Maybe if proper licensed surgeons were willing to do it, people wouldn't be getting unregulated idiots to do it instead. Just a thought. Given how widespread body modification is (the modern West's general distaste for it is the rare exception, historically), it clearly fills a genuine need in some people. IMO, it would make more sense for medical professionals to do whatever they can to make sure it's being done as safely as possible, rather than simply turning their noses up at it and writing strongly worded articles telling people how horrible and dangerous it is. Maybe that means the best thing these concerned medical professionals can do is start doing these procedures themselves for those that really want them.

#7 LFK Jul 05, 2011 0:47:31	I dunno, I almost think that a "warning" is really all that's needed here. It's like the health department coming out and saying "watch out for restaraunts with rats, there's been a problem recently." We don't need doctors to come cook our food, just an awareness that there's cleaner/dirtier places to eat. Make people aware that there's a string of problems with hazardous infections from some "surgons" and the community will (hopefully) respond with self-regulated quality control for known issues, like cleanliness  and care for the modded areas. It's not that hard, I know: I have some scarification. It's an open wound, treat it as such. If you're getting something implanted make sure it's non-pourous stone or surgical-quality steel and STERILIZE THE LIVING F*** OUT OF EVERYTHING! That's really the #1 mistake here. Also if it looks/feels infected it probably is. Go to the clinic and get some anti-biotics sooner rather than later.
