I've been playing this game during the last weeks and found it awesome. Are there other fans of F3 around? If yes, what's your playing stile? Are you snipers, or meleers? Are you diplomats? What do you like about the game and what not?

On my side:
Style: ninja (high sneak, lockpick and science)
Favourite weapon: laser rifle
Favourite armor: Tesla Armor
Favourite location: Deathclaw sanctuary (a.k.a. Tarrasque's kindergarden)
Favourite NPC: Agatha
Favourite mission: Reilly's Rangers
Favourite monster: Yao Guai
What I like: the sense of freedom
What I hate: too many random giant radscorpions around

My last character I referred to as "Omega Lincoln"; Melee, Light Guns and Speech.

I really enjoyed Fallout, but I got kind of burnt out on it. With three DLCs coming up in the next couple months, I'll probably pick it back up at some point.

Power armor, and the Flame Thrower. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Fire.

I love how open the game is.
I need to borrow it again, I need another source of crack to get me off my Fable II addiction.

It's Oblivion with guns. Literally. I don't care what internet memes you accuse me of reciting.

And the ending is about the worst I've ever seen in a video game.

Anyway...

I like to charge in with my trusty Combat Shotgun, and shoot the crap out of everybody. When that doesn't work, I throw grenades until they all go BOOM!

And I'm actually a good guy. Crazy, but good. :D

Edit: Should've read the first post instead of skimming. Anyway;

Style: Crazy (Shotguns, Miniguns, Flamers, Grenades, and Missile Launchers, oh my! With a side-order of Rock-It Launcher, when I need to)
Favourite weapon: Combat Shotgun
Favourite armor: Ranger Armor
Favourite location: GNR Studio
Favourite NPC: Moira. She's annoying as hell, but hilarious.
Favourite mission: The superhero one in Canterbury Commons.
Favourite monster: Super Mutants. I love killing super mutants!
What I like: Being a good (but crazy) guy. It's fun!
What I hate: too many random giant radscorpions around

Aw man, I sooooooooooo want to play F3; I've played the out of F1 and F2 and loved every bit of it (never played Tactics though). Alas, my computer is older, and may not have the system requirements to run it (or more accurately, to run it well).

I've heard they really kept the "feel" of the previous games. Is that true? I have to admit, the screenshots make me drool a little, while simultaneously filling me with a sense reminiscence.

Favourite weapon: Missile Launcher
Favourite armor: Tesla Armor
Favourite location: Rivet City
Favourite NPC: Arkansas (hehehe)
Favourite mission: Killing Vampires :D
Favourite monster: Any Humanoid
What I like: Your head asplode!!

Uh, FFX had a great ending.

I thought the ending was good, not great in terms of muhmorpagur standards.

As far as FFX goes, I give it credit for its battle and leveling system, it's interesting story, and visuals. It fails in world design however. Ending was pretty average, in my opinion.

I thought the leveling was annoying in FFX. You need spheres to get abilities? They pretty much force you along a set path, except for Kimahri, so it would have been more convienient if they just gave them classes, and when they hit certain levels they get spells/abilities. It was annoying to grind till I got enough spheres to power up everyone.
The visuals are good, the story is OK. The world seems too compact, and the ending wasn't terrible, but I was expecting better.

You see, I like the set paths. The problem with FF6, FF7 and 8 was that basically, every character was identical when it came to fighting. You could randomly pick three characters and the tactics didn't change a great deal. (Spam Ultima, Spam KotR, triple cast aura and spam limits, etc.)

FF10 had a set path so all characters were different. However, in the end, you can customize if you want to (and indeed you have to if you want to fight the bonus monsters), but you aren't required to do so if you just want to beat the game.

The interface was a little odd, but you never hurt for spheres at any time, they dropped like candy.

