Thought I'd share some photos and stories from my short stay in the Cleveland area. I may have already mentioned that me and the wife visited the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

All in all it was pretty kool, I was hoping that they would have more "hands on" exibits, I mean yeah its kool seeing Jimi Hendrix's guitar, but I really wanted to play it damnit! They did do a pretty good job with the displays though, it starts off with the early years and showed alot of the recording equipment and stuff that they used back then and played music from that time period, so as you went along it was kinda like traveling in time.

I was pretty disappointed with the Doors display, one of the greatest Rock-n-Roll bands of all time and they get just one little section!? And most of it was like Jim's homework from when he was 5, I mean yeah thats great that Jim could draw an '8', but what does that have to do with the music, yaknow?

They also had a pretty kool display for Pink Floyd's the Wall, actually come to think of it, this was the only display dedicated to a single (well ok it was a double) album, all the other displays focused on the bands in general. They had a pretty kool Wall set up with an inflatable schoolmaster, unfortunatly they wouldnt let anyone climb on it, I got yelled at for just sitting on it, I mean what the hell, how you could stick a giant wall there and not expect people to try to climb it.

I was really hoping that they would have some hammer flags in the gift shop, or at least a poster, nope! but they did have plenty of Justin Beiber memorabilia, please, for the love of god, tell me he is not in running to get inducted.

They had quite a few cars there as well, Of course they had to have ZZ Top's Eliminator. Pretty kool, except they wouldnt let you sit in it.

...And, Rage Against the Machine's tour van...

Nothing fancy, just a beat up van, I like it!

Also had one of Elvis's cars there from some movie or something, I dunno, never been big into Elvis so didnt take a shot of that one, they did have some correspondance between Elvis and the FBI, proof that hes still alive and working under cover!!

They also had Janis Joplin's Porsche, it looked pretty kool, I mean its a Porshe so yeah of course it looked kool, but it had all this crazy psycadelic images all over it, looked interesting, unfortunatly the lighting sucked and they wouldnt allow you to use a flash, so that pic didnt come out, but just take my word for it, it looked kool.

Thanks we equally blame Americans, since its been both sides that have used it as a dumping ground.

Its still a shame whats happened to the great lakes over the years in the name of progress. It's hilarious how the status quo is to continue to CENSORED where you eat (in this case drink)

Unfortunatly, no I didnt take any pics of the recording equipment, there was lots of kool stuff there, but I only brought one memory card with me, so I didnt want to take pics of everything, I'll get the recording equipment and Janis Joplin's Porsche next time.

And yeah good ol Lake Erie, I havnt been there since I was a kid, we headed up to Put-N-Bay one year for a family vacation, and we stoped by this Mcdonalds that was right across from Lake Erie, after me and my brother ate we begged our parents to let us cross the street and check out the lake, they said ok, so we excitedly ran across the street to check it out, only to find tires, needles, and all kindsa crap washed up on the beach, we wanted to go home right then and there! I had heard since that time that they stepped up their cleaning efforts, but it looked pretty much the same, and smelled the same all these years later, at least it hasnt gotten worse I guess.

1) I've been to Cleveland more times than I can remember.  I have never been to the Rock and Roll Hall of Lame.

2) The lake is actually pretty clean.  When you take a picture in an area like that you're gonna see lotsa junk cuz that's where junk collects.  Maybe I'll take a pic of Hatteras harbor when I go to show ya'all.

3) The lake, as a matter of fact, is too clean.  An infestation of zebra mussels has caused this fairly serious problem.  They filter a lot of water and do it really well.  The result is clearer water that makes it harder for predatory fish to catch food, makes the water warmer overall and allows algae to grow more readily.

4) The fish is what's regionally called a 'sheephead'.

I didnt think the Rock Hall was that lame, a bit over priced sure, 22 dollars to get in, and 4 dollars for a 20 ounce pepsi!! So, ZB, what are some of the other attractions that I shoulda checked out in the Cleveland area? I really wanted to go to the 'A Christmas Story' house, but we didnt have the time for that, I want a leg lamp danmit!! And whats with the traffic lights in Cleveland? Alot of the streets didnt even have traffic lights, they had cops directing traffic, what I thought was odd was that even on streets with traffic lights they still had cops there directing traffic, we got yelled at cause we was waiting for the light to change, waiting for the little walk sighn to light up, and this cops yelling at as, "Go!, I said Go!, Go damnit!!, I said Go!, damn tourists!!".

They have cops out whenever there's a major event.  Could have been an Indians game.  I know they played 2 day games over the weekend.

