Does this belong here?

This thread is not about itself in asking if it belongs here, but more to the point of does this forum belong here at all.

While this is called the Off-Topic forum, I apologize in advance for making an On-Topic discussion.

Gleemax if the forum network for Wizards.com website. D&D has a few forums in which discussion of aspects and parts or the whole of D&D can be discussed (so long as it doesn't say anything negative about D&D or anyone express any dislike for any aspect of D&D and every post MUST be about how everyone loves anything that WotC makes).

So in the interest of having a decent forum does the D&D forum require an Off0Topic area at all since there are other locations on Gleemax.com that can handle this? Does it make any sense for there to bee off-topic areas in all centralized issue forums?

I thought the idea of having a forum devote to D&D was to discuss D&D. So why is there even a need for an off-topic forum within the D&D group of sub-forums?

So why does this forum even exist? If anyone wishes to discuss something other than D&D, seek the proper forum. this website is not a fanmade site with limited space for creating a single forum only, there are hundreds of forums, and Gleemax promotes creating new ones for various things.

So whose bright idea was it that an off-topic forum would ever be needed on Gleemax.com? Any topic should have its own forum under the model that Gleemax has set forth as being the home of the gaming community on the internet. So the only thing really off-topic would be something non-related to gaming, and thus does not belong in the D&D forums, but belongs in the main area of Gleemax where any other non-gaming related discussion belongs.

Do the people running the forums actually understand how to run forums?

Discuss: Does this forum need to exist, and does such an off-topic forum need to exist anywhere on Gleemax?

The Off-Topic Tavern is for anything that is not related to D&D, but you wish to discuss with the D&D community. Such as webcomics, movies, books, television, interesting non-D&D web articles, etc... as long as they fall within the acceptable forum topics as per the Code of Conduct.

Look at the Rec Room for examples.

Since it will inevitably be asked "What is the difference between this and the Rec Room?" I will answer that as well. Community Management feels that each community should have its own off topic forum to discuss things with people of a similar mindset (for the Off Topic Tavern it's D&D gamers), the Rec Room is the place to go to discuss these topics with all the members of the boards (IE the TCG, RPG, and other gamers).

If you want to discuss an upcoming movie and only want to discuss it with D&Ders then post it here, if you would like a more input than just D&Ders post it in the Rec Room (Which is in the Gleemax area under Gaming Culture).

Hopefully that clears things up. :D

Anyways. If you want threads removed from C&C, leave a list in this thread here. Include the link to the thread, the title of the thread, a brief (one or two sentence) summary, as well as which of the new forums you think it should go in. I will take a look at the threads, and, as long as re-opening it won't cause a flamewar to erupt (that is to say that there is actual discussion, not simply arguing) I will bring it forward to Webster (D&D VCL) and ask him to move it. (I should point out that I will be giving the posters the benefit of the doubt.) I will also give him a pointer to this thread so that he can see the requests that you guys have made. Depending on how many requests you guys make, it may take a couple of days for me to get to them all, as well as a couple of days for Webster to move them.

Let me know where you think the healing one should go.

Here are the forums:

Character Building
Character Optimization
Monsters
Equipment & Magic Items
Rules Q&A
General Discussion

Update - The request is working its way up the hierarchy. As soon as I find out information, I will let you know.

Why would you come to a D&D forum to discuss something not related to D&D?

Because you want to.

I have been informed that such requests are indeed possible. However, as I mentioned, I am not the only one that will be looking at the threads that are being requested to be moved. Webster (D&D VCL) and CM will be also looking at the threads to make sure that they are not flamewars waiting to be re-started.

Well I personally don't think it would "belong" in any of those. I don't understand why things were wrong before, with having independant forums for independant aspects.

The first two shouldn't even exist and are the same thing. Min-maxing forums.

Monsters is a good example of what the forums should include. It has a dedicated purpose for an aspect of D&D.

E&M could just be items, but also another good forum because it gives focus on a good topic.

Rules Q&A...well With all about 4th edition I have seen there has only been Q, and never or hardly any A. Who is supposed to be answering these things? Is this the place to get official responses from designers on how they created the concept to better know how to properly make it work for individual groups, within the RGPA, etc? OR, is this forum for just general discussion of the rules thenselves that don't fit anywhere else?

A Q&A forum only functions if you are getting answers from the authors themselves, otherwise it is only discussion becuase no answer will be correct, but a matter of opinon.

General Discussion is often a trash-can forum for when admins cannot think of what is realy needed for specific sub-forums. So I guess the thread would belong in the trash-can forum since the one about rules is meant for some kind of Q&A.

I haven't read all threads, but maybe an idea would be to sticky a thread request to have brought back fromt he archived area for the purpose of discussing topic that weren't just critical, otherwise each thread except for the YAY!, and DOOM! threads need to be relocated to their proper new forums.

Why are their two forums for min-maxing anyway? It shouldn't even be a part of the game, but has two forums, while races and classes both lost their forums?

Thanks for stopping by and whatever has already been done in the interest of salvaging the decent discussions from the archived forums.

Thats where I thought it would be the best fit as well. I will put in the request today. I have made the request here.

Errmmm, no. I am not going to request that *every* thread be moved. If people want a thread moved, they can ask for it to be moved, and chances are good that it will be moved. I am not going to create needless work for the WizOs and CM by getting them to move discussion topics that won't end up being discussed.

No, no, no. While I think it is the responsibility of the administration to salvage all threads that deserve it because they are the ones that needlessly locked an entire forum with potential for having threads with actual discussion, what I mean is you, or someone else make a thread and sticky it.

Now you have an official thread at the top of a forum. That thread requests for users to identify other threads that may need to be brought back to life.

this way the users can make the suggeestions in a single place, and those needing to be informed of what thread needs review and unlocking/reloaction, can find them in a single place for the express purpose of those requests.

Rather than looking for suggestions in this thread, have one specific for asking for threads that should be reviewed and brought back, if administration it not up to fullfilling it jobs and requires the users to do part of the job for them.

Not only does this make it easier for people to know where to find if threads have returned, but people to see if one has already been requested and TPTB to see in one quick place which threads have ben requested.

When a thread is approved or denied the request to return, then the posts making the request can be editted to reflect the decision with reason why it may have ben decided NOT to return so the request is not duplicated. Deleting a post wouldn't work as it would mean a thread may be requested 400 times. Deleting posts not directly requestin a thread to return would make sense as they would be in the way and the thread for thread return requests shouldn't really have any discussion since its focus is on identified what threads the community feels should return to the administration.

So it does not require that every thread be requested to be moved by YOU. It is something that should have been planned for with the reorganization by competent administration. The point is having a single place asily finding by all parties in which threads can be requested by USERS to be re-opened to continue discussion. ;)

Ahh. I misunderstood what you were asking.

Sorry 'bout that.

I will create a thread in Community Business, and see if CM wants to sticky it. for a couple of weeks.

FIN-A-FREAKING-LY.

Please say they're also finally going to start doing this with newly started threads instead of just going 'oh well, put your head in the sand if it's flamebait'.

Wizards already has an off-topic forum. True. But I've never posted there because 90% of the people there only play magic. I will and have posted on this new off-topic forum. So its creation completely satisfies me.
