| #1sfdragonOct 03, 2011 23:41:39 | there are reasons why you are supposed to tell your children not to run behind cars and to stay close by you. what happened to the child while unfortunate, does not excuse the parents actions. my parents always told me while I was growing up to look both ways and look again before you cross the street. even been told never to cross behind cars too. |
| #2jetshieldOct 04, 2011 0:08:56 | He was in the wrong for running the stop sign, for speeding What stop sign? It happened in the middle of the parking lot. A feel for the driver, honestly. Having a child dash out of nowhere is one of my worst nightmares. There was no way he could have seen her and reacted in time to prevent it. |
| #3pluisjenOct 04, 2011 1:26:01 | "Because we didn't witness the fight or the punching, it falls in the realm of a misdemeanor," said Carlos. The moral of the story: if the police isn't watching, you're not doing anything wrong! This is all pretty sad. |
| #4zombie_babiesOct 04, 2011 9:51:23 | That mom was pretty hawt, though. Right? |
| #5draco1119Oct 04, 2011 10:28:51 | He was in the wrong for running the stop sign, for speeding EDIT: Just saw the video. Definitely agree that the MILF is lying to make herself (and her family) look better. "He might have caught an elbow". Yeah, like forty-six times. I heard mod justice is pretty common in Haiti. I am not really shocked. ![]() That mom was pretty hawt, though. Right? The crazy, stupid ones always are. ![]() |
| #6draco1119Oct 04, 2011 11:23:56 | And you would have gotten the hammer for something the filter missed. I speak from experience. Of course, if the filter was set up properly, it would filter the b-word and compound words containing the s-word. And it wouldn't filter the name of a popular Irish stout. |
| #7zombie_babiesOct 04, 2011 11:51:33 | The crazy, stupid ones always are. Does it help? I dunno. Sure don't hurt, though. Damn, homey. She fine. ![]() |
| #8sfdragonOct 04, 2011 16:49:54 | I wonder if that bimbo and her family are aware that they can face civil charges on top og the mis demeanor charges. |
| #9TimmehOct 04, 2011 19:35:05 | I think he was going too fast; but it is kind of hard to tell if he was or to what extent he was speeding. Also, I can't really tell if he had opened his door to get out and check on the girl like he said in the interview (but he did stop and he was probably stunned). Can anyone tell? But yeah. Accidently hitting a child is a nightmare. One of my teachers in high school knew a semi driver who accidently hit a girl who had rode out in front of him on her bike and killed her. The man ended up committing suicide. It's not a good situation. |
| #10sfdragonOct 04, 2011 23:23:33 | nope. I doubt anyone when sheet hits the ceiling has enough brain cells to rub toigether let alone toadd 2 and 2 together and get 4 instead of 22 |

It's not a good situation. True. A few years ago a truck driver nearly ran over my sister. Fortunately when he bumped into her she fell away from the wheels and not under them, but according to my mother she had never ever seen a man look so pale and shocked, and that was half an hour afterwards when he drove my sister home. |

I think both sides are doing a little after-the-fact justification of stupid actions, because stupid stubbornness is supported here. ![]() I mean, God help anyone who hits my child in a parking lot, his fault or not. I'm not saying I condone the action, but I do understand it. Just like I understand how easy it is to go too fast in a parking lot and not really pay attention. Not saying it was right, but that I understand. The whole situation is unfortunate. ![]() |
| #13draco1119Oct 05, 2011 7:46:21 | I think both sides are doing a little after-the-fact justification of stupid actions, because stupid stubbornness is supported here. The driver didn't sound like he was justifying, just shocked that he got beaten in the middle of a parking lot. |
| #14KillerGMOct 05, 2011 9:22:54 | I think both sides are doing a little after-the-fact justification of stupid actions, because stupid stubbornness is supported here. Well, yeah. But in the article, it sounds like he's trying not to take any blame. ![]() And there are stop signs in parking lots, BTW. Not that there were ones that I could see in the video, just that there are. Just something I thought of reading back through the thread. But both kid and dude are OK, so meh. It seemed he was going too fast, and she was running in front of him. It was an accident that could have probably been avoided and people got over-emotional about it. Understandable, IMO. Seriously, imagine watching your child running off from you (like you never did when you were a kid, right?) and getting hit by a car in front of your eyes. It's a very human reaction to beat the crap out of the person who did it. Not that it's right, just understandable. If this, instead, was a video of the guy just hitting the girl, how many people do you think would have been all "I would beat the crap out of him" or worse? Meh, all in all. People should be more responsible all around - adults more than kids because, well, they're kids! Both of them are OK (just bashing damage, after all), and hopefully they've all learned a lesson about being more careful in parking lots!! ![]() |
