| #1baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 22:07:38 | Alrighty, here's another venting thread! Bear with me! So, I get my report card, and it turns out that I accidentally forgot to complete an assignment, so a grade in one of my classes (a filler one, not anything important) is a C. That's my lowest one. My dad flips out, getting mad at me, and saying I don't care about my education, and that I'm never gonna be anyone important, and that all I'll be able to do is work at a McDonalds. All my other grades range from B- to an A. the only reason I had that class for last semester (I wanted to drop it) is because he threw a fit until I caved. Did I really do anything wrong? Am I at fault here? |
| #2dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 22:11:05 | sure. |
| #3baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 22:12:42 | sure what? this means that my old man is justified for shouting at me like I had killed someone? |
| #4Dark_StrykeJan 27, 2009 22:13:32 | Well... you are at fault, becuase it was you who didn't complete the assignment. That said, it's a filler course, so your dad is kind of overreacting. I'm sure he'll come around. |
| #5baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 22:16:01 | I'm not talking to him right now. I realize I'm at fault for not completing the assignment, but it's a passing grade, and I don't deserve to be treated the way this ass treats me. It's not like I'm getting D's and F's. I get this **** from him and my mom all the time. And he pretty much threw a tantrum to keep me in that class, just because he wanted me to do it. He even admitted it! |
| #6dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 22:18:34 | Well... you are at fault, because it was you who didn't complete the assignment. Yep. And your dad is a dick. My parents over react like that too. My mom gets angry with me if I have a B, but that is because she knows I can get an A with almost no effort. I have a B average because I never try or apply myself when it comes to doing school work. I however am not bothered if I have an F or an A in a class, for all I care about is if I come out of the class having learned something. I take a class to learn, not to get a grade. |
| #7baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 22:20:41 | I already knew how to use computers too! I've been playing around with them since I was 3! I don't need a computer class! I have been getting crap from my old man like this for about 4 years, when him and my mom started having serious issues! And I'm ****ing sick of it! If I had anywhere else to go, I'd be gone in a heartbeat! |
| #8dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 22:21:48 | If they are having problems then maybe they should play D&D together. ;) |
| #9baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 22:25:39 | They aren't interested in it: and I'm not sure that they're intelligent enough to learn how to play it. |
| #10dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 22:29:29 | They must be if you were able to learn. |
| #11baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 22:31:13 | I have the time and inclination. They have the former, but not the latter. They aren't very imaginative. They'd only pretend to learn and play because they feel bad about how they treat me. |
| #12Authw8Jan 27, 2009 23:11:54 | I recommend that you chill out and let your parents do their thing. Everyone needs to let off a bit of steam sometimes, including your folks, so don't let their ranting bother you. Words can't hurt you if you don't let them. |
| #13baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:14:24 | Pfft. Easy for you to say. I think I've done well for myself, considering that i've put up with this constantly for 4 years. Only recently have I started going nutty. |
| #14dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 23:17:15 | BoE, your parents are probably only angry with you, or seem angry with you, because they are using you as a vent for something else. Just try to be calm and collected when they get upset with you. Try and return such treatment with being nice and showing that you can understand things from their point of view. After a while they may not overreact quite as much. They may even become nicer towards you and decide they wish to have a conversation with you rather than chew you out. |
| #15pigknightJan 27, 2009 23:20:07 | Yep. QFT |
| #16baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:23:01 | BoE, your parents are probably only angry with you, or seem angry with you, because they are using you as a vent for something else. I'm sick of them venting and taking things out on me because of their relationsip issues! When someone tells me I'm not good for aqnything, and that I'm a burden, how do you expect me to feel? I thought my parents were suposed to pick me up when I was down, instead of shove me over and kick me! My bro and sis try to help, but they end up yelling at my parents, which only makes things worse! Not to mention that my brother has had a falling out with my dad ever since my bro and his gf broke up! All I ever do is cause problems! |

Instead if you try to be kind, understanding, and help out without being asked, then you will show them that you are good for something. |
| #18baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:28:27 | I do that stuff. Whenever they're in a good mood, they tell me what a good boy I am, but they second they get ****** off, I'm a worthless slacker. Why bother trying anymore, if I can't ever make them happy? |
| #19pigknightJan 27, 2009 23:29:22 | Calm down, play a video game, write Puppet Fan Fic. |
| #20baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:33:13 | What do you think I spend all day doing? Escaping from my problems. Playing videogames. Making detailed D&D cahracters. And then I get to hear them mumbling about how all I do is sit around and play my "stupid" games. Becuase they do stuff that's too physically difficult (dad's almost 60, mom's 55), instead of saying, "Hey. Go do this for me." Because no matter how mad I am at them, I will help if they ask. But I can't help if I don't know they need it. |
