Oct 07, 2010 14:55:56 Yeah, I saw something about this. The guy is all like 'don't do yoga' and people are all like 'when I do yoga, I don't get into the spiritual stuff' and then the guy's all like 'then you're not doing yoga' and I'm all like 'then what the **** is the ****ing problem?'.

... uh, this is really disturbing, coming from someone who is a leader among Christians (even if it is Southern Baptists - by which I mean a sect of them, and not all Christians). Christianity has a long history of using the body as a vehicle for communing with the divine.

I mean, if you want to object to the practice's religious roots and/or overtones, go right ahead. But that statement is just lacking any perspective of Christianity and its history.

*shrug* I grew up next to Southern Baptists, so I've heard them object to lots of stuff, and that's totally their thing. I couldn't understand for the life of me why Broadway shows (like the Disney stuff) was OK, but any kind of modern music (even the kind that isn't talking about bumpin' & grindin') was leading me to Hell.

Meh. I have no problem with this guy being all like "it's encouraging a spirituality that isn't ours" (since that's pretty much the right of every religion), but that one quote really annoyed me with its lack of perspective.

Then again, he got press out of it, so maybe that's worth it for him.

Oct 07, 2010 20:54:14 As a Christian, and an Independent Baptist, I can see his point, especially if you are doing the chanting and the "ohm"-ing, which Hindu yogis will tell you sets your body up to allow the "gods" to enter your body. Get rid of that, and you should be fine; focus on the Truly Divine, and you should be OK.

Can't you use other religion's forms of prayer other than the usual "Misa re ne nobis" latin Catholic methods to communicate with God?

Well as long as you don't go Aztec-style (except Quetzocoatl who was totally against human sacrifice).

The best thing to do is point and laugh - unless they protest at your war hero son's funeral, then you have every right to send them to Hell sooner then latter! I hear them bash things for a lot less, and defend their reasoning with logic that is completely alien and into their own world. For all the flack D&D gets by Christians for being Satanic, at least Wisdom is a job requirement for D&D Clerics!

Malcadon, you're clearly refering to Fred Phelps (I call him Freddy ), and IMHO, he is not a Christian, but rather someone well-paid by non-Christian interests to put a black mark upon people like me in the eyes of the public. I am very certain that he will get his come-uppance in one form or another unless he changes his ways.

And do you REALLY want to go to a place of eternal torment just so you can do it on your own terms? C'mon, you've got to be kidding! If you really want to understand Christians, read the Bible.
