| #1Johnny_AngelJun 03, 2009 0:28:43 | So, without going into too much detail...(I'm not even quite sure how it happened yet myself...) I've managed to be put into a rather high position in a cosmetics company. The premise of the product is personalized cosmetics. The company charges a small fee to test your skin -acid levels, pigment, etc, and then they formulate cosmetic products which are designed for your skin. I'm not fully in control yet; I won't have my hands completely on the wheel for probably a month or so, but I figured it couldn't hurt to do some networking through the D&D community ahead of time. So, is anyone out there interested in such a product? |
| #2toastedamphibianJun 03, 2009 0:38:28 | No. But thank you for the offer. |
| #3Johnny_AngelJun 03, 2009 0:51:07 | No. But thank you for the offer. Thanks for at least giving some feedback. Like I said, I figured it couldn't hurt to put the idea out there. Networking is always good :-) |
| #4KillerGMJun 03, 2009 0:55:52 | I'd just be careful about "networking" - advertising on the boards is against the CoC. Not something I'm interested in, but good luck. |
| #5sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 03, 2009 2:09:27 | coc oh noes!!!! (jellybuttlee@gmail.com I'm totally interested) |
| #6NovacatJun 03, 2009 2:26:08 | Just don't go selling any to a guy named Matt Hagen. |
| #7stealthmarmotJun 03, 2009 21:10:33 | Wait, you are polling a D&D board concerning makeup and cosmetics? I'm not normally one to stereotype, but you have to admit, on paper, seems like the last place you would expect to go for that sort of polling. Of course Sier had to be the exception to prove the rule. |
| #8sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 03, 2009 22:21:07 | :P |
| #9EscherEnigmaJun 03, 2009 22:23:29 | On the other hand, it could be a subtle jab suggesting that with the sterotypical pasty and pimple-faced geek complexion, more of us would need such a thing. But I imagine it was more of a "hey, I talk to people here, may as well throw a hook and see what bites". |
| #10sigil_beguilerJun 03, 2009 22:53:50 | I am wondering how they do the testing. Unless they plan to be widely distribute across (say working through MAC) it be hard to get the samples unless through mail and then you would probably need to send out a kit to get samples or some such. I personally don't have the money to test my skin and pay for the makeup, can only do one of the two. |
| #11Johnny_AngelJun 04, 2009 0:27:59 | I am wondering how they do the testing. Unless they plan to be widely distribute across (say working through MAC) it be hard to get the samples unless through mail and then you would probably need to send out a kit to get samples or some such. Honestly, I don't understand the full concept yet either. It's something which sorta just fell into my lap unexpectedly. From what I gather they send out a kit (like what Sigili mentioned) and you use the kit to take a sample which you send back to them. I know that the same company that I'll be working for also has dietary suppliment/vitamin line, and they do something similar with that as well. You send in something they can get a DNA sample from, and they test it to see what vitamins your body is lacking; what diseases you might be prone to based on your DNA, and various other things. They then formulate vitamins which are made specifically for you. A lot of what they do is based around the idea of personalized care. Apparently personalized care is something a lot of companies are looking to do in the near future...? The lady who will be my boss is away on a business trip at the moment; I'll know more when I'm able to speak to her in person again. btw, who is Matt Hagen? @ Marmot, yeah, on paper it does seem strange. I'm aware of the stereotypes. Then again, going from being infantry in the military to selling cosmetics seems rather strange too. Besides, hopefully you aren't implying that girls who play D&D can't be pretty... |
| #12KillerGMJun 04, 2009 0:31:18 | I may have read/watched too much science fiction, but reading that scared the crap out of me. |
| #13sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 04, 2009 0:32:11 | @ Marmot, yeah, on paper it does seem strange. I'm aware of the stereotypes. Then again, going from being infantry in the military to selling cosmetics seems rather strange too. Besides, hopefully you aren't implying that girls who play D&D can't be pretty... No, he's just implying that I'm the prettiest :D Has anyone seen my shame?? I can't find it. ;) |
| #14sigil_beguilerJun 04, 2009 0:35:49 | You know this just reminds me one of these days I need to order that Genome DNA kit. I want to see who I have as an ancestor, come on something kickass! |
