes and studied graphic design for two years.
The gap: gender roles, contemporary politics/sociology, and fantasy art don't always see eye to eye, savvy? That is, you seem to have found a nice balance between the expected, the usual stuff we see in RPGs, and stylized vs. realism. Oh, and being a female probably didn't hurt either, though I'm still pending that proving bloodwork from Stockholm...

I suspect the lack of bowstrings is because they tend to get in the way, when you continue the work on a picture digitally. And since I just made my fist digital steps a month ago, bowstrings never seemed a problem in my old pictures.Interesting. I'd say that if bowstrings become a 'problem', it's still one that needs to be addressed. If it can't be done, don't half-ass it with a stringless bow, you know?
Probably a question of time and efficiency for the artists - they work to a deadline and forget the things they would add last - especially when there are a lot of last minute changes to be made.
But I'm hardly an expert on this. However I love those little details - not only in artwork but in the monster- and spell-descriptions of the earlier editions.
And breaking /pulling a bowstring loose makes for a good critical fumble as well. Snaps around like a whip and you can't use your bow until you fit it with a new string...

Nice has nothing to do w/ it lady. Professional courtesy perhaps. Anyway, the Christopher Walken prospect ("Suicide Kings") w/ the dogs is novel to say the least, however, I thought a pig farmer was the way to go ("Snatch"), yes? As humbling as your talent in comparison to my own makes me feel, to prematurely squash it might've been too haphazard on my part. There's a fantasy artist sweatshop somewhere I'm sure that's willing to pay me good money for you while you toil under the constraints of grinding out 100 PC pictures/day.

I don't think I want to know how pseudo pods can be Machiavellian. Yes the no nudity rule is boring but I guess they have to draw the line somewhere, I don't want the forums to turn in to some big porn fest like in the mature forum they used to have. Even though that forum was fun.
I didn't either once upon a time, but, well, here we are. Despotic appendages, though awkward, get the job done efficiently. Sentient limbs are a funny thing, so is having a very uncomfortable hand shake, you know? Life is full of compromises.
The Forums, yeah...I know, I know. If there was some VIP section, means to prove artistic pedigree, some maturity screening, something/anything, that would be nice, but I feel you may be correct given the glut of ****es on here posting up terabytes of crap art/porn/gore/etc.

They have a select few IMO. Back in 3.5, quite a few "illustrations" in a few of the Complete ___ series (among other books) were dubious to say the least. Some hack job watercolors (rare media for them, no?) I couldn't believe made it to print. That's just technique, we're not even talking about the cow towing, PC (not player character) nods, and concessions to 3rd parties, and bla bla bla. Anyway, rambling. Short of it is, given what you've posted here in comparison to the run-of-the-mill prints I see, especially in 4th ed, I'd say you have better than average odds. To be honest, I thought perhaps you were a WotC artist just slumming around the forums here (not familiar w/ you/your work before) gauging by the quality of it anyway.

Good, I like to hear that. Real media. I still swear by my .5mm & charcoal pencils, but I'm not near your calibre by a long shot. I should've taken a focus (what you did?) but instead bounced between 35mm b/w, ceramics (sculpture namely), pen/ink, drawing, and a smattering of jewelry-making. Decent at several, not truly excellent in any 1, you know? No digital art credentials either. That sucks big time, especially in the commercial field. School provided nothing outside of traditional media which really hamstrung me for the future. You, on the other hand, seem to be getting along just fine. I trust things are nicer in Sweden than here...my city is asthetically stunted w/ poor leadership & no creative vision.

Your humility is refreshing to say the least, but like I mentioned before, you might be helping a lot of aspiring artists/gamers/alligator wrestlers/etc by posting them here. This entire site is one big monument to cannibalization; ppl constantly getting idea 'x' from John/Jane Doe and running w/ it themselves to make it idea 'y'. I do all the time here (maps, plot hooks, builds, some art, etc). It's just your material is above and beyond, so you shouldn't hold back. You could do a lot of good, and judging by the feedback you're getting thus far, well? Flood away, sblock's be damned...if someone is gonna' be a **** about it, that's what scroll bars are for.
Did you ever see "Rushmore"? Perhaps too much, maybe apt enough here, IDK, "When someone leads an extraordinary life, they have no right to keep it to themselves." Just saying you're in a unique position, plz consider.

He also runs regular art "contests" which are judged by Mr. Shindehette of course, as well as whatever other art directors he can rassle into judging.
He's also really good about responding to e-mails.

i'm no artist and i'm lucky to have 2 in our group. now my current 4th ed PC is a warforged... which don't exist in the current cannon of our non-existant setting. "warforged" is pretty much synonymous with "PC construct race" for this setting.
anywho, my PC is a warforged warden called "Sentry". i originally described him as a hulking man shaped scupture of wood, vine, stone & mud. but then... the retcon happened tonight.
see, i had yet to draw out sentry so we didn't know exactly what he visually looked like, so one of the artists, the group's shaman (the other is the GM), was sketching our characters while waiting for stuff to happen (the kenku sorceror looks just sweet).
he drew this pretty silly looking picture of a treeman with an owl in his mouth and a monocle. he then asked me what my weapon was, which i described as a heavy stone attached to a large stick (warhammer).
and thus "Sentry" was reborn anew. it clicked and i knew that next level i had to boost my int by one, retrain a feat to wizard training and grab the familiar feat.what is awesome is that his "transformation" dailies that i had planned for him to take were already the tree-type ones. this just... wow.
so i got home and doodled this: Sentry and Jhove (a dragonborn warlord) getting ready for camp and the currently unnamed owl which will soon be my familiar.
the other is my 3rd ed character, who i've been playing for what... almost 2 years now?! cripes...
this picture is a bit older and has been in my photobucket for a while. "Shump" who doesn't have a proper name, is one of society's outcasts. a vagrant and hobo who recently (well, recent 2 years ago IRL when the game started) took up living in an old shack on Parrot Island. he was outcast for being a slightly violent, ill-tempered and sadistic warlock.
perfect throwaway when you want a dirty job done. surprisingly, through guile and general sneaky-ness he managed to survive level 1 (not without a few mental scars. i swear to Kord above, D&D Spiders HATE my characters...), gain a lifelong friend (the monkey, Mr.ChimChim) and several powerful allies whom he actually trusts and is willing to put his life on the line for. 16 levels later, he's off in the lower planes, kicking arse, blowing people up, forcing himself on them with cold and chilling tentacles, accidental disembowlings, and much much more. oh Shump. how i love thee... if only thou woulds bathe...