Umm, FF6 had EVERYTHING that was different (from Character Stats to Weapons to Limit Breaks to different Abilities like Sword, Blitz, Tech, etc, etc, etc, etc....). FF7 and 8 had different Limits and Character Stats, as well as Weapons. The ONLY thing different about characters in X was a tiny bit of their Base Stats, their Limits were a tiny bit different, and their Weapons were different (and really only Waka's, in reality). Other than that, you could move any character to any other area of the Sphere Grid with specific items, and have all of your characters be exact copies of each other. The best team was obviously Tidus, Waka, and Yuna, with Waka on Auron's Grid and Yuna on Lulu's Grid, hands down. Tidus for obvious reasons, Waka had the range with his Blitzball, and Yuna had the best spellcasting in the game AND Summoning. There was literally no contest.

Seriously, that game was a Clone-fest when it came to the mechanincs, and an Emo-fest when it came to the storyline.

No, 6 didn't have any differences. You had minor stat differences that didn't do anything, abilities that you didn't use past mid-game, limit breaks that had a 1:20 chance of working if you used a normal attack at critical health (all of which means it ain't happening), weapons that you likewise never used unless it boosted one of your stats in some way, and the ability to teach every spell in the game to everyone.

You chain-cast Ultima from halfway through the game on. Unless you were creative and abused Gem Boxes and the Quick spell and had everyone cast 5 ultimas in a row.

FFX had different areas for everyone that you couldn't deviate much from until late game, and even then it was optional. You can beat the last boss handily without ever venturing into anyone else's grid. From game start to Yu Yevon, every character had different abilities, different stat balances, different spells, different everything. Only in the last 5% of the game or so did you venture into other grids to beat the challenging bonus monsters.

And before you retort anything relying on being overleveled, that's not an issue with FFX, that's an issue with JRPGS in general, if you are overleveled, you win. That's a genre problem, not a problem with the game.

Yeah, tell Cyan he only has a "Minor stat Difference" when it comes to his MAGIC ATK Stat. That's BS, and you know it. Everyone had totally different Stats, and with only so many levels to go on, you could almost never have Clone characters. Everyone could cast all spells, but it took time and work to get everyone those spells, and Ultima wasn't even close to the best Spell. I'd rather turn Ragnarok into Aura and then Lumina, then Genji it up with Cyan's Quad-slam. If you wanted cheap (IE, you didn't actually WANT to play the game, you were just bored), you simply Vanish/X-Zoned everything, duh.

I usually try to settle everything with as little violence as possible, but that asshat Family Guard Robert was listening to the "President" on the Radio, and when I turned it off, he wouldn't stop shooting me! So, of course, I killed him. Then I went to see the rest of The Family, and THEY wouldn't stop shooting me, so I killed all of them, too.

First off, "duh" is a word that rude children use and no one else. Don't use it again if you want me to take you seriously. Second, Cyan doesn't actually do that much less damage than Relm with magic attacks. They are on the opposite sides of the spectrum, and it doesn't make much of a difference. Third, you are only leveled in the mid 20's-early 30's by the time you get all the espers, which gives you more than enough time to boost everyone's stats however you want to. (Note: There are literally only a few characters where it matters to boost vigor at all, most people don't even use it. Cyan, Shadow, Gau, and Edgar use vigor, and even only a few attacks at that. Fourth, Quadra Slam is a weak attack, and won't deal nearly as much damage as he could if he just wasn't standing there charging for an entire round and acted twice.

Yeah, I don't know why you did that early in the game.

I played Fallout 3. Loved every minute of it, up to the ending.

Which is weird, because the reason I was disappointed with it was that I didn't get to run around wearing Autumn's badass coat. The rest of the ending was okay. Except for that whole little problem that Fawkes could have just done it with no problems, but whatever.

I played a good character. Like, insanely good. I pumped small arms, medical, and speech, and I was constantly weighed down by a combat shotgun, an assault rifle, a 10mm machine pistol, and a shishkabab. Fun times were had by all.

Favorite armor? Didn't really have one, but I pulled some Outcast Power Armor off an outcast guy, and that lasted me ages. Weird thing is, he got eaten alive by 3 radrats, which then "Dad" wasted in about 4 seconds with that machine pistol of his. Makes me wonder how that Outcast guy got into that power armor in the first place.

