I don't like Marvel Comics, I'm not into superheroes, I wouldn't miss the genre if it went away, but this sort of thing should be banned by international law! My brain is cramping just imaginign the X-Men as some teeny-bopper drama. Ow! Ow! Make it go away!
I am confuzzled. Why does everyone automatically assume that everything that will come from this union will be G rated? There's no reason to believe that Disney will Disney-fy the comic stuff. The movies work as-is. There's no need to tinker with the style or content and they likely won't. Calm down. Jeebus.
I expect X-23 to be toned down a bit in xforce by this since disney doesn't exactly want psychologically totured characters to be heroes but expect nothing to happen to nightcrawler
I don't know, I find it kidna odd how people are freaking out about this too. Especially considering we're on the message boards for D&D (owned by Wizards of the Coast, owned by Hasbro). It's not like companies changing owners is unheard of.
Disney tries to Disney-fy EVERYTHING. Originally, Kingdom Hearts was just gonna be a Squaresoft* project, but then Disney bought their way into that and the next thing you know, you're a little boy swinging a key at shadowy crickets next to Donald Duck and Goofy. They Disney-fy EVERYTHING. Next thing you know, Wolverine will be having adventures with Mickey ****ing MOUSE.

I'm more interested in how this will impact universal studies theme park. They have more than a few rides baised on Marvel characters, who are now owned by their immediate competition across town. [Dr. Doom's dead drop, Spiderman Ride, ect.]
I would imagine that as long as Universal Studios has the license to produce those films that it won't be an issue (especially as it would take some time for Disney to get their own rides using the franchise up), but it may become a point of the negotiations when they try to renew the license in a few years.

Disney is a huge umbrella company that includes Touchstone and Miramax. It could very well do X-Men in the same vein as Gargoyles for TV, the movies would probably still be produced under the Marvel name.

Such things are usually dealt with explicitly in the terms of the deal.
It seems like a pretty straightforward case, though. Either Lee transferred his portion of the ownership of the characters to the company or he didn't. Although the financial shenanigans that led to SLMI's banruptcy (specifically, the massive fraud committed against Lee and the other shareholders by Lee's then-partner) might confuse things a bit.

Well I wish I could say it was nice knowing Marvel. But I can't, considering how bad they screwed up several major story lines over the last few years.
Even so, they didn't deserve to be bought by ....Disney.

Put simply, if there's value intrinsic to the brand purchased it is unlikely that said brand will undergo major restructuring. Marvel is pretty damned well known and those that know it know what it has produced. The backlash from 'Disney-fying' the brand would destroy any chance of making gains from the purchase - as evidenced by the ample nerd-rage/angst displayed here.
D&D was a popular game. Magic was a popular game. When WotC bought D&D, did they Magic D&D up? There are far too many examples out there that should alleviate any concern about the impending kiddifying of Marvel. It. Will. Not. Happen.

Yeah instead, they allowed their cars to become hideous monstrosities that definitely screams Volkswagen influenced. That company just hasn't been the same since it stopped being Rolls-Royce. And it is reflected in the body styles of the cars they make.

Hmm, so that happened...
Not sure how I should feel about it. Disney's track record is checkered to say the least, but I think they've got the financial acumen to not kill the golden goose...and it's not the comics so much as the film successes under the aegis of Marvel (even if a good many suck [Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Fantastic 4, etc etc.) Comics just aren't worth what they were (thanks Hollywood), but the films they're cannibalizing seem to be making a brisk trade, something Disney knows in spades all-too-well.
I guess, ppl get this (mis)conception of everything they do being some kid-friendly, watered down BS ala High School Musical, Jonas bros., and another flavor-of-the-week pop star which is pretty sad. They seem to have a penchant for taking normal kids and somehow they turn into sluts on parade (Britney, Xtina, Justin, etc), an apt metaphor for Disney as a whole.
However, 1 word, Pixar. They're not stupid. That was a very smart acquisition and there's a reason they always joke @ the Oscar's about the "Pixar award" (Best Animated...). It sets a good precident to which I'm hopeful, but the realist in me says, "Hey, did you forget some of their recent works, and all the PC pandering, stockholder manipulation, skyrocketing prices @ the Magic Kingdom, and America's kids getting exponentially stupider from some of their 'products'?" When they thaw out Walt, man, he's gonna' be pissed...
Upside: Perhaps, maybe, w/ Disney's deep pockets and some new blood @ the helm that isn't going to **** & pillage our childhood heroes/villains, it could be a smart move. Bigger financial backing into an overcrowded market might be the shot in the arm Marvel needs. Who knows. I pretty much gave up on them in early high school, graduated to more adult fare (Image, Vertigo, DDP, etc) because so much of it is the exact same fluff/filler from the 80's and so forth, just w/ better art...and a higher price.
All things considered, it's even steven, and if they're selling, so be it. There's $ to be made and that bottom line is the mantra down in Orlando, niche market sensibilities be damned. Stan's getting old, out of fresh ideas long ago, time to pass the torch? IDK. Is what it is.

That makes no sense at all. One is Turn Procedure. In which case EVERY GAME has been "Magified". Because every game has Turn Procedure.

That's a bad example. Micha already hit the draw mechanic. Do you even know what Tap, and Mana cost are?
Tapping involves turning your Magic card sideways for a mechanical effect. Usually this happens when a creature uses an ability, or is attacking. Mana Cost is not even worth my time to explain.
Simply put, I don't have to TAP my Cleric to use Healing Word, and none of my Fighter's abilities require a Mana Cost.