Well it's difficult to not interpret the prase as me being a hog that my husband sits on and picks the best pieces of meat from.

First of all its filled with crap. Since there is no quality control a big number of people there tend to upload just about anything indiscriminately.
Secondly its filled with art thieves and people who copy art and calls it their own.
Half of the photographs uploaded is thinly veiled porn and the other half are angsty selfportraits of emo kids.
Plus I dont really care for that Deviant art has the right to do just about anything with uploaded artwork.

There are indeed some pictures that i feel that I could have done loads better. But somethimes what you see in an artist porfolio isnt always what you end up with in the end due to time restrictions.
I dont really think that I am humle though, just realistic about my abilities. I'm terrible at action pictures for examples and illustrators who can do good action are very sought after.

Graphite is my favorite media but all my pictures goes through Photoshop at some point. I would say that it is next to impossible to manage as an illustrator without computer editing skills.

Well, in this case, I did venture and still gained nothing. My wrist is in bad enough shape I can barely write my own name. Then again, I never really could. When I was a wee lad still all high on the satisfaction a simple letter like 'A' could bring me, I found that the letter 'C' hounded me no matter how much I tried to rid myself of it and it's unpleasant curvy-ness. It wasn't in English, Social Studies, Science or even Math that this devilish mark always appeared to tell me I wasn't quite good enough, it as Penmanship. Yep, that was an actual grade given back in those heady days of uniformed Christian instruction. My first love, my first experience with the harsh realities of the fickle nature of my peers and my first 'C' all came to me at blessed St Monica's. A place I shan't forget. Er. Where were I? Oh yeah, I can't draw. Tried and tried to the point of exasperation. I just can't do it. And here I be - wishing my writing could be on the same level as some of the illustrations we've been shown. Though I suppose I'd have to, you know, write to find out if that was an actual possibility. Oh sweet apathy! Nevermind.

I actually did have a moment of major personal achievement just this past weekend. Really nothing more than a mark of progress in a journey that will last until I'm no longer physically able to continue it. Still, something to be proud of and something that can be measured. Something that holds true anywhere on the planet, too. At any rate, I found it was far more rewarding to watch others that I helped get to a similar point achieve their own marker. For me, it's just a step along the way. For them it's the first and likely greatest step to have taken in this pursuit. One day they may be standing where I was feeling as I did. Hmm. I think maybe I'm getting a bit soft in my advancing age. Reflection is for chumps, after all. Modify your mind and your world comes with it. It's so much easier than trying to reconcile the one to the other. ;)

Its graphite drawing on yellow paper with white pen as highlights. I also painted it with really thin colour in Photoshop.

My main inspiration for Birgit appearance was Warhammer dwarfes.

I think it's really good. It has a serene feeling to it and you really made an effort with the scenery. Remember that when you draw something really small, you dont have to draw the whole outline and every detail, you can just suggest the shape, like when you see something at a vast distance.

The only "improvement" I could suggest (thinking of a very nitpicking art-teacher back in school) would be to pin a note to it: "The moon isn't intended as the only/the main light-source" because that is the thing, he would come up with. *role eyes*
I think the light, it is actually better the way you did it, because every candle, torch and lantern is "stronger" than the moon and using the moon as the main light source makes it look like the sun.

Anyway: I'm glad you like my pictures a bit - that means a lot, when it comes from such a great artist like you. And you are right about the details in small or far away objects. The reason for the black shading in the colored picture is very simple however: The pictures are 10-15 years old. I used to start with a pencil-sketch and photocopy it, before I tried to color it (with colored pencils). The "cheeky elf" is actually my first clumsy attempt at digital altering/editing (not counting resizing or auto-improve) after I scanned them last year. With the current possibilities, I'd keep the lines and the shading "softer" and leaf most of the shading, the coloring and the highlights to be done at the computer...
And of course I should stop to use gritted paper or scrap-paper for sketches...
To add more portraits: a quick sketch (or scan of a photocopy) for an NPC: "Tarkas Grumbarts" (grey-beard) venerable dwarven engineer and high priest - known as "the creator of the new gates"

I can attest to that. I recently got sick of my own crappy drawing ability and purchased some instructional books (The Complete Idiot's Guide to Drawing Manga, etc.) to help me practice. It's only been a week, so I haven't gotten much better yet; but I do find it helps me relax, so I try to sit down and practice at least 15-30 min a day. There's also some surprisingly good instructional videos on You Tube. If you like the manga style, Mark Crilley's channel has several videos worth looking at.
As you said though, the key is in finding time to practice (no matter what the skill is).
