| #2Robin_HoodlumOct 07, 2012 9:20:21 | Who is Dave Bautista? And do you think they could have found him a less capable opponent? ![]() |
| #3homicidal_squirrelOct 07, 2012 13:21:40 | Who is Dave Bautista? Some old guy who was in WWe and thought he could do MMA. He was wrong. That guy he went up against was terrible and he almost beat Bautista. Imagine if they put someone who actually had any amount of skill against him. He would have been crushed. |
| #4Robin_HoodlumOct 07, 2012 16:47:08 | Who is Dave Bautista? Sorta like Brock was crushed in his first fight with Mir? |
| #5homicidal_squirrelOct 07, 2012 18:38:19 | Who is Dave Bautista? No, I think that first fight with Mir was being won by Lesnar. The ref stopped it and then realized he'd messed up by doing so. He made up a bad excuse for stopping it (hits to the back of the head) and took points off of Lesnar. Then he restarted the fight with the two standing. He should have started it with the two fighters in the same position as before it was stopped. Also, Frank Mir is actually good. He has some ridiculous BJJ. He's broken a few arms in his career. So it wasn't surprising that Lesnar lost to a submission against Mir. What was surprising was the stoppage. If the first fight hadn't been stopped and restarted, I it would have ended up the same as the other Mir fight. Lesnar also had a fight before joining the UFC, and he won that fight. Granted, Min Woo Kim isn't some amazing super-MMA fighter, but at least Lesnar wasn't almost dropped by him. |
| #6zombie_babiesOct 08, 2012 9:11:52 | Yeah, this Bautista thing looks a lot more like what they did with Bobby Lashley than what Lesnar went through. Lesnar actually has some skill - he's just terrified of being punched in the face (wise career move, no?). Anyhoo, like HS said, Mir is legit and he's a terrible first fight for anyone who's not a BJJ black belt cuz if you don't know all the li'l tricks he'll set you up, make you look like a chump and sub you easy. Thing is, Lesnar beat him. Even though he lost to a leg lock, he only really lost cuz of a dumb ref. But yeah, BJJ can make people who aren't really versed in it look stupid. Roy Nelson on the TUF season he was a competitor told the audience how he was gonna beat Kimbo and then did it exactly as he said he would. Takedown, crucifix position (newb effective) and then punch 'til the ref stops it. Nobody gets crucifixed. And he was nice to Kimbo - light punches cuz he actually liked the guy. Still, BJJ can make any nub look stupid. What was I talking about? Oh yeah, they set Bautista up against a can. It'll work for a little while and then fail spectacularly - just like Lashley (although he seems to be more skilled) and Lesnar was way, way more legit. |
| #7homicidal_squirrelOct 08, 2012 12:47:37 | Yeah, I don't see Bautista getting better competition any time soon. He'll get a few more cans andthey get crushed by one of them. Also, Lesnar beat Carwin after his bout with diverticulitis. And Carwin isn't a can. That guy crushed his oppenents like they owed him money. So yeah, Lesner, while not the greatest UFC heavyweight, had some pretty tough competition. The guys that really beat him are the ones that had some crazy striking skills. Seriously, who wants Overreem to punch them in the face and kick them in the stomach? |
| #8zombie_babiesOct 08, 2012 13:25:02 | Yeah, no doubt on all counts. Bautista will eventually get Petruzelli'd and Lesnar was way more real of a deal than most people thought he'd be. He's just too one dimensional and inexperienced. Never learned to take a shot. Still, he had a legit chance to win any fight he was put into. And he never faced a can in the UFC. Even Herring has some cred. |
| #9homicidal_squirrelOct 08, 2012 13:38:53 | Yeah, no doubt on all counts. Bautista will eventually get Petruzelli'd and Lesnar was way more real of a deal than most people thought he'd be. He's just too one dimensional and inexperienced. Yup, Lesner was thrown in against top competition without a break in period. Never learned to take a shot. That's what happens when you start out in fake wrestling. You never take a real punch from someone with bad intentions. Still, he had a legit chance to win any fight he was put into. And he never faced a can in the UFC. Even Herring has some cred. Yeah, Herring is a pretty tough guy. He took Lesner to a D, and Lesner hit him with a takle/punch that sent Herring rolling backwards. How many people can say they took a hit like that? |
| #10zombie_babiesOct 08, 2012 14:17:23 | Yup, Lesner was thrown in against top competition without a break in period. He didn't want one. Thing is, he kinda didn't need one. That's what happens when you start out in fake wrestling. You never take a real punch from someone with bad intentions. Yep, just not enough experience. Yeah, Herring is a pretty tough guy. He took Lesner to a D, and Lesner hit him with a takle/punch that sent Herring rolling backwards. How many people can say they took a hit like that? That punch was pretty sick. ![]() |
| #11homicidal_squirrelOct 08, 2012 23:12:45 | He didn't want one. Thing is, he kinda didn't need one. That is true. He did fight that Min Soo Kim guy as his first fight. I guess that was enough of a break-in period. Even so, Min Soo Kim is a legit Judoka. He placed silver in the 96 Olympics. So it's not as if the guy was going to lay down and take it. Yep, just not enough experience. Yup. And it didn't help that when he did start getting expirience, it was by being hit by guys like Cain, who hits like a Mac-truck speeding into your face. That punch was pretty sick. Yes it was. ![]() |
| #12zombie_babiesOct 09, 2012 7:35:36 | Yup, gettin' punched by Carwin and Cain is, like, totally the wrong sort of intro to standup for anyone, really. |
