Sep 24, 2008 13:28:10 My favorite band has a song about Hobbits (Madahoochi's Took), and another that tells a story of a post-apocalyptic world where the stories of the past become the realities of the future, and vice-versa (see my sig). They have a few other songs with some at least fantasy-inspired or geek-friendly lyrics (Text **** about texting, Molecule Man which is a comic book story, etc.)

Just curious about other bands or musicians who incorporate fantasy stories or references, or who are basically geeks like us making music.

There is of course Dragonforce, and Rhapsody of Fire. Rush for the classic rock fans. I highly recommend 2112 and Fly By Night. Blue Oyster Cult did a song on Godzilla.

There is Payne's Grey if your a Lovecraft fan.

Furthermore:

I can't beat Airman

And, of course, Okkusenman.

(As a quick tip, if you search for Payne's Grey, look up "Kadath Decoded" instead. Much quicker that way.)

Actually they publicly stated they aren't fans of D&D. Stated it wasn't their generation, they were the newer generation who played video games.

They are older than I am. This statement upset me, so I pledge to continue to not pay for their music.

...I mean stop....yeah.

I am a fan of Nightwish myself for D&D music.

First off, he asked for Fantasy/Geek music. I think riding dragons to beat the Lord of Darkness at the Valley of the Damned is pretty damn fantastic.

I am a fan of Nightwish myself for D&D music.

Planet Hell and Elvenpath are two of their best ones for d+d. When I first heard their Once album, it sounded like the soundtrack to a movie version of a novel idea I was bouncing around at the time.

Sep 24, 2008 17:30:54 Definitely Nightwish & Rhapsody of Fire, but also: Blind Guardian, Elvenking, Battlelore, Bal-Sagoth, Korpiklaani, Folkearth, Dark Moor, Fairyland (yes, seriously, heh), Skylark, a few dozen others I'm forgetting. All pretty solid nerd metal.

On the extremely heavy side. Very heavy ....

Amon Amarth - I see was already mentioned. Viking themed Death Metal.

Immortal - Black Metal that often refrences a mythical realm called Blashkyr.

Sep 29, 2008 4:25:15 Speck's "Conventional Lover" has a bunch of D20 references. Even better? It's available in Rock Band 2. I can mix two of my favorite things. Other major releases referencing D&D more or less specifically, "In the Garage" by Weezer. Heck, they mention the D12, even.
