| #1strongeraxeOct 31, 2008 5:25:19 | StrongerAxe has this riddle for you to try and solve. The riddle is asking 'What am I?' I weigh as much as ounce of feathers I hold a lot of civilization together You hit me hard and I serve you well But pulling me back is hard as hell StrongerAxe made this riddle for my players to answer and they never got it. Go on and google if you like, this StrongerAxe original so the answer cannot be obtained in that way. |
| #2gullasOct 31, 2008 5:49:16 | I'm going to take a wild guess.... is it " trust" ? |
| #3rambaldiOct 31, 2008 6:15:17 | Either an ounce of ductape or an ounce of nails? |
| #4RUMPLESTIXOct 31, 2008 6:21:05 | Will stronger axe answer this question? Is the answer and riddle in some way related to women and D&D, the topic of the forum? Note: If trust were the answer, it would only be a circuitous relation at best. Edit Note: I hope no one else bothers with this before we get a reply, but I can't stop anyone from doing anything. |
| #5EscherEnigmaOct 31, 2008 9:58:20 | I would probably guess "the big myths", but that might be from reading too much Terry Pratchet. Either way, whenever I include riddles and puzzles like that in my games I don't have one answer in mind. After all, these are the heroes we're dealing with, and it's not very heroic for them to sit in front of a puzzle-door for an hour with two dictionaries, a thesaurus, and a magic 8-ball. |
| #6strongeraxeOct 31, 2008 12:56:41 | StrongerAxe thought was good way to show off brains to ladies. Settle down, RUMPLESTIX, moderator move if thread not good enough... Didn't mean to pee in your soup. :P Answer was nails. Good answer, rambaldi. Guess duct tape would work too though. |
| #7shadowheart_maidenOct 31, 2008 14:12:07 | StrongerAxe thought was good way to show off brains to ladies. Just FYI, this forum is not here for you to flirt. By the way, most nails don't weigh an ounce. Your riddle isn't very accurate. |
| #8pyromancer999Oct 31, 2008 16:00:07 | StrongerAxe has this riddle for you to try and solve. I would guess... *****es? |
| #9downtymOct 31, 2008 22:34:48 | StrongerAxe thought was good way to show off brains to ladies. If you want to impress the ladies: Deus **** Cur? works. Edit: hahahahahha. Poor lingua Latina. I don't feel like working around the language filter, so the second word - the one in asterisks - is a form of "Humanus". You can figure it out. |
| #10strongeraxeNov 01, 2008 7:56:09 | Beg your pardon, how much does nails weigh so riddle can be made to accuracy? And StrongerAxe not flirting, just showing off brains to ladies. Forums prime real-estate for brain showcases. Chika-chika-yeah! ![]() |
| #11EscherEnigmaNov 01, 2008 10:55:44 | ... you think a single riddle works to 'show off'? Hell, it's not even a hard riddle (I just tend to think about thinks too much, and too metaphorically). Try other kinds of word puzzles, math (logic) problems, and the like, especially where the answer relies on creative or non-traditional thinking. And don't stop at one, most people probably aren't terribly impressed by one-trick ponies. Show multiple, throw out some riddles/puzzles that the person you're trying to impress can solve so they don't feel like you're just trying to show how stupid they are (afterall, asking a riddle and then answering it yourself isn't terribly impressive) and it really works best in a group where the riddle-asker puzzle-giver swaps so that you're solving riddles/puzzles from others as well. ... wait, did I just give advice for how to flirt using puzzles and riddles in the form of a critique? |
| #12shamurai7Nov 01, 2008 13:12:46 | i thought it was a good riddle...had me stumped for a minute. the whole feathers ounce thing could use a bt of tweaking. i like the Tolkienesque style to it. |
| #13QubeNov 01, 2008 15:31:14 | I thoughed a string. Civiliastions are keept together with strings attached, they can be hit (in music) and pulled (in bows). |
| #14stardrifterNov 02, 2008 0:33:41 | Thought it was iron, myself |
| #15goblin_prideNov 02, 2008 23:04:12 | Beg your pardon, how much does nails weigh so riddle can be made to accuracy? What kind of nail? Each kind of nail has it's own weight and each size has it's own weight. You'd do well to start the process by learning the penny weight of nails and then move on from there. Although as an answer, "A spike" also works. You'd have to check on the penny weight versus a pound in order to find out which size comes out to 16 per pound. |
| #16midnitepoisonDec 19, 2008 15:25:02 | heres one for strongeraxe: the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of the end, and the end of every place well? |