| #15sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 04, 2009 0:38:21 | Why doesn't anyone ever want an amusing or cuddly ancestor... |
| #16sigil_beguilerJun 04, 2009 2:02:06 | Amusing or cuddly is just another form of kickass :P |
| #17sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 04, 2009 2:05:16 | so you wouldn't be disappointed if you descended from... say... Attila the Fun? |
| #18Johnny_AngelJun 04, 2009 2:13:45 | What I know about my ancestors: On my dad's side - they were kicked out of France for refusing to be Catholic. I've done further research, and there is some evidence to suggest that somewhere along the line my family originated in what would have been the country of Gaul. On my mother's side - not much; it can be difficult to trace Native American ancestry. I know there is a locally famous historical figure refered to as 'Indian Eve' by some of the local library's books, but the information is very vague. |
| #19stealthmarmotJun 04, 2009 15:39:22 | No, he's just implying that I'm the prettiest :D Prettiest besides me! |
| #20terronusJun 04, 2009 15:41:04 | so you wouldn't be disappointed if you descended from... say... Attila the Fun? Of course you'd be disappointed if you descended from a bad pun. Now, Charlie Chaplin, Abbot or Costello, or even Mr. Rogers... I could go for that. |
| #21sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 05, 2009 2:11:14 | Prettiest besides me! k. I'm fine with being the second prettiest gamer in the world ;) |
| #22DralenanJun 05, 2009 2:21:31 | Personally, I have had trouble finding products that make my skin rough and scaly. It's so embarrassing when I'm out with a woman, and she touches me and makes humiliating comments like "oh, your skin is so smooth". So something to make my skin more reptilian would be appreciated. Also, something to turn my lips blue. I would like people to ask me when I cross the street if I need CPR. Of course hair care products. Superglue and koolaid aren't doing it anymore. |
| #23ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 05, 2009 9:09:35 | Has anyone seen my shame?? I can't find it.
| #25ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 05, 2009 13:31:34 | It would be awesome if she did tho :P no one around here does ![]() I'll edit it I guess... Here, sorry. You left it under my bed last night :P |
| #26sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 05, 2009 15:52:56 | Well :P 白鬼! 糟糕! |
| #27secher_nbiw45Jun 05, 2009 16:09:00 | Well, it isn't something I would use personally (unless they could make me a little less handsome- my masculine beauty is becoming a burden), but it sounds like a product my wife would be interested in- she has a difficult time finding a deodorant that doesnt irritate her. |
| #28stealthmarmotJun 05, 2009 17:34:19 | Pienso que ella no entiende una palabra del español. Funnily enough, i understood this sentence but not the previous one. |
| #29dremik-the-taupeJun 05, 2009 18:26:00 | Excellent. Good, practical Spanish to know first - how to explain that you don't speak Spanish. |
| #30EscherEnigmaJun 05, 2009 18:33:49 | I know a few phrases in spanish... "Lo siento, pero yo no puedo hablar en espanol. ¿tu hablas engles?" "¿Donde esta el bano?" "Yo no tengo un gato en me pantalones." The grammar might be off, and the utility of the third one is questionable. |
| #31toastedamphibianJun 05, 2009 18:38:20 | Shouldnt that be mi with an i? I don't like cats in my pants either. |
| #32EscherEnigmaJun 05, 2009 18:41:50 | Quite possibly. I don't pretend to be great at spanish. Hence being limited to three phrases. |
| #33dremik-the-taupeJun 05, 2009 18:52:46 | In the context of a thing that is yours, it would be "mi" |
| #34toastedamphibianJun 05, 2009 20:35:48 | Yo no tengo los gatos in mis pantalones! |
| #35DralenanJun 06, 2009 2:18:59 | "Yo no tengo un gato en me pantalones." You would be surprised how often I have used that one...and it's mis pantalones... ----------------------- Dralenan: What's this, then? 'Yo no tengo los gatos en me pantalones.'? 'I no have the cats in my single pants?' BRIAN: It-- it says, 'I do not have a cat in my pants'. Dralenan: No, it doesn't. What's Spanish for 'a cat'? Come on! BRIAN: 'los...gatos'? Dralenan: Singular indefinite of 'los' is...? BRIAN: Eh. 'el'? Dralenan: 'Un'. 'gatos'? What is 'gatos'? BRIAN: 'cat'. Let-- Dralenan: Singular for 'cat'. BRIAN: Uh, "gatos", "gatoos", uh, "gato" Dralenan: So 'gato' is...? BRIAN: Singular noun for 'cat'? Dralenan: But 'me pantalones' is an contradiction, so... BRIAN: So use the correct article for "my"... Dralenan: Which is...? BRIAN: Um, "el"! Dralenan: How many pants? BRIAN: Ah! 'el'-- Plural. Plural. 'los'. Dralenan: 'Los'. Understand? BRIAN: Yes, sir. Dralenan: Now, write it out a hundred times. BRIAN: Yes, sir. Thank you, sir. Hail Bahamut, sir. Dralenan: Hail Bahamut. If it's not done by sunrise, I'll cut your tail off. |