| #21dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 23:34:04 | I do that stuff. Whenever they're in a good mood, they tell me what a good boy I am, but they second they get ****** off, I'm a worthless slacker. Why bother trying anymore, if I can't ever make them happy? Do it all the time, and stop getting so butt hurt about everything. |
| #22toastedamphibianJan 27, 2009 23:34:49 | Bane, how old are you? |
| #23dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 23:35:24 | What do you think I spend all day doing? Escaping from my problems. Playing videogames. Making detailed D&D cahracters. It seems like you do nothing all day, so their comments are sort of justified. |
| #24dirtyfrankJan 27, 2009 23:35:54 | Bane, how old are you? He's 16 or so. |
| #25baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:38:06 | @ TA: 16. @ DF: I spend several hours studying, chopping firewood, and exercising my dogs. So I actually do stuff. I've still been doing this, but not as enthusiastically. I spend about 2-4 hours a day studying, and another 2 doing chores. When I study, I'm also on the forums. |
| #26pigknightJan 27, 2009 23:40:01 | Study part: Me to! ...Damn hoolagin get off my metaphorical lawn! |
| #27baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:43:34 | I'm just stating that b/c I know everyone thinks I spend all day on the forums and nothing else. I'm actually a week and a half ahead on my science homework, and I've finished all my other work that I have right now, and I don't haev to turn it in till the middle of next month. (I'm homeschooled.) |
| #28pigknightJan 27, 2009 23:44:55 | Ok, so we aren't the same people. *Sigh of relief.* |
| #29baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:46:56 | Go take a look at my other thread. That's gonna confirm it for you. |
| #30toastedamphibianJan 27, 2009 23:47:56 | Really? You spend 2 hours a day studying and still get b-'s? Fail. Then agian, mabey school is just harder where you are. (Schools here suck). Anyhoo, your 16. Your having conflicts with your father. Not exactly new ground for humanity here. Get job. Move out. It is about that time. This is how you know. Crazy how your dad started reallying giveing you a hard time when you turned ~12/13. Funny how that coinscited with you becoming a teenager, and how its begenning to really bother you now, at around 16.... It's the classic dynamic. Move up, move out, move on. |
| #31pigknightJan 27, 2009 23:50:26 | He's home schooled. I think in the middle of no where where there's no nonrelative girlz. Teenager Crazy family (see he's home schooled) He's home schooled Parent's don't play D&D (even though it's a highly theraputic activity, that can even show how you view yourself subconciously). |
| #32baneofelvesJan 27, 2009 23:53:07 | right on all of it Piggy! And remember, I'm also extremely violent! I have this habit of getting into knife fights and choking people. |
| #33pigknightJan 27, 2009 23:58:16 | You gotta stop that. Pacifism ftw? |
| #34toastedamphibianJan 28, 2009 0:02:18 | I dont see how his being homeschooled has anythign to do with him not needing to move out..... |
| #35baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 0:02:32 | When I snap, I lose it. that's part of the reason I was relocated out to the middle of nowhere. So that way I couldn't get inot anymore fights. Some knife, some with sharp pencils, some with my fists. And I was 12. I've had problems since I was 10, but they've been getting me a lot lately. Like the past 2 years. I have serious anger issues. |
| #36pigknightJan 28, 2009 0:04:05 | Sinds like a friend of mine... ...ok here's what cha do. Get an ez job and pay for your own therapy? |
| #37dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 0:07:02 | When I snap, I lose it. that's part of the reason I was relocated out to the middle of nowhere. So that way I couldn't get inot anymore fights. You need to learn how to not be a douche. I suggest that you learn how to meditate. |
| #38pigknightJan 28, 2009 0:08:25 | Or pick up that tree cutting thingy that Japanese (?) guys do. |
| #39baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 0:08:25 | I dont see how his being homeschooled has anythign to do with him not needing to move out..... I used to go to a public school. I live 3 hours from the enarest city, which is why I'm homeschooled. i didn't read your earlier post. I don't have a driver's license, so I can't move out. I'm pretty much incapable of getting a job. It's been bothering me a lot, but I'm at my breaking point. It wasn't as bad at first, but it's gotten worse over the years, as him and my mom's relationship deteriorated. I think I'll be equipped to get out at 18. |
| #40baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 0:20:18 | OK everyone. I talked to my parents (note: not shouted: talked.) And we've sorted out our differences. So I prolly won't flip out till a month or two later. We can derail this, like the other one. I realize this is a sudden shift. I didn't make anything up, though. |
| #41pigknightJan 28, 2009 0:22:26 | You might want to try to sit your family down and get a game of D&D rolling. As I said before it shows how you guys view yourselves. ...BTW I can always stat up Puppet if need be. :P |
| #42baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 0:24:25 | Don't think that's gonna work. I'm not sure if I wanna go delving any deeper into my mind. I think I unconsciously block out part of myself that's twisted and creepy. And needs to die. NOW, derail time! I gotta go to bed, but I trust you'll get things started right. |
| #43dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 0:24:33 | Since his problems are solved, I think we should let this thread die. |
| #44pigknightJan 28, 2009 0:28:57 | As soon as someone tells me what that tree thing is called. |
| #45dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 0:30:39 | Tree thing |