CL he's inferior. He likes 7 and X. He's probably one of those "gamers" that think pretty graphics is more important than a story. He might claim he likes those games but I doubt he'll ever play them again. Nor bring himself to see just how bad classless games are, or how sorely lacking their plots are in relation to the games that came before them. (especially 7 since it's so badly outdated graphically) and he won't once 13 comes out. It's best to ignore him.

I've been playing Fallout 3 since it came out. My main character is what I would call a gunslinger thief. His small guns is up, repair is up, and lockpicking is up. I don't really need sneak to steal stuff. My favorite guns are the lincoln repeater and combat shotgun. My favorite armor is one of the mercenary outfits or something and a sheriff hat. Style: Survivor (Leveled up all skills nearly equally. Focus on lock-picking and melee)
Favourite weapon: Shishkabob (which is depressing, because I *really* wanted the supersledge to be worth taking, but it wasn't because the shishkabob was leaps and bounds better than it)
Favourite armor: Power armor.
Favourite location: Germantown
Favourite NPC: Fawkes
Favourite mission: The one where you rescue Red
Favourite monster: Super Mutants
What I like: The open-ended world. Also, I liked that many of the side quests tied into the storyline.
What I hate: The invisible walls in downtown DC, and the inability to climb most piles of rubble/hills. I also hated the fact that I had to wait for so long to get power armor (it was my favorite armor, but I spent 95% of the game in combat armor). I hated the huge disparity in weapons (especially melee weapons), railroading me into the optimized choices. I also hated the ending- it really sucked.

Halo vs COD4? Call of Duty, easy. The entire Halo story sucked (especially 2. I'm glad Peter Jackson is no longer doing the Halo movies), and the game play just doesn't hold me (after Halo it ceased being ground breaking. Yes Bungie made lots of improvements in the field, but it's just another FPS). I prefer the look of COD4 more, I like the game play and building your combat style is fun (I think every FPS should do something like this. If COD4 had Halo's skin options, it'd be perfect).

You know, I was going to make the exact same post. I literally don't understand why you though your post was justified in any way, and my post wasn't. You PROVED that you were needlessly rude to me. I merely pointed out that you were using an arguing style suitable for grade school and that if you addressed anyone in that sort of tone in real life, there would be consequences.

I reiterate: I at no point attacked you. Even when you were needlessly rude to me, I never attacked you. You are continuing to attack me.

All because I don't like a game quite as much as you do.

Why do you not see how utterly ridiculous that is?

I attacked your argument. I said that the Stat Differences in FF6 were more than "tiny," and were in fact very important if you weren't just Vanish/X-Zoning everything (in response to you saying that Chain-Ultima was the most powerful option, when it's obvious that it isn't). I didn't say, "YOU are an idiot if you don't agree with blahblahblah," I simply stated that it should be fairly obvious for anyone who's played the game as much as you obviously have that Stats make a big difference with the limited levels you have to work with in FF6. There was absolutely nothing personal, snide, or blatantly rude in my post whatsoever.

I then stated that you saying, "Making Clone Characters of people in FFX is optional," was a horrible argument, because teaching everyone every spell in FF6 is ALSO optional. Your arguments are flawed, I called you on it, and you responded with, "STFU, *****, before I pimp-slap you for giving me backtalk, you little brat!" THAT is a flipping personal attack, and is the exact immaturity you are hypocritically shouldering me with, and it was totally uncalled for.

I'm annoyed because you seem to think you can talk DOWN to me because I disagree with you and am trying to show you that your arguments aren't making any sense. You seem to be affronted because I said "Dude" and "Duh," when I could have said, "You're an idiot, and have no ****ing idea what you're talking about."

But as I said in a previous post, that would be needlessly personal, and I really hold no animosity towards you. I have no idea why you would think I'm angry at you for enjoying FFX (I enjoy 9, and get endless amounts of crap for it). ::shrug::

I didn't say I was going to slap you. I said that if you took that disrespectful tone in actual life, you would be slapped. After you had talked to me in a disrespectful tone.

