Isn't the newest edition always the "bestest edition EVAR!1!!!1!1eleven!!11"?

I mean after all, one must berate the previous product as "broken" or "unbalanced" in order to promote sales of the newer product.

And, if one is into conspiray theories, perhaps said products are produced as inferior or lacking to start with... just so a "new, improved" product can be produced (and purchased) next time.

Be it as it may, I haven't brought a WotC product since I purchased a 3.5 DMG,PHB,and MM a long, long time ago. And I won't ever be buying any WotC products ever again. We even play Xeno games version of Axis & Allies instead of the HASBRO version... Xeno's is better anyway...

Eh.  Like the editions before it, it will offer a different experience, with it's own merits, flaws, and details.  As a game it's only real value is in the enjoyment it brings to the players, and as such it will be better or worse depending on the group playing it and what they expect from and want from the game.

That is to say, RPGs are not "one size fits all", and comparing them in such a simplistic fashion is a fruitless endeavor.

No, it isn't.  It's not made from the tears of abused retarded children.  It can't be better than an edition that is.  Mathmatically impossible, son.

Oh, come on! 5E is not 4E, 3E/3.3E or any of those other old school jive RPG's. Therefore, logically speaking, it must be superior by pure innovation, expansion, diversity and evolution. We all know that's how the real world works right?

Man, I played some 5E last night, and I was hooked. I can't even believe I thought 4E or the rest were ever good EW. I have a nasty stain on the inside of my mouth from just thinking about how good I used too think those rip-off's were. 4E, 3.X, they ain't got nothing on this Edition of D&D. I'm going to go on record, and say that 5E is the best and greatest D&D that will ever exist.

Xeno's is better anyway...

Be wary heretic, for in the glorious spirit of the Emporer, the divine will of Mankind manifest, I shall raise bolter and chainsword in His name.  I will fall upon you with my battle-brothers as a divne rain of glory and fire, our gunships will drown out the sounds of your screams and our flamers will bring forth a light that shall burn into your skull.  We shall not stop so long as the Xenos draw breath, we shall become the very Angels of Death, we will not falter, we will not show mercy, and we shall know no fear...

I for one HATE 5th edition! The emphasis on storytelling is just too much. Im used to playing with minis and battlemats, and now im supposed to just imagine the action? What a crock!
#15

cloqwurk

Nov 19, 2009 9:23:00
Don't think of it as imagining the action, so much as you are living those actions! Trust me, minis is so last century as far as 5E is concerned. I played some of the Pro-Combat X system mechanics last night, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Now, we have this ability meter called "Juice". Every time you want to do something super Heroic/Evil, just add some "Juice",(subtract required Juice tokens) and enhance anything you do, from swinging a fist to cleaving off a head. With that added "Juice", everything is just that much more juicy. No lie. I'm going to crunch into the Xtreme-Skill Simulator mechanics tonight, take it for a test run, see how she fairs.

I look forward to revealing just how superior 5E still is compared to any other Edition of D&D. Ever.

Ok, I'm really confused.  I barely ever come to these forums now that I'm in college.  Is 5e a new edition that just came out/is comming out, or is it like advanced 2e dnd was to 1e dnd, an upgraded version of the system?  Or is this a joke?

I just wish they actually included retarded children for us to abuse (and husbands for us to batter).  I mean, it seems to have helped them with the creative process so I'd imagine it would do the same for us, you know?  Oh well, 5e still pwns.  Now with more tears!

Joking aside, the use of tokens to add extra effects to a given ability is a pretty nifty idea that I might try to add into my 4e games. (Or rather finish working on)

And blood. Tears and Blood makes 5E taste delicious by the way? I got the cases of the munchies last night and tried a nibble of my PHB 5E, you can really taste the tears. And the blood just leaves a pleasant after taste when all is et.

The joke comes from the fact that we actually use something very much like a "Juice Meter" in our games, we call it "Adrenaline Rush". Every player starts with so much reserves of Adrenaline a day, which restores itself after an extended rest, and is based upon the character's Constitution and such. By adding some Adrenaline to your next action, you can have various effects from Critical Successes to, "Holy Sh!t! What just happened?!" It's a fun little funny we came up with. It even helps keep characters in the fight, just like adrenaline works in the real world. So that little Wizard who just got knocked around? If he has some reserve Adrenaline, chances are he might not be out of the fight just yet, much to the chagrin of that boastful Lich.

oh Yes , 5E is the best ever made.  I don’t see how it can be toped... after all.. I helped make it :P

I think its just incredible on how the system managed to speed up combat by eliminating the things that slow it down.  No more mini’s , mats,  and even limited die roles.  I find we can get though a combat encounter in just under  5 minutes .. have your experiences been the same?

Also I love how easy it is to run monsters & build encounters.. whom would have thought it could be this easy before 5E ?

My players also find it much easier to be in character.  They also really like the new  improved Skill-encounter system.

Actually, the Chief has a point: 5E smacks all other Editions around when it comes to just being superior to all previous Editions. With the removal of mini's, mat's, and limited dice rolls, 5E ramps up the speed way over the limit, while keeping all those classical role-playing elements, like playing an Elf for a class, in the forefront. Excellent way to do things, but of course, this is 5E, so we should expect only the best of the best.

Last night we went through a climactic showdown against Tiamat and her Legion Spawn, all in just three minutes. I've never played a game-ending boss fight that was that fast. It was excellent. All praise 5E!

Too soon...

But what ISN'T too soon is the newest and obviously greatest editon of Dungeons & Dragons, SEVENTH EDITION! Coming out this Monday! This edition is so awesome that they were LEGALLY OBLIGATED to skip sixth edition entirely!

I was lucky enough to be on the playtest group, and let me tell you this new game is like having sex with like fifty hot girls/guys/ladyboys (Choose a preference: 7th edition is just that versitile). For the first time in Dungeons and Dragons history, you can not only play a true Dragon right out of the first Player's Handbook, but you can play a DUNGEON!

Other inovations are such things as removing the tired old Half Elves and Half Orcs and replacing them with the all new DUAL RACEING mechanic! Try all new classes like the magical Gatherer, the world-destroying Hecatomber, or the mysterious Dreamblader!

New level cap of over 9000! Gain levels faster than ever! Instead of defeating an orc giving you 25 EXP, it gives you 25 LEVELS! Leveling up unlocks new skills, feats, talents, stances, final smashes, fatalities, weapons, armours, hats, and MORE!

Still not convinced? Then you must be an IDIOT! Try out the new DDI, complete with online market for players to buy, sell, and trade equipment, retainers, mounts and even CHARACTERS! Never have to slog through tedious HOURS of gameplay to get to the content YOU DESIRE!

Only $200 for the core set of three books, and for a limited time, this includes the adventure path Grim Dark Shadows Over Blood Sorrow and Madness! The president has been kidnapped by ninjas! Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?

So remember to buy new DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS, SEVENTH EDITION!

Now where is my check, WotC?
