Enough with the nick names! Minor rant - -

Feb 24, 2009 23:03:53 It seems that every other post involves someone using an acronym or nick name or new slang term for the various classes and races. Is anyone else tired of this? I mean, I kind of like "Feylock" for the Feypact Warlock, but what's the deal with "Orbizard"? Orb mage, sure, but Orbizard? Really? How much time are you actually saving by leaving out the "w" and a space? I just read another post about a "Ch Pala". Is this some Charisma based Paladin, or some bizarre new Chia Pet? Write the name of the class, people, it's not that hard! It's a paladin, not a "Pally", your multiclass spellcaster is not a gish, and it's spelled R-O-G-U-E, not R-O-U-G-E - - learn the differance!

I dunno. Pointless as this rant is, this pretty much IS wow as far as the build nicknames go. There's no such thing as a 'wizard' or 'warlock' anymore, it's Orbizard or Starlock. And Orbizard is a pretty lame shorthand. I've heard 'Healord' once or twice, too. Gah.

Of course we owe this to Diablo II, not WoW, but with the D&D classes falling into 'roles' and 'paths', the nicknames were unavoidable. But for what it's worth, 'pally' is alright with me. Abbreviations are a different animal, and sort of predate the tabletop roleplaying game. : P

Feb 25, 2009 0:05:58 I actually like a lot of the nicknames. I think (don't shoot me) that "pally" is cute. The only other one you mentioned that I've encountered is gish. And it sort of bothers me when people misspell rogue, but it's an easy error to make- even if you know how it's spelled- when you are typing.

I like Druidzilla just cuz its kind of poking fun.

I don't mind Pally either because its often used affectionately.

There are loads I don't like though. Although they are a shorthand, they feel more like buzzwords as the time you save typing them out is neglible.

Perhaps people should just do what I've been doing for the Sorcerer (Chaos Mage/Dragon Mage) in regards to the different Wizard Mastery Features (Orb Mage/Staff Mage/Wand Mage). At least it sounds a heck of a lot better.