And using the word "duh" is no different than "You're an idiot, and have no ****ing idea what you're talking about." That's what "duh" means. It is only used to insult the person you are talking to and to tell them that their ideas are so stupid that it's obvious when they are wrong.

And I think you're mad at me for daring to disparage your precious, precious FF6 because you keep attacking me, and now you're resorting to distortions and baldfaced lies to continue to attack me. I never said chain-ultima was the best tactic, that's a lie. I DID say that you tended to arrive in end-game leveld mid 20's to early 30's, more than enough time to boost your stats using espers to the point where the 51-19 difference that the two most disparate magic stats are utterly meaningless, and even without boosting the differences aren't big enough to be relevant. Because of the damage algorithms, the spell power of the spell matters far, far more than your stats do until your stats are very high, like 100+ high. Cyan will literally deal 10 x the spell power less than Relm will, before calculating Mdefense, Mevade, and RNG. That's nothing. And if you used Tritoch to boost Magic, they're both probably overflowing damage with Ultima and are dealing 9999 with bolt, so it's no longer relevant anyway.

Finally, you used one character from FFX going to another grid area and say that proves that the characters are identical. It proves they can be identical in endgame. in 99% of the game, they are all different.

No, I use to "duh" to say "This should be obvious." It's another way of saying, "So, yeah." Again, though, you're still being really petty. "...your precious, precious FF6"? Why can you not just skip over the personal attacks? And lastly, this is the Internet. Expect to be disrespected.

Again, I'm not attacking you, I'm attacking your method of argument (petty personal attacks and bitter hypocritical statements, when I've aimed no REAL animosity your way to begin with). So, more than halfway through the game, when you finally get a few of the the +2 (Stat) Espers in FF6, you can start boosting people, and then you CAN spend a lot of time just getting the nastiest combos (which are totally unnecessary to begin with; Cyan SUCKS in that game, but as he's my hero, I have him Genji+Master Scroll Quad-Slam everything, because it's FUN), and THAT is why FF6 has Clone Characters? Again, that makes no sense. It's just as optional as making every character in any other FF a Clone, and a HELL of a lot more work, so it doesn't seem to be a good case for "FF6 has more Clone Characters than FFX." Again, Yuna is the best Caster (and has Summoning), so you drop her onto Lulu's Grid a bit more than halfway (I can't quite remember; I'll have to go look), and BAM! Best Caster in the game. Of course, you could move ANYONE to Lulu's Grid if you felt like it, and they'd have the exact same Abilities, Spells, Attacks, etc, with the exception of whatever their Weapon happened to be. Or, you drop anyone onto Auron's Grid (Wakka's the best because of his Ranged Blitzball), and BAM! Best melee character in the game. Again, same Abilities, Powers, Attacks, etc, with the exception again being whatever Weapon they happen to be using. I mean, Khimari is pretty much supposed to be a Clone Character, and there's even an "Expert" mode of the game, where everyone starts in the middle of the Grid, and you can make them all the exact same person. Hence, why saying FFX has less Clone Characters than FF6, 7,or 8 is just silly! The Sphere Grid was made for cloning characters.

I don't really need sneak to steal stuff.

I almost never used sneak to steal. The only thing I stole are the three keys of Fort Constantine from a ghoul in hell. They are needed to find the T-51b armor worn by the character in the opening movie.
I mainly use sneak to get close to enemies and score sneak critical headshots before they can react. Using a laser rifle you can easily clean up areas without being detected (if you have maxed energy weapons and sneak). This helps very much against Mirelurks, since you can stand there and wait for an opening without being bull-rushed.

Hey Crimson, Arioch? How about you take your little soap opera to PMs? Some of us are actually trying to talk about Fallout 3... You know, the TOPIC OF THIS THREAD?

