#1 Style75 May 01, 2010 4:15:54	I was just reading the D&D news for April www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4... when I noticed a mention of auctioning off a game of D&D with Chris Perkins to support the Child's Play network. I think this is an excellent idea that lots of D&D players could do in their own communities to support Child's Play or any other charity! Child's Play is a great program and I've seen it make a big difference to the quality of life of children in my own community hospital. Their goal is to bring fun to kids who are in hospital. In my city, people support the charity by buying games and game systems (Nintendo DS is the favorite) as well as comic books, board games, and DVD's. Cash donations are used to buy the same items. As an experienced DM, I'm pretty sure I could put together a fun 3-5 hour session that I could auction off at a convention, gaming store, a gaming night, or as part of a larger community auction. For my part, the effort and time commitment would not be huge, and I'm pretty sure I could raise a sizeable amount of cash for the effort. I know a LOT of people who would like to try D&D but don't want to make a commitment to joining a campaign. I'm very certain a one shot D&D experience would be a popular auction item. #4 pluisjen May 03, 2010 9:47:11	If you want to give kids in the hospital a great time, instead of auctioning yourself away to give them a boardgame, why not host your game in the hospital? Let the kids play a game with you. They might enjoy that even more
#5 boraxe May 03, 2010 10:59:50	What makes it an auction likely to garner interest is not the "game of D&D" part, it's the "with Chris Perkins". Unless you are someone with name recognition to the target gaming community why would anyone pay to play with you?

In the expansive gamer community, it is my opinion that no single entity has done more good than Jerry and Mike of Penny Arcade. They are intelligent, successful, funny, artistic, and charitable; traits that, to a degree, most gamers share. The banner of Penny Arcade as the pinnacle of gamer virtues is one under which I am happy to stand. ...and I'd give up popular parts of my anatomy to play D&D with either of them.
