| #1jhonesyMar 16, 2009 9:01:11 | I work for a major Canadian retail chain, specifically as the Manger in Charge of this area's Customer Service division. Legally I won't say which just in case, but anyway. So five days out the week I bike to work (read: two feet and two pedals) and sign in. From there my nine and half hour day (sometimes ten) consists of reading through new merchandise reports, making calls to other divisions in the area (keeping up-to-date on their activities), scheduling meets and inspections, reading through store documents of various degree, dealing with my seven-staff employee's, making "prank" calls to other stores under the guise of a customer to evaluate their service and etiquette, writing up reports, signing cheques and finally dealing with the truly troublesome customers who can't be helped through our lower divisions. How 'bout you? |
| #2The_White_SorcererMar 16, 2009 12:46:18 | I work for a major Canadian retail chain, specifically as the Manger in Charge of this area's Customer Service division. :D I work as an intern in the local video workshop, specializing in editing (though a big part of the job is filming the home games of the local hockey team). |
| #3doneisiMar 16, 2009 13:16:05 | I don't have a job. I do a lot of odd jobs for cash and have a lot of savings though. I'm waiting to go to college next semester. |
| #4IdolisMar 16, 2009 14:25:44 | I use to work. I don't anymore. But my old job was as a Laborer/Machine Operator/Lead Man in a factory that made silicone rubber masking materials (caps and plugs) for autoparts. The pay was good, the benefits were great and I got paid a dollar more per hour than everyone else because I would work any shift the company needed their production numbers to increase on. Yeah, I was the go-to-guy that got the job done. Not bragging, that's just how it was. Blue collar rocks. |
| #5KillerGMMar 16, 2009 14:32:19 | I'm a stay-at-home mom and an artist (though the latter has been put on hold for a while because of the former). Most rewarding job I've ever had! :D |
| #6krownhunter07Mar 16, 2009 14:32:42 | I was a Soldier in the Army. I defended my Country (aka killed for a living) and boasted the best skill at arms and physical training in my battalion. Now, however, I'm a broken vet who stays at home and tries to raise my family to be constructive members of society. |
| #7siroccoMar 16, 2009 14:39:35 | I work as a security guard at wharf site getting paid to sit 12 hours and answer these message boards while watching anime dvds. I LOVE MY JOB!! ![]() |
| #8zombie_babiesMar 16, 2009 14:41:29 | I work at the workin' place. |
| #9pigknightMar 16, 2009 14:41:49 | I'm a porn star. |
| #10EscherEnigmaMar 16, 2009 14:42:22 | Let's see... I make money by being an evening and night-time supervisor for the circulation desk at my university library, which includes just being an assistant to the circulation supervisor in general. I spend my money by being a part-time student at the same university, where I'm currently studying for a bachelors degree in computer science. Once I finally get that out of the way I'm looking into working on my masters in library science. |
| #11moonslayerMar 16, 2009 14:45:19 | I work as a security guard at wharf site getting paid to sit 12 hours and answer these message boards while watching anime dvds. So when the bad guys on "24" sneak into the country they come through your post? :P I work for a merchandising company that does product resets, service visits, and assembly projects for major retailers. |
| #12torynMar 16, 2009 14:47:03 | I haven't worked since September. I used to torch steel wire that went inside of Michelin tires, as well as being a material handler. However, my leg caught fire (the factory did not have any chaps), giving me a serious 3rd degree burn over 75% of my lower right leg. This caused me to have to get a skin graft that didn't take, having to draw workman's comp, and me to lose my job when I was coming out of the doctor's office in October, 3 weeks after my mother died.(I could hardly walk without the use of a walker, and they said I was not healing fast enough). The doctor released me last month, and the company I worked for did not have any work. I filed for unemployment, and the company fought it, saying they fired me because I was "physically unable to do my job." The state of Indiana laughed at them, ruling in my favor. I almost had to get a lawyer and go after them for wrongful termination/ firing me while I was injured. The whole ordeal sucked. Since then, the company has shut their doors, and relocated 100 miles away. |
| #13pigknightMar 16, 2009 14:49:15 | How much do chaps cost? Just go to your local kinky costume store. I don't think they wanted to be seen in a kinky costume store. |
| #14ShiftkittyMar 16, 2009 14:51:08 | Delivery driver for a denture lab. By the way, if you ever find yourself sitting in a dentist's chair waiting for your false teeth/stayplate/mouthguard/retainer/nightguard/etc., and your appointment was for 10 AM and at 11 you're STILL WAITING, it's because some moron has decided that speed limits be damned, if 25 in a 50 zone is good enough for him/her, it's good enough for everybody. And if you're the moron doing it, I hope you choke on your dentures. |
| #15torynMar 16, 2009 15:01:25 | How much do chaps cost? Just go to your local kinky costume store. lol. They probably would have been jealous. |
