Jun 26, 2011 21:26:11 So this is kinda random, but anyone have first-hand experience with an awesome comic book shop in LA? I'm gonna be there a few days in a few days so I might make a detour if it's convenient.

Jun 27, 2011 0:29:44 Comics specifically, or are you looking for games? I know of a few in OC, so if you're fairly mobile, I can help with that.

From OC? Because it's about that long from Santa Ana to Old Town SD, and LA is AT LEAST another 45 minutes from there. Especially if you're trying to drive during the day. And it's even worse on a weekday.

In that case, sorry. I lived in OC for 12 years and avoided LA like the plague that it is. I've been there 6 times that I can remember. Three of those, I was just passing through and two of the others I was going to LAX.

A good friend of mine manages a comic book store in Glendale (Los Angeles) called Legacy Comics. It is near the Glendale Galeria.

MeltDown Comics and Collectables, 7522 Sunset Blvd (Sunset west of Gardener, for anyone who knows the area). I've only been in there a couple times despite it being walking distance, but they're HUGE, in the has-everything sort of way. I guess the staff isn't the great staff you get at mom-and-pop places like my FLGS, Knight Ware Inc., but the store itself is essentially the place where you can find anything. It's bright, open, and inviting, and as far as I know it's the best comic book shop in the Hollywood/West Hollywood area of LA. Couldn't tell you about the San Frenando Valley, Glendale, or any of the other regions of the city though: I don't really hunt down comic shops, this one just happens to be REALLY close to me.

If you get a chance, though, you should check out Knight Ware, in the Cahuenga pass, right by Universal. After a very long search, I have no doubt that they are the best gaming store in LA, and that's from Long Beach to Ventura. Couldn't ask for a better atmosphere or staff. Parking can be a pain some days, though, but they have a little lot in back
