I'm sure that this has been done to death before, but I am a bit curious to see what everyone else's top 5 favorite games are. Here are mine.
God of War 2
Resident Evil 4
Neverwinter Nights (The Hordes of The Underdark expansion)
Tales of Symphonia
Suikoden 5

Hrm...

Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI and X
Knights of the Old Republic I and II
Metroid Prime 1, 2, and 3
X-Men Legends 1 and 2
Baldur's Gate II

Chrono Trigger holds a special place in my heart as it was my first RPG, and happened to be one of the most awesome ones of all time.

Final Fantasy VI and X were great for the characters. Except for Tidus, but I just remind myself that Yuna is the main character and Tidus is just the viewpoint character.

Knights of the Old Republic I and II, for their ability to portray the Star Wars universe and capture the scope and scale of it, the great characterization, and overall high grades of awesome.

Metroid Prime 1, 2, and 3 were simply stellar, and are one of the few 'shooter' style games I enjoyed. The graphics were polished, the interface was streamlined, and overall they were very enjoyable to play.

X-Men Legends 1 and 2 are great games for when you have a buddy (or small group) to sit down and play.

Baldur's Gate II is probably the single best sequel to a game ever. It took a pretty good game and knocked things up to 11. The characterization, the visuals, the story... it was simply amazing. It's one of the few RPGs that I've played through multiple times because I wanted to see how the different stories and characters would come out differently.

Ok, so I hit six. It's hard to choose.

5. Heroscape
4. Red Dragon Inn (both 1 and 2)
3. The Witcher
2. Diablo 1, 2, 3 - it's mindless, and though I get bored of it, I always come back for the new one.
and my number 1 favorite game.....

1. Planescape: Torment - for awe-inspiring story, incredible character depth, and all round epic feel, this is THE best game of all time. I've yet to encounter another game where I actually care about the characters, and was able to 'defeat' the end boss by talking to them.

In no specific order:

Prince of Persia - Warrior Within: Everything about that game, from the soundtrack to the interiors to the combat system, is made of pure awesome. Well, maybe not the camera. But no paradise without snake, is there?

Max Payne 2 - Fall of Max Payne: In hours played alone, this is my most played game by FAR. Beat it several times on all difficulty modes, and beat it some more times with every single mod under the sun. I love short games with a high replay value. And it really is exquisitely done for a TPS.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines: An RPG adaptation done right. Conveys the ultimate V:tM feel.

Battle Realms: I don't know what it is about it, but that one got me hooked up like no other RTS game to date.

Rainbow Six RavenShield: The culmination of all that was awesome about Rainbow Six - the new ones blow. But that one truly is an - no, THE - evolution of the first two games, but revamped both on the technical and the gameplay side.

Honourable mention to Dawn of War: Dark Crusade for being another excellent game adaptation, and Resident Evil 4 for a horror game done right. I also really enjoy playing XIII at the moment - love original games.

1. Diplomacy (the boardgame)
2. Final Fantasy VI (III American)
3. Baldur's Gate II - play it once every year (the whole thing with lots of modding goodness)
4. Smash Bros. Brawl
5. Portal

... I think.

There are so many good games though, and a lot of them have been mentioned here. I tried picking the ones I play the most, though Portal and Diplomacy hold special places in my heart.

Honourable Mentions: Chrono Trigger, Suikoden 5, Fallout 3, Goldeneye 64, Daggerfall, Tales of Symphonia, Civilization (all, though IV is my current crack), STALKER (hopefully, not very far), Perfect Dark, Soul Caliber III, King's Quest VI...

6) HALO

Basically any decent first person shooter...

You said decent shooter!

Loom was an old Lucasarts game very similar to the monkey island lines. You can watch the intro on youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0w2igGNpfA&feature=related

Dark forces was the original Kyle Katarn game which led to Dark Forces II (awesome as well) and Jedi Academy (I think? I never played the third game).

I'm assuming you didn't recognize the games you posted ?? after

Hey, thanks for bumping this!

I'm going to assume video games...

1. Fallout Series (1, 2, & 3)
2. Portal
3. Diablo 1 & 2
4. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2
5. Monster Rancher Series

Bioshock gets an honorable mention because it was awesome till the main bad guy is revealed and I was really disappointed with him.

Same, and quoted for truth.

Also, I'm a complete sucker for metroidvania games and isometric RPGs (diablo, fallout).

Oh yea! I loved using Speed at tier three and wasting fools in slow motion, always trying to aim to cut off their arm or head when I could. And Force Choking some fool and flinging them off a chasm was always a delight to hear their bitter screams as they plummeted. And wasting Sand People. Oh, that was just a delight.

Boba Fett with dual green sabers was wicked tight to watch him jump around and score fools. Oh, tell me you hated Rosh. He was such a whiny voiced little munchkin. It felt good when Jaden got all angst and wasted the little runt. Kyle Katarn was as cool as ever though. It was cool to fight along side him, and the BBEG at the end of the game was an intense battle too. Loved every minute of that game.
