#1 dagothi May 19, 2009 18:52:31	What has influenced your campaigns and/or characters the most? For me, I'd have to say the Elder Scrolls series, specifically Daggerfall and Morrowind.

#3 KillerGM May 19, 2009 19:22:29	The most? Star Wars, probably. Labyrinth, fairy tales, things like that. Old-school Disney movies with real villains. More recently, the Hellboy movies, Pan's Labyrinth, Neil Gaiman's stories. So, lots of fairy tale stuff.
#4 spellwyrm May 19, 2009 19:24:56	Usually speaking, JRR Tolkien, Ed Greenwood, Tom Clancy, Anne Rice, and a few others. Lots of fantasy/realism, mixed with military and political overtones. Lately though... well, I haven't been playing lately, though I think I have a new character in mind when I feel I am up to playing again, which might not be for a while.

I draw inspiration from all aspects of my life. Also, I took a Paleoanthropology class last quarter and I adopted stuff I learned there into world that I create.
#7 Ragnar_Lodbrok May 19, 2009 19:58:57	Viking Age Scandinavia, Medieval Europe, Ancient Rome, the terrain up here in the Pacific NW, and the works of Tolkien are what influence my CW most, although I should look into Arabia of the Middle Ages and Bedouin culture, along with deserts, for the southern continent.

Genres: Steampunk Fiction Cyberpunk/Post-Cyberpunk Fiction Horror Fiction Suspense Fiction Mystery Fiction Pulp Fiction Noir Fiction Specific works: World of Darkness Lovecraft Morrowind Neil Gaiman Hellboy Guillermo del Toro's Spanish Civil War Trilogy (two parts done) Prince of Darkness series Bladerunner (my favourite movie so always get influence from it) Ghost in The Shell (my favourite series so likewise) History(Periods)/Ideas/Movements: Pseudoscience Victorian Period Transhumanism Art Deco Art Nouveau Industrialism The 20's The Cold War The bolded are the ones I get my influences from the majority of the time.

I was almost always done in about half the minimum time so I would spend the rest of the time drawing dungeons. Also, in 9th grade a friend and I memorized the old viking runes and used to pass coded notes to each other. It was dorky, but it was fun.

But it had to be about animals. I just bought Open Grave the day before, so I was thinking necromancers. And so Shadowpaw P. Hellrazor IV was made.
#15 ciaran May 19, 2009 23:40:19	What has influenced your campaigns and/or characters the most? Mostly marijuana in our group, but my employer can randomly pee-test and so I abstain. Hmm... Thats not what you meant, is it? With only a few exceptions, the only fantasy fiction I've read is Tolkien's. History class as a kid and history/anthropology books I've owned as an adult have influenced me way more. Period and fantasy movies probably have in a general way, but I can't think of specific examples.

#17 Johnny_Angel May 20, 2009 0:37:35	Well, I have quite a few influences, but I'd say that some of the main influences include the following: R. Howard, Viking Mythology, Grecco-Roman Mythology, various RL experiences I've had with the military, the discovery channel, the history channel, pre-gunpowder era warfare, The Romance of The Three Kingdoms, and my dreams. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones which instantly come to mind. I had always thought the story behind the Halo games would translate pretty well into D&D by replacing the Covenant with various abberations lead by a group of religious mindflayers who sought to invade the material world in search of a way to embark upon "The Great Journey."