| #16jhonesyMar 16, 2009 15:06:04 | Some of these are pretty funny, others serious and others, well I wish you the best. My job isn't entirely secure at the moment either, we're expecting mass lay-offs within this month and nobody is really safe. Well, except for the BBEG in charge of the shebang that is. For the soldier, I salute! Even if it's not my country I know that military service is one of the most dangerous and patriotic jobs you can have. Half of my own family is in the Corps, so I know the feeling of anxiety if nothing else. I would have joined too, if I wasn't more then some tall lanky mofo. Funny, even growing up on a farm and I look like I've never lifted a bail of hay in my life. Stupid metabolism. For the burned leg guy, I say "ouch" and offer some cooling lemonade. It's ridiculous that companies would try to fudge their own workers like that, though its nothing new. I've worked many jobs in my young life, from manual labour to sales, and there is one thing I've learned: No matter how good you are, how dedicated, no matter how much you sacrifice you're nothing but an expendable number. So these days I do my job, and I do it damn well, but I never give anything over 100% without guarantee's in writing that I'll get compensation for my time and energy. |
| #17pigknightMar 16, 2009 15:13:48 | I was kidding by the way about my "job". |
| #18jhonesyMar 16, 2009 15:17:14 | You're such a liar. My cousin swears he went too a porn bar late last night after shots and saw some porky-looking guy named The Knight Pig doing an impromptu piece on the counter... ![]() |
| #19doneisiMar 16, 2009 15:21:51 | You're such a liar. My cousin swears he went too a porn bar late last night after shots and saw some porky-looking guy named The Knight Pig doing an impromptu piece on the counter... He does that on his spare time. It's a Hobby not a job. |
| #20RamienMar 16, 2009 15:32:49 | Tech support for the local cable television/internet company. Plenty of time to lurk about forums, but I do need to deal with people who are much worse than the standard forum troll. |
| #21ciaranMar 16, 2009 15:46:52 | Commercial electrician. |
| #22torynMar 16, 2009 15:56:13 | Some of these are pretty funny, others serious and others, well I wish you the best. Thanks for the kind words. This time off has given me time to track down holes in my 3.5 collection, as well as do some reading on the Occult and other subjects. |
| #23pigknightMar 16, 2009 15:57:03 | And buy chaps from a kinky costume store? |
| #24torynMar 16, 2009 16:01:22 | And buy chaps from a kinky costume store? LOL. No, my girlfriend will not let me She is worried that I will go bare butt in them. That is the same reason she does not want me to wear a kilt. If I had one, I would wear it a lot. |
| #25pigknightMar 16, 2009 16:03:13 | Tell her she might like to ride your horsie. (>~o^)> |
| #26Mad_JackMar 16, 2009 20:59:56 | Have you ever seen the coin-operated laundry machines in a laundromat? Those metal coin boxes on the top? I make those. I'm a punch press operator at the factory where the boxes are made. Specifically, I run the machines that unwind the long coil of 2mm thick sheet metal they're cut from, slice the coil into pieces about 1.5 by 2 feet, and then punch out the holes and cut-outs before bending them into the box shape. Then I stack them on a pallet and send them to the welding line to be assembled. So, next time you take the side of your computer case off, try holding it in one hand and swinging it around, or holding it straight out in front of you. Then imagine it's twice as thick, three times as heavy, and you've got one in each hand. And then imagine doing it for eight hours a day. I have forearms like Colossus from the X-Men, lol. There's 154 of them on a pallet, and we do 4-5 pallets a day. We wear those cheap grey leather and green-and-pink-striped cloth "gardening" gloves you find at places like Home Depot, and one pair of gloves usually lasts about two days before having so many holes and tears that they come apart. Oh, yeah... Public Service Announcement: Metal is sharp. :D I bleed a lot at work, and have holes in most of my shirts now. |
| #27siroccoMar 17, 2009 3:12:39 | So when the bad guys on "24" sneak into the country they come through your post? :P No. First of all i doubt i am even in the same country as you (so don't go getting paranoid that i am letting terorists in the country, secondly where i am is further in from the mouth of the river, there are so many places better than where i am that people could sneak in WITHOUT being caught. |
| #28jhonesyMar 17, 2009 7:03:27 | Sounds like a nice little cover up to me, you lazy fiend! And yes, I was just teasing you. |
| #29tha_fameMar 17, 2009 9:31:35 | I am a staff writer/photographer for a weekly newspaper. |
| #30torynMar 17, 2009 14:03:17 | Have you ever seen the coin-operated laundry machines in a laundromat? I know what you mean. I used to work at a factory (up until 2004) where I would run a stamping press with 3 20 ton dies that made parts for Toyota. I also ran the overhead crane, doing my own die changes and prep work for die maintenance. There was not a day that went by that I didn't get holes in my shirts or pants. What sucked even worse was that the material used for our uniform (non mandatory) shirts was so thin, it was a lot like tissue paper. I went through about 2 rolls of duct tape a week to cover those holes lol. |
| #31pigknightMar 17, 2009 16:40:20 | You know that ring around bottles near the cap? I put a patent on that so I don't have to work. (JK) |