| #46pigknightJan 28, 2009 0:31:20 | Bonzai. Thx. Ok. Casts finger of death on thread. |
| #47etarnonJan 28, 2009 3:19:56 | Lol, it's not Banzai, the fatal charge, it's Bonsai. My solution to crap like this was becoming emancipated and joining the US Navy. A week later, pay check in hand, people were yelling at me, telling me what to do, what to do, and study in school. Making a few hundred a week. Happy me, now at 43, I'm retired. And my parents still treat me like crap, so I just don't deal with them. Maybe they'll die soon. And OP, seek some spirituality. Valuing your anger and darkness typically is a bad path, but up to you. Good luck. |
| #48minja_dupJan 28, 2009 12:34:16 | I'm not talking to him right now. Your fault for not completing the assignment and not getting a passing grade. I always think if I am not living up to my potential I am cheating myself. I try harder. I will not accept second best for myself. But that is me. Don't blame him for your grade or being in the class. You class, your grade, your responsibility. Accept it and move on. Even if he isn't being adult about it you could be. |
| #49KobajagrandeJan 28, 2009 12:40:56 | So without reading the entire topic, let me guess: teenage angst? |
| #50baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 12:59:17 | Your fault for not completing the assignment and not getting a passing grade. I always think if I am not living up to my potential I am cheating myself. I try harder. I will not accept second best for myself. But that is me. Um. Minja. A C is a passing grade. |
| #51dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 14:34:24 | I will not accept second best for myself. Second place is just a fancy word for (the first) loser. |
| #52dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 14:35:32 | Um. Minja. A C is a passing grade. It's passing but it isn't the best that you could have done. Since you could have done better, the C is not a good representation of your abilities. |
| #53baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 14:37:31 | True. But to be honest, the class was useless. Which is why didn't really care. For the important stuff, I work HARD. Now *casts finger of death at the thread* let it die. |
| #54dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 14:43:06 | True. But to be honest, the class was useless. Which is why didn't really care. Forthe important stuff, I work HARD. Now *casts finger of death at the thread* let it die. There is always something useful that can be gained. Some people just don't look hard enough to see it. |
| #55moondoggyJan 28, 2009 14:44:04 | AACK I IS DYING!! NOOOO I HAD A FAMBLY!!!! OH DA HUMANIDDY!! AAAAAARRRGH *DEATHRATTLE* There, now dead. |
| #56baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 14:46:07 | @ HATER: Yeah, but you guys got me back to my happy self. Left to my own devices, I'd be mad for a week. Thanks everyone. @ DF: I already know how to use Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. That's what the class was teaching. @ Moondoggy: thank you |
| #57ixien_kotharJan 28, 2009 14:46:08 | Ok, I was with you right up until the knife fights and chocking people part. I think a C is small potatoes vs knife fights. I had a friend on my rugby team in high school who had a scar over his eye because his brother threw a butter knife at him. Yes, a butter knife. Anywho, good luck with your grades and for the love of god, don't bring a knife to a gun fight. That is all. |
| #58dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 14:47:47 | @ DF: I already know how to use Microsoft Word and Powerpoint. That's what the class was teaching. Then the class is practice and practice is always good. |
| #59crimson_lancerJan 28, 2009 15:00:33 | Then the class is practice and practice is always good. UGH. The class is pointless and a waste of his time. He should be taking an AP class or a Work Internship class or something and either getting college credit or doing something useful with his time. The brain can only accept so much actual practice before it just spits out regurgitated answers it's seen a million times before in previous practice sessions. And over-reacting, super-paranoid parents SUCK. For everyone. However, at least they recognize SOME of your achievements. It's far worse to actually TRY, and then have no one notice at all. Just makes you feel like doing nothing is a totally OK option. :S |
| #60dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 15:04:57 | If the class is/was 100% useless to him then he should not have taken it. He should not have given into his father but rather should have put together a will developed argument to present to his father so that his father would see that he didn't need that class. |
| #61toastedamphibianJan 28, 2009 15:06:58 | Thats what she said. Edit: Yah, this is now quitre seperated from what it was supposed to refrence. Make of it what you will. |
| #62baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 15:11:08 | Ok, I was with you right up until the knife fights and chocking people part. I don't get into fights anymore. |
| #63baneofelvesJan 28, 2009 15:13:30 | If the class is/was 100% useless to him then he should not have taken it. He should not have given into his father but rather should have put together a will developed argument to present to his father so that his father would see that he didn't need that class. Sometimes, I'd rather not get into a argument with him, I'' end up hearing about it a month later when I wake up at 4 in the morning and my parents are talking. ANYWAYS! *casts finger of death at thread* LET IT DIE! PROBLEM SOLVED THIS TIME, NOT PUSHED AWAY! |
| #64dirtyfrankJan 28, 2009 15:29:28 | Ya, we could stop responding but I know that if I respond that you will respond, and as long as you keep responding I can keep the thread going. If you stop responding then it will be no fun. |
| #65batshidoJan 28, 2009 16:00:56 | I hate to be a killjoy, but I passed on the close request to CS. In the meantime, enjoy your profanity thread. |
| #66pigknightJan 28, 2009 20:51:53 | Inb4lock! |