| #15pluisjenOct 05, 2011 9:25:12 | Seriously, imagine watching your child running off from you (like you never did when you were a kid, right?) and getting hit by a car in front of your eyes. It's a very human reaction to beat the crap out of the person who did it. Wouldn't the human reaction be to make sure your kid is really alright first? Or am I just a really odd parent for being more concerned about my kid then beating up the guy who may (or may not) have hurt her? |
| #16EscherEnigmaOct 05, 2011 9:38:48 | Seriously, imagine watching your child running off from you (like you never did when you were a kid, right?) and getting hit by a car in front of your eyes. ... actually, I didn't. My parents trained me and my sisters very well to not run in parking lots and to, specifically, hold onto their hands (or rather, their pointer finger and pinky finger depending on which was extended towards us) in parking lots. My father has a story about when we were teenagers and how he was just pointing out something in a parking lot and me or one of my sisters (can't remember which he said) grabbed on to his finger without thinking. Cracked him up. |
| #17draco1119Oct 05, 2011 9:41:53 | And there are stop signs in parking lots, BTW. Not that there were ones that I could see in the video, just that there are. Just something I thought of reading back through the thread. Not in the middle of the parking aisle, which is where he was. That much, at least, is clear from the video. Both of them are OK (just bashing damage, after all), and hopefully they've all learned a lesson about being more careful in parking lots!! I so wanna play in one of your games! ![]() Seriously, imagine watching your child running off from you (like you never did when you were a kid, right?) and getting hit by a car in front of your eyes. It's a very human reaction to beat the crap out of the person who did it. Parental reaction, definitely. Apparently none of the guys were her father. ![]() OTOH, if it were anyone in my family, I would have checked to make sure the kid was ok, first. |
| #18pluisjenOct 05, 2011 9:43:24 | I would think that "make sure people are alright" would take precendence over "make sure people are not alright" all the time, but I guess many people are just too agressive for their own good. |
| #19KillerGMOct 05, 2011 9:55:42 | I said it was a normal reaction, not the only reaction. The mother, apparently, was already tending to the child - it does not surprise me that the people who didn't have something to do already went after the guy. I wasn't saying that it's the first/best/only reaction, just a human one and understandable. It's easy to sit here on the internet and proclaim all your highest ideals as what you would actually do, but it's not so easy in the real world - I'd probably be all over my son, rather than the guy, but who's to say what I'd do? All I'm saying is that it is understandable. Not making a statement about who they are as people or their value in the world. Heck, if I was there over my child and he came over to see if he was alright, I'd probably still take a swing at him! ![]() And we already know you're perfect, EE, so you don't even have to explain. ![]() Note: I am also not saying that anyone deserved what happened to them. He didn't deserve to get beat up, and she didn't deserve to get hit by a car. The whole thing is unfortunate. And LOL @ draco. I've been watching Angel on Netflix, so my mind's in a World of Darkness kind of mood! ![]() |
| #20pluisjenOct 05, 2011 10:09:02 | Must just be me then. I haven't had the desire to swing at anyone since I was 12 and threw a temper tantrum. |
| #21KillerGMOct 05, 2011 10:20:36 | Must just be me then. I haven't had the desire to swing at anyone since I was 12 and threw a temper tantrum. Well, everyone's different. However, I think it's safe to say (what with the violence in the world) that you are ... more different. ;) Not that it's a bad thing, just that it's unusual. ![]() |
| #22draco1119Oct 05, 2011 10:26:32 | And LOL @ draco. I've been watching Angel on Netflix, so my mind's in a World of Darkness kind of mood! In the last WoD game I played, I was a Lupus White Howler Ahroun. ![]() My GM was able to find me stats for The Lost Tribe. ![]() |
