My school (Oglethorpe University in Atlanta) is putting on a production of the show "Of Dice and Men".
This show needs some support though, so if you love D&D, and wish to support us, here is a link to a page where you can donate as much as you like: Kick Start Of Dice and Men

Even 1$ would really help, so please support! This is a great play about gaming. Here's a synopsis as well as some words from the playwright.

Synopsis
“The world of six thirty-something Dungeons and Dragons players is thrown into disarray when one of them announces he has enlisted in the Marine Reserves, and will soon be deployed Iraq.  In this blisteringly funny and deeply affecting play, playwright Cameron McNary examines why we game, what it means to grow up, and what true friendship looks like.”

In his introduction, playwright Cameron McNary writes:

“Around my 30th birthday, the following things happened:

I got married and became a father, and moved out of my parents’ house for the last time.

I was in a truly stellar production of a truly mediocre play.

I realized I had never seen any art about tabletop roleplaying geeks that was not suffused with self-loathing, if not just-plain-loathing.

My best friend enlisted in the Marine Reserves, and was deployed to Iraq.

This left me:

An adult, all of a sudden, albeit one with all sorts of childish hobbies.

Inspired to write, as only forced participation in bad art can make one.

Inspired to correct an oversight.

All kinds of conflicted... and with something to write about.

The basic questions I was struggling with are the same ones John Francis is faced with in the play:  How can one be an adult with these goofy, childish hobbies?  How can playing a stupid little game about wizards and orcs and unicorns mean anything in the face of my best friend leaving for war?  Why do I play at all really?

This play is my answer to those questions.”

And answer them he does with hilarity and poignancy while taking the utmost care with the sensitive topics of war and enlisting, and the effect it has on those left behind.  This play is a look at a tight-knit group of friends through the lens of their hobby, Dungeons and Dragons.  These are real, well adjusted people, not the non-functional cheeto-stained finger stereotypical “geeks” from high school sitcoms, and their relationships rather than the game itself takes precedence in this strikingly truthful and meaningful work.

Thank you so much!Laughing

My post is basically a repost of scam pms that are rather common here. Basically, we don't know you. You are a random person on the interwebz asking for money. Mabye 5 years ago you could get some money from us, but nowadays it seems like a scam.

Scam?  Spam?  Does it matter?

Well, even if it is a scam, it can't end up any worse than the first D&D movie.

What D&D movies? No such things ever existed.

You never saw Debbie does Dragon?

That would still be better than the garbage that never happened.

Ah! Yes, I understand your concern. I can't really prove to you that Oglethorpe is producing this show yet, as the website doesn't get updated with our season information until the school year begins. So, I will just say that this was just another way of looking for support, and if you don't trust it, we understand.

The internet is not always safe- so if this seems sketchy, by all means you can ignore it.
If I had a better way to reassure you that this is not a scam, I would. The only information I can give you right now is what you can find at Oglethorpe.edu, and on the kickstart page, which my director has put together.

I hope some people will feel ok with this pan handling and can donate some money.
We have a small department, and the school doesn't give us funding, so it's up to the students to promote and raise money.

If I can find more information for you all to feel more comfortable about the kickstart page, I will post it as soon as I can.

Thank you so much.

Speaking as the playwright, I can confirm that this is legit, as is the regional theatre premiere taking place at the Impact Theatre in Berkeley August 25:  impacttheatre.com/

The APO production at Oglethorpe is the first educational theatre production of the play, and is very deserving of your support.  I ask not for myself; my check already cleared.

Hope that sets your mind at ease, and I hope you can see your way to donating a little something to their cause.  Thanks!

Speaking as the playwright, I can confirm that this is a total con.  They're trying to scam every last cent out of every unsuspecting nerd they can find.  Do not listen to these people.

Now I don't doubt your truthiness, but see how easy that was?  This is the internet, man.  A world of lies.  Jus' sayin' net proof in the form of a message board post or email or any number of other things ain't proof.  If it was, there'd be a whole lot less Nigerian princesses in trouble, I imagine.  ;)

Speaking as the undead porkchop, I can confirm that we don't know if this is just a sock puppet account for some Nigerian con artists.