There's not much to do in Cleveland anymore.  You should have checked out the Great Lakes Brewing Company, though.  Great beer and I hear the restaurant is pretty good, too.  There's a few good places to eat, too, but overall there ain't much goin' on.  Er, you could have gone to a game.  The Indians are ok right now.  Course it's afore the all-star break so ... yeah.  They usually wait until after that to totally collapse.

And yeah there was an Indians game just letting out when we rolled in, I was like damn whats up with all these people? I thought there was some kinda protest march goin on, Ive never seen so many damn people before, then I notice theyre all walking from the stadium, I didnt realize that so many people actually watched Indians games, and appreantly Indians fans have the right of way, didnt matter that the light was green, they was crossin the street damnit ,and when 100 people decide theyre crossing the street, what you gonna do? Aint no way youll be able to run them all over. I think its funny that you say theres not much to do in Cleveland, but im lamenting the fact that I didnt get to do all the things I wanted to do! We didnt even hit the casino! Ah well, next time.

They also had some Yuengling Porter, Ive seen this stuff advertised all over the place, on TV, radio, billboards, even on the side of busses, the problem is Ive never seen the stuff anywhere, and anytime I ask about it I just get blank stares like they dont know what Im talking about, but this place had some, so I had to try it. Its not bad, seemed a little weak for a porter, but maybe thats cause im used to drinking stouts, still, not a bad beer.

I've actually never made it to the GLBC yet myself.  Just never think about it when I'm lookin' for stuff to do for some reason.  Oh well, I'll get there one day.  And yeah, if there was a game that explains the odd traffic situation.  It absolutely sucks to drive up there when there's any kind of sporting event.  People watch the Indians nowdays cuz they're the best they've been in a while.  And they can hit.  Pitching, though, is not that great.  Anyhoo, it's sort of like a mini-return to late '90s form for them so people are interested again.  Last year there probably wouldn't have been so many people there.  In the '90s, though, there would have been a lot more.  The record for sell out games is well over 300 in a row ... and it's never even come close to being touched since.  Oh well.

Oh yeah, the casino.  Well, it's not really where it's gonna be yet.  They're still building that I guess.  Like, the plan was to have its current location be a temp one while they built the big an' super fancy place.  Now I guess it's doing well enough that it's gonna occupy both places once the other one is done.  I had a few chances to go with friends but didn't bother.  I like cheap blackjack and they don't have a lot of that.  Like, $15 a hand as the low table.  Screw that.  At $5 a hand I can play all night on $100 and not lose much, yanno?

I just wanted to bring up a few more things about the Rock Hall, that I probably should have back when I posted the pics. The wife was kinda pissed cause KISS is one of her all time favorite bands of all time, but guess what? They havent been inducted, but guess who has? Thats right, Run DMC!! I dont understand that, I mean I thought it was the rock hall of fame!? I mean nothing against RUN DMC, but I wouldnt count that as rock music, not by a long shot, but they did do that song with Aerosmith so I guess that counts for something? I dont know. Im a little upset that Metallica made it in but not Megadeth, Megadeth has stayed pretty heavy all these years whereas Metallica has constantly changed up their sound to be more radio friendly, guess thats why they made it in. The Beastie Boyz made it in as well, the wife didnt mind that so much cause shes totally into the Beastie Boyz for whatever reason. I guess I dont mind that so much cause they did have sense enough to get Kerry King to play guitar on 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn'. Still, its a shame that Slayer aint in there. They had  this whole wall of Hip-Hop at the Rock Hall with Run's sneakers, or maybe it was DMC's, I dunno, And one of Flava Flav's clock necklaces, it seemed totally out of place with all this other rock memorbillia, but whatever. I didnt take a pic of that btw, sorry.

Another thing I thought was kinda interesting was they had alot of hand written lyrics, that was kinda interesting cause in most cases what the artist had orginally written down was not what made it into the finally cut, Billy Joel had the most scribbles and crossed out lines btw. Most of these were written on spiral notebooks or napkins and stuff, except for Joe Walsh who appreantly wrote his lyrics on parchment with a caligraphy pen, oooh aint he special! Another thing I thought was interesting was none of these artists made any sort of musical notations, other than 'Guitar solo' or something like that, there was no, in the key of C or 4/4 time or anything like that.

A lot of "songwriters" are really just lyricists now. There are still a few who can play instruments (believe it or not, Flavor Flav is one of them", but it's a dwindling breed.

Well, yeah, but Billy Joel is supposed to be the Piano Man right? I figured he would have had some musical notations in there at least.