| #21jasonorlandohawkDec 19, 2008 16:00:26 | If your up on your '80 movies, you'll probably get this, but for some reason, I use this every other campaign, and my regulars are still always stumped by it. Two paths are guarded by two (statues/people/whatever). One path leads to (something good). The other path leads to (something really painful sounding). One guardian ALWAYS tells the truth. The other guardian ALWAYS lies. You can ask one Yes/No question to either guardian, but not both. How do you determine which path is the correct path? |
| #22boj0Dec 19, 2008 19:10:08 | heres some more e n t |
| #23rambaldiDec 19, 2008 20:32:00 | If your up on your '80 movies, you'll probably get this, but for some reason, I use this every other campaign, and my regulars are still always stumped by it. ask each what the other would say |
| #24midnitepoisonDec 20, 2008 22:44:47 | ok! next up! theres something in the room you are in, that everyone can touch. you can too, but only with your right hand. what is it? |
| #25baneofelvesDec 20, 2008 23:04:03 | umm. my left hand? idk, I've never been good at riddles |
| #26scipioDec 21, 2008 4:46:44 | I would say my left hand, but I can touch it with other parts of my body, like my arm, or face. :P (I know the riddle didn't take that into account and my left hand is the answer most likely. I just like to be difficult.) |
| #27Johnny_AngelDec 21, 2008 12:18:53 | StrongerAxe has this riddle for you to try and solve. is it the ozone layer? |
| #28Johnny_AngelDec 21, 2008 12:20:22 | is it the ozone layer? nevermind...already answered |
| #29malek2991Dec 21, 2008 16:13:51 | If your up on your '80 movies, you'll probably get this, but for some reason, I use this every other campaign, and my regulars are still always stumped by it. The answer is this: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0327.html On a more serious note, I can't think of a question to solve this without asking each a question (or using magic). The solution in the comic would still work. |
| #30balcinokDec 21, 2008 21:13:38 | You could probably start by asking an absolute truth, such as pointing to the ceiling and asking, "Is this the ceiling?" Based on the answer you should be able to discern which one is which and find your way. |
| #31baneofelvesDec 21, 2008 21:15:29 | But violence makes it so much more entertaining! |
| #32paradoxes9Dec 21, 2008 21:30:19 | If your up on your '80 movies, you'll probably get this, but for some reason, I use this every other campaign, and my regulars are still always stumped by it. You can find out which one is the truth teller by asking one statue, "if I ask the other statue if you always tell the truth, what will it say?" If the answer is "no," then you're talking to the truthful one. Obviously, if the answer is "yes," you're talking to the liar. This doesn't help you get the correct path, though. I can't think of what movie this could be from, either. Anyone else? |
| #33_jayne_cobb_Dec 22, 2008 8:59:19 | StrongerAxe has this riddle for you to try and solve. I admit it, you've stumped me. No matter how hard I try I simply cannot begin to crack the riddle of why you refer to yourself in the third-person. |
| #34balcinokDec 22, 2008 12:14:48 | You can find out which one is the truth teller by asking one statue, "if I ask the other statue if you always tell the truth, what will it say?" It's from Labyrinth, y'know with Bowie as the child stealing king of goblins? |
| #35paradoxes9Dec 23, 2008 0:29:36 | It's from Labyrinth, y'know with Bowie as the child stealing king of goblins? Thanks, Balcinok! I haven't seen that movie in ages! |
| #36balcinokDec 23, 2008 14:32:19 | No problem, I was surprised that no one else chimed in before me. |
| #37malek2991Dec 26, 2008 21:03:39 | After more thought the solution to the always lying/always telling the truth puzzle. Ask one "Would your brother/conterpart/etc... would say the correct path is to the left (chosen arbitrarily) Case 1a: He is the one that tells the truth and says "Yes": correct path is to the right. Case 1b: He is the one that lies and says "Yes": He is lying so his brother wouldn't say it is to the left so again it is to the right. Case 2a: He is the one that tells the truth and says "No": The correct path is to the left. Case 2b: He is the one that lies and says "No": He is lying so his brother would say it is to the left so again it is to the left. Thus you're able to solve it using only one question (unless they just refuse to answer or something). |
| #38QubeDec 28, 2008 15:02:37 | After more thought the solution to the always lying/always telling the truth puzzle. this one is more fun "And over here we have the labyrinth guards. One always lies, one always tells the truth and one stabs people who ask tricky questions" Show read the mouse-over text of the picture in the link ... |
