Ever had one of those days when nothing goes right? Well I did...

Well yeah...let's get started. Yesterday at work, things could not have gone worse. It was absolutely terrible. Worst day I ever had at work in the entire 12 months I've been working on my gas station.

I came to work yesterday, and there was this girl washing people's windows on my gas station, and she's been there for a week now. She doesn't have strict work times and goes when she wants. She left surprisingly early yesterday, so as she was leaving, I asked her "Are you supposed to have a working time?", to which she responded "Something came up...", and by the look on her face I could see she misunderstood my sentence...she thought my sentence was supposed to be a verbal provocation to her leaving so early, and she thought I was attacking her because of it. I also asked, purely informatively, if she had any kind of legal contract with my firm, since I wanted to know if she got the same contract as I did. It was just something I asked purely out of curiosity. I then decided to leave her alone since I could see she misunderstood my question...

A couple of hour later my boss comes in, and points towards some merchandise I was supposed to clean and take the prices off it, or put new ones, if it was necessary (all of which I did), and asks why are there old prices on that merchandise, I was supposed to take them off (which I did). It would appear that another work colleague mistakenly put old prices on the products when my shift ended and I went home. Baffled, I explain to the boss that those prices were taken off and they were not there when I ended my last shift. He says "Don't give that sh**!" Furthermore he says I didn't do my job and starts mildly shouting...I explain again that I took the prices off but someone's must have put them back on...I get the same answer again.

He walks away, and I examine the price tags. They are brand new, no dirt or dust on them. The numbers on the tag are somewhat faint. All of this serves as proof that the price tags are actually new, since there is no dirt and no dust on them, and they are new. Furthermore, the price tag machine has been producing faint numbers as of late, which is why I know the price tags must have been recently added...But he doesn't believe a word I say.

He says he's gonna reduce my paycheck by 10-15%...Not that I care about that, he can do that as far as I am concerned.

It doesn't stop there though. Several hours later, I receive a phone call from my boss. He asks me why I verbally attacked the girl who was washing the windows on the gas station. I explain everything to him and he seems fine with it. So far so good...For now.

Some time later, a guy comes along, and decides his car needs some fuel. Puts around 70 bucks worth of fuel in his car, and just rides of, and pretty fast, too. No need to explain what happened there. I write a report, call the police, and notify my boss, which is the procedure on our gas station. Turns out I may have to pay for the fuel since that is kind of the policy the bosses have. I didn't see much of the car because it was around 5pm, and there were a ton of people on the gas station that were coming back from work (5pm or so is basically rush hour in Croatia) and I had my hands full with other customers. I didn't notice a thing until he drove off. We work alone in shifts so there was no one else.

At the end of my shift I take the money out of the cashier and start counting it. I'm 30 bucks or so short. This one is my fault, admittedly, but it still sucks. And maybe it wouldn't have happened if people knew what exchange offices were meant for, because people seem to think that I'm fort Knox or something when they come to my gas station and pay 30 units of merchandise with a 1,000 bill all the time. I decided to change my policy about 500 and 1,000 bills, and not to even take them from now on, except if the customer came for fuel. Of course, as I said, the fault is still mine, and only I am to blame.

I wake up in the morning, to get a call from my boss again. This time he's yelling at me because apparently, I scared the girl who was washing windows with the conversation yesterday. Turns out the girl is scared and said she doesn't wanna work there anymore o_O I seriously have to ask myself what in the name of God did I do to provoke THAT kind of a reaction on her side. I simply say to the boss "I didn't do anything." He kept saying something about me asking about her contract, how I scared her, and that she doesn't wanna work there anymore...

After I told him twice I didn't do anything, he says that if I liked the girl and wanted to ask her out, I didn't have to do it like that. Again, I was baffled, because I'm not interested in the girl, but me and her are around the same age, and she's a pretty girl too, so I guess that's about the only thing he can assume...

The he says he's taken care of it and that the girl will continue to work on the gas station. He says bye, I say bye, and we hang up.

So yeah, now I'm a pervert as well, I'm dangerous (apparently), and I'm a liar as it seems, and I like to scare girls.

I guess my course of action is to talk to the girl and explain some things to her, although I'm not a fan of this idea, since I know how the last conversation went...Maybe I should just stay away from her. Then again that's pretty awkward considering she works there, I can't just ignore her either, not after this. The again, talking to her may cause more problems than it solves, so yeah...round and round we go :P

Yeah that was long...Sorry about that guys and girls. I'm just at a loss what to do about all this.

Thanks for reading, I know I'm a drag lol.

Advise: If you talk to the girl, don't do it alone. Get your boss to witness the conversation.

Lol no way, the presence of the boss there might just scare her more.

If you don't talk to her with another person present, she can accuse you of all sorts of crap and you'll only have your word in support. Thing is, your word doesn't seem to mean a whole lot to your boss. ;) Either ignore her altogether (which is also dangerous because she can make crap up about you again) or address her with a witness.

One of my hobbies involves teaching the hobby to newcomers. Some of these newcomers are kids. It's our policy to never be alone in a room with a kid because all sorts of hell can come from it. At my job, on one of my first days, I was asked to accompany my boss on a trip to pick up a coworker who's car was stuck. She's an older woman, but he still wanted a witness. I totally understood his position and it's something I keep in mind. This is a common practice and one you should use if you choose to talk to this girl. It's better to be safe than to end up falsely accused of something. Speaking to her alone could also be seen as confrontational if she's really afraid of you. No matter what you say in that situation, she could easily take it as hostile. You need a witness. You do.

Now, all that said, I've got a couple more things to add. It's not a 'women' thing - it's a person thing. Any guy could make crap up about what you said or did, too. Some people are *******s and others don't see things as they may really be. That's life. Always have a witness if you're dealing with someone you do not know and explicitly trust. Ok. Second, quit that job. Your boss is an *******, your co-workers seem to be *******s, too and you've got an oddball psuedo co-worker on top of it. They also expect you to pay when someone else commits a crime - and that's BS. It's a gas station, man. You don't need these kinds of headaches from a godsdamned gas station job. Time to move on.

You do make an excellent point. I guess I'll do just that. My boss works on 3 different gas stations though since one quit his job, and the other is on vacation, so he is rarely on my gas station. I'll try to settle things when both the girl and my boss are present, though this could take a while to happen. I guess I'll keep quiet until then.

The girl does seem to be afraid of a lot of things though, I can sense she doesn't trust people, and she's wary of pretty much everyone. I can actually see the fear and distrust in her eyes when I look at her. She seems to be very afraid of something, and it's not just with me. I don't know how to explain it.

Now, all that said, I've got a couple more things to add. It's not a 'women' thing - it's a person thing. Any guy could make crap up about what you said or did, too. I apologize. I didn't mean what I said, I was just making a joke. I know it's a person thing, I was juts kinda in he moment lol

I already have plans to quit the job, but it will take a while. You're right about what you say, the boss is really an a******. The coworkers are really all ok though, one of them probably just made a mistake. None of my coworkers ever did anything bad to me, as a matter of fact they are all really nice people.

But yeah, this is way too much trouble for a stupid gas station job. As I said, I have a plan to quit the job, but it will take a while.

Thanks for the reply, and the suggestions.

No problem. :D Best of luck with smoothing things over with the girl and with finding a new job. This probably isn't any kind of fun, but you can make it better.

If your boss is not available, ask a co-worker (preferably someone who is neutral). As long as someone else is there, you should be pretty safe. Another woman would probably best.

Thanks, I already have a plan so it's no problem.

We work alone in shifts so I am alone there, there's no other coworker, it's just the boss, if he's there. I'll have to settle for the boss in the end.
