Jul 19, 2011 13:44:03 Ok, so I'm trying to figure out just how broken I am. It's been sort of a thing lately. Anyhoo, I was wondering how far back ya'all can remember things. Recently I've heard people talking about remembering things from back when they were like twelve or five or whatever. I really, really have to try to recall things from when I was twelve and at best I get some fuzzy maybes. And five? Yeah, not ****in' happenin'. I mean, I have some vague recollections of past places of residence and some other stuff, but it's all fuzzy and when it pops up, my brain sorta just lets it all go. So yeah, just wonderin' how the rest of ya'all an' time work. With me, it's notsogood.

Jul 19, 2011 14:00:22 I remember embarrasing moments mostly. I think I might be subconciously trying to repress any memories of my teenage years. But I still remember little bits other people forget (usually things that came up in conversations).

Jul 19, 2011 14:11:02 I remember things sporadically from my childhood. I honestly don't think humans are even sentient until like 10-12 years old at this point.

Beyond that, I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday. So yeah, no memory here.

Jul 19, 2011 15:11:59 My earliest memory that's still somewhat distinct is my three year old birthday when I had a He-Man cake (I loved He-Man, I wore the sheath and carried a sword in it everywhere I went and threw a fit if someone tried to get me to leave the house without it). I have plenty of other early memories from that timeframe, but it's after about five that my memory is really decent. I have a few flashes that might be even older but I'm not really sure. They don't even really qualify as memories, just images with vague emotions attached really.

Jul 19, 2011 16:30:58 I can consciously recall things from as far back as when I was 4, but not much. To be honest, I don't even remember well what I was doing this time last week. Most things you do aren't terribly important, and the mind priortizes them as such while allocating storage. Unfortunately, this is probably the reason why most people don't know much about science, history, or the way their own government works.

Like for instance, the very earliest memeory that I can recall is that of drowning, which doesnt make anysense cause im still alive, ive never drowned, maybe its a memory from a past life? (insert Twilight Zone Theme music here) maybe its a sort of memory of being born? Who knows? but thats the earliest memory I have.

I also have recollections of my mother rocking me to sleep when I was probably about 6 months old, my mother maintains that theres no way I could remember this, but I described in pretty good detail the rocking chair we were in, the room and other furnishings at the time, she says I got all this from looking at old photographs, but there are none of that particular house, not that ive ever seen any way, weird huh?

I also remember being about 1 - 2 years old laying in a crib, and there was two pine trees in the closet, and one of them was explaining to the other that this is what a human child looked like and went on to explain that the crying sound I was making was a form of communication to get one of its parents, most likely the female, to come, judging from the smell, to change its diaper. That went on for a little while with one tree explaining to the other tree what was going on, and the other tree asking questions like they dont absorb nutrients from the ground? how odd.

So those are some of my earliest memories, I can only assume that my parents did alot of LSD back in the day.

Just a second ago, for example, I was trying to pull something from my very early years back onto the ol' brain and it's like my brain just stops. Like it just quits trying to pull memories. It's hard to explain. Oh well.

I have distinct images of my first year after being born. When my parents had me, they lived on the second floor of a duplex in detroit. I vividly remember the stairs leading up to the patio and doorway, but nothing of inside the home. They moved before my first birthday, so it was definitely in the first year. My mom is amazed that I am able to remember that.

I do have a ton of memories of my childhood, though. Very distinct and clear.

ZB, if you think you have some repressed memories, and it's important that you find out about them, have you thought about visiting a psychiatrist and possibly undergoing hypnosis?

I figure I'll just kinda keep on truckin'. I mean, whatever it is I'm doing seems to be working. Er, except for a few things. I know there's one thing I never properly dealt with and it does do something to me. I don't really wanna get into it - because it's pretty lame - but yeah, there's a thing or two I know about. I don't think I'll ever bother actually doing it, though. So far so good an' all that. ;)

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm also terrible with emotions. Like, it makes me really uncomfortable to tell my mom I love her. Like, for reals. I hate when she makes me say it. But yeah, me and stuff like time, memory and emotion don't get along. Heh.

Jul 20, 2011 10:07:48 I have a few snapshot memories from before I was 5, but 5 is basically where my memory starts. Obviously it's not perfect, but that's just priorities.

I've got a pretty solid memory for the most part, except from 2004 to 2010. Those years are a complete haze, full of massive holes and a total lack of distinct chronology.

Texas left alot of lasting memories.

Earlier than that? Things get random & fuzzy.

I figure I'll just kinda keep on truckin'. I mean, whatever it is I'm doing seems to be working. Er, except for a few things.