I enjoyed the android mission too (which I just thought about). I started because I wanted the implant, even though it was from some crotchety 'holier than though' scientist. After running and gunning a couple of mirelurks, I find out, it's (no spoilers)!

So I figure, what the hell, I'll do the guy a favor. He gives me a gun, and I head over to the doc. It's night time, the main lights are turned low and... whats this? Lookie there a dark corner, just like mommy used to make! To bad it's just me and this silenced 10mm pistol. What a poor position to be in.

*thip*

Oh no! The scientist is dead! Hurry, mentally handicapped android body guard, find out who did it.

Walks out large and in charge.

Yes, you can only have characters with identical stats extremely late in FFX, when you've already beaten the game. And there's a bizarre japanese remake that no one owns because no one who isn't japanese gives a dead moose's last crap. And yes, to beat the optional monsters you have to have your characters maxed out in all stats, and spam Quick Attack with Hestega running while using Yuna to summon Aeons to take the hits you can't repel. (Why you think giving Yuna black magic makes a difference, I don't know. Black magic is weaksauce compared to Aeons. You do get a benefit from boosting stats, but it is more optimal to just finish her line before going into anyone else's.) And yes, they have one character that has a very short area and low-level locks blocking the areas nearby to make him more customizable. And even then he doesn't count as a clone because he actually starts with a pretty hefty base. If you put him through Rikku's area (which is the best choice, every other way makes him worthless), he might have a few of Rikku's abilities, but he still has much higher HP, Str, Def, and luck through the roof when you start. Not to mention that the locks that block off other area usually require level 3 or 4 keyspheres, which you don't get until extremely late in the game.

FFx's character might end up looking similar statwise, but FF6's characters START that way, and don't change unless you ACTIVELY BOOST STATS TO CHANGE IT.

You also failed to address that I broke down the freaking DAMAGE ALGORITHMS of the game, and MATHEMATICALLY PROVED that even without esper stat bonuses, stats don't matter one whit. The spell power counts for far more than your stats, and your level is also a factor. Unless you boost your stats, they don't have a big enough deviation to matter at all. I don't know what to tell you when I've mathmatically proven that even without stat bonuses, every character in the game is about the same, and the differences are mostly cosmetic. And don't give me bull about fun or not fun, that's not the argument. Purposefully using sub-optimal tactics because you think it's fun doesn't contradict my mathematical proof that the characters aren't different enough.

Again, your arguments are a mixed of distortions of facts and completes and utter lies. I don't know why it bothers you so much that I don't agree with you that you have to debase yourself.

I didn't even have to beat the game to have characters with the same stats and abilities. Infact by mid game Wakka is rendered useless by Tidus. (especially if you get the double Ap weapons)

By the end of the game Tidus was God.

So was Yuna, and Auron thanks to their initial placement.

Please educate yourself before you speak.

Ok, enough. Continue your nerdrage elsewhere, Aurioch. As before, I'm just telling you what I know from plenty of personal experience, and your argument boils down to, "GAWD, you're such an IDIOT!" instead of being a decent human being and responding with, "Well, no, this is why I think this, and why, though I could see the same thing happening in either game (depending on how you play it), I believe etc etc etc." You're having a hissy-fit over something completely unimportant, and are taking anything I say 100% personally, though I haven't actually attacked you personally even once.

Seriously, get over it. It doesn't even matter, you can make Clone Characters in a whoooole lot of the FF games, the Sphere Grid is just built to make Cloning Characters easier, and the characters themselves are annoying, so the whole game felt like Square used a sub-par System to make a mediocre game, the ending was like something out of a B-Movie, and the whole, "Let's bump the damage up to an extra digit!" thing felt like a cheap jab to make it feel more "epic." Of course, all of this is just my opinion, and no, I don't have the free time to take apart the game's mechanical details to make a mathematical scale of why it may or may not suck according to equation Y. It sucked because (as with 12) I just couldn't bring myself to actually CARE about any of the characters. It's the same reason many people really don't like 8, actually.

Again, though, this is just my opinion, and I fail to see why you need to take it personally.
