Classic Gold Box Games

Aug 28, 2008 21:42:35 My father and I used to play the old D&D Gold Box edition PC games, (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness specifically.) We played them on an old Tandy computer.

Does anyone else remember these games? They were GREAT fun(for their time.)

My real question is this: My dad would like to play them again (and sure, I might also.) Is there a way to play get these games in version playable on modern computers? He still has the old floppy disks, but when he tries to play them, (even on a fairly old PC) everything moves so fast, you can't even read the text to see what happens.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Aug 28, 2008 21:51:07 MoSlow or something like that to slow down your processor or to emulate a slower processor so the clock speeds are similar.

Worked with windows 98, haven't tried lately...

Aug 28, 2008 22:28:59 Use DOSBox and Moslo, and they work fine. I haven't tried to play them in awhile, but they should work.

Sep 04, 2008 8:26:03 I personally would recommend DosBox, as I have used it to play all 4 of those games on Windows XP. Good luck against Tyranthraxus!

Also, not sure if you like sci-fi as well, but the Buck Rogers series (Also part of the gold-box lineup) was very well done.

I just fondly remember the Goldbox games. With fewer discussion topics, who else played these?

I liked how you could trick the program into allowing duplicates of magic items to be created. Woe to the Mulmaster Beholder core.
