Z_B, I think that was totally uncalled for. These guys made a video expressly to share their love of gaming with others and you have to crap all over it and call them "Douches"? That kind of sneering elitism is exactly what the hobby doesn't need.
Anyway as for the OP, while I'm not a big fan of the source material (The Black Eyed Peas, that is. Of course I love D&D!) I thought the video was fairly well put together despite the low budget. I got a chuckle out of it, so thanks for sharing.
Also... the singing... it made me stop half way through the video. I just couldn't take it anymore. I'm amazed I made it that long...

Of course it was uncalled for. That's what I do. Someone posts something here I don't particularly enjoy and I tell them so in exaggerated fashion. It's also got nothing to do with elitism. It's more about being tired of havin' a hobby you enjoy be associated with stuff that's uncomfortably awkward. See, cuz that's the stereotype. Anything reinforcing that is, IMO, bad for the hobby. The first D&D movie (if it ever actually happened) is a perfect example of this. Anybody - including WotC - that inspires douche chills when they make something hobby related that they share in a way that others outside of the hobby could see is a bad person and should be told as much for the good of the hobby and their own good as well. This is the stuff we don't need. We don't need more kids afraid to talk about their gaming in school cuz someone'll pop up a video like this and ask 'em some assinine question about 'so, is this how you guys are, hur hur?' or whatever. Basically this can and will be used to heap ridicule and shame on the hobby and the people that enjoy it. So yeah, bad. And what we don't need.
Now the question is, just how exaggerated is the above?

As to whether or not my video contributes to the general ridicule of the hobby, perhaps it does. After all, it is public. But it's embarrassing in the same way that Comicon is embarrassing, that is to say those who do not relate will make fun of it, but those who do relate will enjoy it regardless. It boosts their enjoyment of what they do, and brings in people who also would enjoy doing the same. And if it continues to build in popularity, as Comicon has done, eventually those pointing and laughing are the minority and feel a little foolish.
So this is not the image you want people to think of when you mention D&D gaming. I get that, and I understand. I am sure I would feel the same way about whatever you do see as the "proper" image of the game. Because I bet it's pretty boring, to me, and nothing I'd want to participate in. If you want to make your own video about it, feel free. And then I can have "D.C." about it.
To the rest of you, you'll be happy to know that the video is gaining momentum. It reached 1,000 views within the first 24 hours, and then hit 2,000 a mere 4 hours later. Thanks for watching!

But kids will make fun of anything that isn't their particular in-group, and it certainly isn't my or anyone else's responsiblity to portray things only in a way that will not get made fun of by anyone ever. In fact, I don't even think that's possible. If you choose to show something publically, there will be people who hate it or want to make fun of it. That's life, no worries. But there will also be people who relate to it, enjoy it, and want to share it.

If it had happened i would have watched it and subsequently blocked it from my mind based on how terrible it was. But since that didn't happen, clearly the movie didn't either.

Yes non-gamers will use it to ridicule us but to be honest - so what. Nothing new. As to girls playing, we have a young lady in our regular group that happens to be one of the best players there, and I am now introducing my daughters (19 and 14) to the wonderful world of D&D and they seem to be enjoying themselves too.
But then again we all love the Weird Al Yankovich parodies (especially his Saga Begins/American pie one) so we're just mad as a bag of kittens anyway!!!

Well, while our actual games tend to really be about 5 or 6 players, including the DM, with occasionally a few non-players there just to hang out, we really wanted to convey a fun party atmosphere. It is a music video, after all.
We envisioned that really only the people at the table were actually playing while the rest were just there for the social connection. But it's fiction, so interpret how you will.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