| #40dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 12:36:02 | Mandarin too? |
| #41zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 12:36:59 | Since when are racist comments ok to post? Hmmmmmmmmmmm? |
| #42sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 12:40:08 | well, you're not really.... I mean, when people don't understand them... HEY LOOK SOMETHING SHINY!!! |
| #43ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 08, 2009 12:42:49 | well, you're not really.... What? WHERE?!? ![]() |
| #44dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 12:43:15 | Well :P 白鬼! Well :P White Ghost! what bad luck! ______________________________________ 白鬼 = bái guǐ => "White Ghost", a Cantonese derogatory term for caucasians 糟糕 = zāo gāo => too bad / how terrible / what bad luck / terrible / bad |

| #46sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 12:53:04 | Well :P White Ghost! Where'd you find that info? |
| #47dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 12:54:13 | Where'd you find that info? On an online Chinese to English translator. Why? |
| #48zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 12:59:13 | On an online Chinese to English translator. Why? Prob wondering how a simple ghosty like yourself could crack the sophisticated language of your betters. :P |
| #49sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 13:00:24 | I'm just curious why he missed the point of the second bit. |
| #50dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 13:00:31 | Prob wondering how a simple ghosty like yourself could crack the sophisticated language of your betters. :P Well China is the center of the world. Right? :P |
| #51dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 13:02:56 | I'm just curious why he missed the point of the second bit. You mean "why the computer program missed the point of the second bit." 糟 = sediment, dregs; pickle 糕 = cakes, pastry Using a different feature of the same program. |
| #52sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 13:05:02 | You mean "why the computer program missed the point of the second bit." Well, in context the best translation would have been something else. Computers don't understand translating the point rather than the words. |
| #53zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 13:05:24 | Well China is the center of the world. Right? :P Yep. That's why everybody leaves their countries to go to school there. Oops. I mean to go to school in America. :P @Sier: It's all good. We're just havin' a li'l sport with ya. If it's ok to call a whitey some sort of race specific insult, it should be just as ok to take a bit o' ribbin' for doin' so. ;) |
| #54sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 13:06:21 | Oooo ribs. If I get ribs, you can do what you like. |
| #55dirtyfrankJun 08, 2009 13:06:33 | Well, in context the best translation would have been something else. Computers don't understand translating the point rather than the words. That's because only the literal meaning of a word is programmed into them and not all the other baggage and slang that they have. |
| #56zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 13:10:00 | Oooo ribs. If I get ribs, you can do what you like. Alrighty then. :P I don't like ribs much myself. Too much work for too crappy a meat. Plus all you end up tasting is the sauce anyway. Why not just buy the sauce an' eat it? You'll save time, energy and get less messy. |
| #57sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 13:11:19 | Alrighty then. :P But less nummy nummy fat is in the sauce than the ribs |
| #58zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 13:13:39 | Blech! I can't stand fatty meats. I chop all that crap off. It's not meat - which is what you're supposed to be eating - it's nasty slimey stuff! |
| #59sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 13:16:17 | nasty slimey - deliciousness!!!! :D |
| #60zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 13:18:27 | You is crazy. :P |
| #61EscherEnigmaJun 08, 2009 13:20:47 | You is crazy. :P That should have been evident by her posting here. |
| #62sier_labeguileuse_dupJun 08, 2009 13:21:12 | Yup, crazy and 30% butter. But that's just how cool I am. |
| #63zombie_babiesJun 08, 2009 13:23:39 | That should have been evident by her posting here. When you're right, you're right ... |
