| #1EscherEnigmaJan 31, 2012 20:23:25 | This is mostly idle musing, but just what happens if no one can identify an amnesia victim? Are they given new legal identities of questionable citizenship status and age? Are they forever barred from anything that requires government-issued ID? Are they never allowed to buy a beer again? Are they deported because they can't prove they're citizens (presumably to Australia out of a mis-informed sense of mis-informed tradition)? It's just a question that popped into my head a few days ago while I was considering a backstory for a character in a modern-ish setting and I have no idea what the answer is. |

Assuming that the amnesiac's identity has not already been determined through science or memory, I might assume a government might will want to keep an eye on this person. I imagine an ID or citizenship might be granted, but I think it would be interesting see if they have any unique privelages/choices/restrictions for being a non-national. From a story standpoint, the character might live under the radar, have created a false identity, or have a unique nationality. |
