| #1ShiftkittyDec 08, 2008 14:47:09 | Any holiday. What's your favorite memory? Mine: Christmas, was maybe 4. My brothers, ages 6 and 8, and I were going to stay up and wait until we heard the tree rattling around, then we'd put on our slippers, very plush, and slowly sneak out to the front room. My parents said it was a bad idea because if Santa knew about it, he'd take all the toys back. We decided to go for it. For my part, I didn't know how Santa was going to get in. We had no chimney! They told me that Santa was magical and could get in even through the normal vents in the roof. So we stayed awake, but very, very quiet. Then we heard him! Thump! Thump! Rattle! Right out in the hall closet! Very gingerly we pried open our bedroom doors. Then there was an awful noise and toys spilled out into the hallway! Then we heard Santa use some very un-Christmassy language. Then Mrs. Claus, who was apparently with him, said "Be quiet viejo! (old man)" We dove back into our beds rather than take the chance, but it was most curious that Mrs. Claus would use the same term of endearment that my mother always called my father...:D |

I couldn't wait to rip it open, to see what treasure it held. The big morning came and I ran to the tree, scattering smaller gifts like the rooster tail wake following a jet ski. I grabbed the big box and tore off a huge strip of paper right down the middle, exposing the words "…lenium Falc…" I think it was at this point that I fainted. |

| #101_ton_ghostDec 18, 2008 13:59:14 | Any holiday. What's your favorite memory? Tough one, gonna' go w/ the 1st one to jump to memory: Xmas '@ grandma/grandpa's, age 7 or so. Supertanker of eggnog in me, playing w/ G.I. Joe hovercraft (choice present) on the radiant heat floor, on top of metric tonage of tukey (tryptaphane) = yuletime coma... ![]() Ah, good times. Of course beating the Hell out of neighborhood kids (Halloween '92) that were stealing other kids' candy/defacing local homes/etc was immensely satisfying too. |
| #11ShiftkittyDec 18, 2008 14:26:20 | My mother would probably have listed this one because she loved to tell it- Easter, some time in the late 40's. The eggs had been colored and were hidden by her brother. The yard was a lovely garden, and every egg was found in an idyllic Easter Egg Hunt. All but one. The next year, the hunt was just as picture perfect, and every egg was found... ...plus one. It had turned a strange black color but was otherwise intact. Nobody had noticed it in the baskets when they came into the house, and one of the kids was determined to be the one to eat the "special egg". I don't know who got the surprise when they cracked open an Easter Egg that had been sitting in the garden for a year, but I understand the smell cleared the house of people! Every year my brother dyes an Easter Egg black to commemorate that tale. |
