I dunno, I think it's a neat story.  Good step in the right direction.  As an aside, I noticed in the pics that her uniform didn't have any Chief Wahoo imagery on it.  I like that, too.

OMG, this story brought tears to my eyes.

Growing up, I loved baseball.  I watched all the games, my mom and family were into it, I'd go every Fourth of July to the Phillie's game and watched the fireworks with my paternal grandparents.  I played softball, because that was the league in the area, and I was unconcerned with the difference (I was a catcher, and we played as hard as any boys out there).

When I was 12 or so, I moved from my mother's to my father's house.  He lived in an area without a softball league, so I asked to play on the baseball team.  They told me I couldn't, because I was a girl.  Specifically, to my face, "Girls can't play baseball."

It was a very big thing in my life, and it's an experience that has shaped me.  Over time, I stopped watching as much baseball - whether or not it was because I didn't play it anymore, I can't say.  But I still remember softball fondly, and the sharp moment of denial when I couldn't play anymore.

I think it's great to see a story like this.  It may just be batting practice, but it's better than nothing.

Yep.  And it shows that the minds that matter (not that they should, mind, just that they do) seem to be more receptive than ever.  I mean, it is just BP but it's also the first time it's ever been done.  That does mean something and every journey has to start with a single step, ya know?  (anyone else smell cheese?) Hopefully this will inspire more girls to play and those that do to kick it into even higher gear since, maybe, a higher goal can now be reached.  Maybe.  Sometimes 'maybe' is pretty good.

I played AA until I was 24.  We played against the Silver Bullets (an all female pro baseball team) twice.  It was their first year playing professional baseball, so like any upstart team, they struggled a bit.  But they were fiercely competitive and very talented.

Really? An article with bats, balls, and girls and you can't come up with anything? For shame!!! Go sit in the corner and think about what you have failed to do...

Nobody can see what he does to you once he gets you in that dark, deep corner.  But don't tell anyone.  It's your li'l secret.

You use that punishment a lot. Is there some sort of story or anecdote behind this?

No. I could BS you and tell you that I am using a behavior modification procedure called time out, but I really don't feel like getting into the whole discussion about what the appropriate use of time-out is, or why the average person's knowledge of a time-out procedure is incorrect. Blah Blah Blah...

Don't worry, he'll still go.  He wants to, you know.  Badly.
