Yeah sure wanna bet he'll never teach again? If he has tenure, it could be extemely difficult and expensive for them to fire him. Though they can pay him to sit on his rear and do nothing. Granted I'm not an expert on the US education system, but High School teachers don't normally get tenure. NYC to stop paying teachers to do nothing And isn't it way past time?
#43 EscherEnigma Apr 18, 2010 19:18:39	... uh, the rubber rooms aren't tenure, it's a conflict between beaurecratic nonsense and union rules that makes it hard to fire teachers under certain conditions, and the schools moving painfully slowly on cases of accused wrong-doing.  It's a bad solution that no one was happy with. And that's not tenure.  Not even close.

#47 EscherEnigma Apr 18, 2010 20:59:09	Tenure = special protections for university professors and teachers to enable them to do their jobs without fear of dogmatic reprisals, and generally considered a "good" thing. Rubber Room = an unfortunate situation in which beaurecratic nonsense makes it impossible to (a) resolve a teacher's case in a timely manner, (b) fire them before the case is resolved, and (c) have them do meaningful work before the case is resolved.  This is generally considered a "bad" thing, even by the teachers that are in the rubber rooms. The similarities are superficial.