| #23sfdragonOct 05, 2011 10:49:41 | that kind of action of what they did would be reason enough to leave the scene and dial 911, and just tell the operator that I felt my life was in danger and tell the person where I was going. however I have never hit anyone with my car before either so the fleeing the scene has not ahppened either... |
| #24homicidal_squirrelOct 05, 2011 11:43:05 | And there are stop signs in parking lots, BTW. Not that there were ones that I could see in the video, just that there are. Just something I thought of reading back through the thread. Don't forget, most stop signs within parking lots are just suggestions. They aren't like the stop signs on roads. |
| #25KillerGMOct 05, 2011 11:46:41 | And there are stop signs in parking lots, BTW. Not that there were ones that I could see in the video, just that there are. Just something I thought of reading back through the thread. Wait, the ones on the roads aren't suggestions? Could have fooled me around here! (And the stop sign could have been out of frame, the guy speeding through it and down the isle. Just sayin'.) |
| #26zombie_babiesOct 05, 2011 12:12:50 | Let's look at the tally, shall we? Physical: Girl: hit by car, but overall not terribly hurt Guy: hit by several men, but overall not teribly hurt Ok, that's a wash. However, I'd be inclined to say it's not simply due to the pics. The girl looks fine, the guy looks like he got the **** kicked out of him. Still, getting hit by a car probably sucks pretty hard. Emotional: Girl: trauma from being hit by a car Guy: trauma from accidentally hitting a child with a car Guy: trauma from having the **** kicked out of him Yeah, not a wash. This isn't a 'things happen' sort of situation. The accident was, yes. Sometimes kids get away from us. Sometimes people don't pay the attention they should. Getting jumped by three or whatever guys afterwards isn't a 'things happen' sort of thing and shouldn't be seen as such. Just because a parent may have decided to attack the guy if they were in these guys' shoes doesn't mean it's ok to do it. It doesn't make it an excusable part of the event. |
| #27homicidal_squirrelOct 05, 2011 12:15:07 | And there are stop signs in parking lots, BTW. Not that there were ones that I could see in the video, just that there are. Just something I thought of reading back through the thread. I was talking about them being legal stop signs for which you could get a ticket and have it stick. Sure, some cop could give you a ticket for running a parking lot stop sign, but it's the easiest thing to get thrown out. |
| #28KillerGMOct 05, 2011 12:33:35 | And there are stop signs in parking lots, BTW. Not that there were ones that I could see in the video, just that there are. Just something I thought of reading back through the thread. Oh, see, I thought you were being sarcastic. Silly me. ![]() |
| #29homicidal_squirrelOct 05, 2011 12:45:02 | Oh, see, I thought you were being sarcastic. Silly me. It may have been slightly sarcastic though not totally intentional. |
| #30IdolisOct 05, 2011 14:34:23 | Don't really have anything to add to the discussion of this particular accident other than relate my personal experience with this sort of thing. I guess I was about six and I used to walk my brother to preschool and then walk to school myself. Anyway, when my parents would walk with me, they'd tell me to look both ways before crossing the street. Well, being a kid, I thought I had a better way, so I would run across the street shaking my head in both directions as to watch the street while crossing, plus it was a cool head rush when I got to the other side. Anyway, I was doing this one day, and I slipped on those pebbles come out of the asphalt right in front a car. I scrambled to get out of the way but wasn't fast enough and the car ran over one of my legs. Amazingly, it didn't break it, just pushed one of the bones in my lower leg out of joint. Well, the lady who hit me was scared witless and amazed that I wasn't crying (probably because I was in shock) but she gathered me up and put me in her car and drove me to my house. My Mom was more upset with me than she was with the lady who hit me because somehow, she just knew it was my fault. Mom's are funny that way. Well aside from having to use crutches which I never got the hang of, for a couple of weeks and having to wear an ace bandage after my leg was popped back into place, no harm was done and that my friends is how I learned to cross the street properly. |
| #31sfdragonOct 05, 2011 15:36:53 | My parents also told me not to play in parking lots and not to run outinto the street between parked cars. |
| #32sfdragonOct 05, 2011 19:12:34 | wasnt playing in the street is was not run out into the street between cars chasing a ball that got away from you |
