I have to know, what is your favourite race in 4E or DnD in general? It doesn't necessarily have to be a player race, if you like lizardfolk, then do whatever. Tell us why you like or dislike a particular.

I like elves because they're the classic fantasy race and no race can do the "holier-than-thou" snob better than the elves.

I dislike dwarves because they all are essentially the same person copy/pasted onto different classes in different games.

3.5 Likes

Lizardfolk because one of my favorite characters was a lizardfolk Dragonfire Adept. He also had draconic heritage feats. With the way I made the character both mechanically and fluff wise he was basically a dragon. He could breath fire, grow wings to fly and had scales which means that others might mistake him for a dragon. :D

Kobold because they are the greatest race ever made. They also know how to make traps which they can use to play great tricks on adventurers.

Gnomes because they are awesome little trickster bastards.

3.5 Dislikes

Elves because they are a bunch of pansies.

4e Likes

Dwarves because they are ass kicking bad asses

Kobolds for reasons above.

Gnomes for reasons above.

4e Dislikes

Elves because they are a bunch of pansies.

I've only played 3.5, but I almost always play as gnomes. I like dwarves, especially as barbarians, and I had great fun with a tibbit once.
I don't like elves very much, they're kind of boring, plus they have the constitution penalty.

I like Humans overall. I think I've played more of them than anything else. No race really strikes me as "cool", though. They all have something that bothers me at least a little. If Humans got +2 to two Stats, I'd probably play them exclusively. Since classes pretty much require you to have two good stats, I can't. No biggie. Eladrin are alright. ;)

I absolutely cannot stand the stupid, ugly, kiddy Dragonborn. Unless you're a closet furry, I can't see any reason these stupid things would seem "cool". I just hate them. And I hate what 4e did to Tieflings as far as look and fluff goes - with a minor mechanical gripe, too. Tieflings in 4e all look the same - ugly. When I played my first 4e character (Tiefling Warlord), I made it perfectly clear to my group that he looked nothing like what they had in the PHB. 2e and 3e had it right as far as look goes. It varied. You could look like a friggin' alien or you could have some small indication of what you were. Now you have a gigantic liability of a tail - since it's useless for anything but getting stepped on, pulled or hacked into - and half of your head is a bone plate. Yay. And the name suggestions really **** me off. They actually suggest you name your character Painting or Poem or Courtesy or **** (if that's what he's into ;)). Who the **** got paid to think up that ****? Oh yeah, the small mechanical gripe. They make better Fey-Locks than Infernal Locks. That's about the dumbest thing they've got going. Whoever designed 4e Tieflings needs to be shot in the face. Anywhoo ... those are the races I dislike and why. :D

I like Hobgoblins the best.
I'm also partial to Half-Elves, mainly due to Dilitantte.

I don't really dislike any of the races, though I do feel that Dragonborn should have Lizard like sexual dimorphism, rather than mammalian sexual dimorphism. And I still say female dwarves should have beards.

I have always liked half-orcs.
Why?

First, one of the first AD&D characters (1st edition) that I rolled up after'graduating' up from expert was a half-orc fighter.

Then came the long period of DMing without playing.

Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.Elf.

I became soooo sick of DMing parties of elves that I came to fully appreciate the half-orc.

Dwarves are cool too.

Dislike?
Elves are pansies like df said.

The only thing that was really change with Dragonborn from 3e to 4e was that they went from a gained template/race to being an actual procreating race of their own. In 3e, if a woman became a dragonborn she would keep her breasts and gain scales and such. Everyone's complaint about the dragonborn is basicall MAKE THEM A LIZARDFOLK THAT CAN BREATH FIRE.

I've always kind of had a thing for halflings. And half-orcs. (I'm not sure there's any real correlation there.)

I dunno, I've just always liked the feel of the two races.

I also have a home-brewed 3.5 dex/con race called the Vett (pronounced Fett), sometimes called "mountain ghosts" or "mountain elves" - they look like tough wiry half-elves with thin cat tails (the cool kind, not the dumbass anime kind)...
They're somewhere between elves and goliaths culture-wise, very quiet and sort of spooky. They worship a moon god, and their eyes shine like the moon when light reflects off of them at night. They have the bastard sword as a racial weapon, and an ability to produce a cloud of mist vaguely like the drow's 4E power.
Scary, badass elves with big swords. :D

There were 5 elves in the 3e core. 1 in the PHB and 4 playable elf races in the MM. This is of course excluding half-elves. If anything, 4e cut down on the number of elf races. Especially in FR where it seemed like there were a hundred different elf races.

Why do people think that the female dwarf thing is so funny?

I agree. Its one of those jokes that makes me nerd rage. It wasn't funny when it was said the first time and its still not funny many years later.

My favorite races
Dwarves: 4e made them more kick ass then they already were and killed off that stupid ****ing stereotype of the bearded female dwarf. Chaos Dwarves were my second favorite race in Warhammer fantasy (Vampire Counts being first).

Yuanti: I've always thought Yuanti were cool and I've been a fan of broodguards since they were called Histaachi.

Gnolls: Demon worshipping Hyenamen. 'Nuff said.

My least favorite races
Elves: LOL L3G0LAZ!!!!

Drow: LMAO DR1ZZZTT!!!1!!

Halflings: ROFL K3ND3RZ!1!!!1!!

I just like the idea of races whose standards of beauty are not the same as humans.

A beautiful Elf, Eladrin, Deva, Tiefling, or Halfling woman has the same characteristics as a beautiful Human woman.

I just feel like there should be races that have differing standards of beauty. If female dwarves had long flowing beards, and if a well groomed beard were considered sexually attractive by male dwarves, then dwarves would, socially, be more different from humans.

Why do many people consider Dragonborn to be furry spawn? Because they made them into Cute Monster Girls. Because a draconic woman should totally look like 1990's era Pamela Anderson.

I know not everyone agree's with me, but I prefer a setting where all the races aren't just pallette swaps on the same thing.

There are such races and they are called monsters. If dragonborn where a race in 4e but were a monster race rather than a PC race then they would be more bestial like. PC races often become more and more human like over time. Those that were very unhuman and bestial as monsters have now become more human like now that they have been seen as acceptable as being PC races. This is at least what I've observed.

Heh. :D

The second to last RPGA module we played (last Sunday) had a Tiefling with one of these stupid names in it. She was a contact so we had to be nice. I think I insulted her anyway, but we got what we needed. And then she turned on us. I was so happy that we got to kill her and her stupid name. Good times! :P

On Sunday, we killed another Tiefling chick. This one worked for the Zhents. I don't know what her name was, but it was a cool fight. It ended up being pretty much me vs her in a Wizard duel. I absolutely crushed her. She took out a friend of mine, though, but I even saved him in the process of destroying her. As a matter of fact, the silly Heal Potion I used gave him more HP - 10 - than she took from me over the course of the entire combat - 8. All combat and she managed to do 8 damage to me. Poor girl. After she hit me the last time, I critted a Spectral Ram and smashed her into a wall. The total damage was near 50 (+3 staff, d8 crit and I rolled a 5, 7 and an 8). I almost felt bad. ;) This doesn't have a damn thing to do with Tieflings or the thread, but I'm a bit bored and felt like braggin' 'bout my uber pwnage of that silly Zhent. :D

Favourite: Lizardfolk, because they're different enough that you can play them as looking at things from a clearly alien mindset with out being silly, powergaming or screwing-up most storylines.
Dwarfs get a mention for the no-nonsense, practical, tech-before-magic approach they're sometimes given.
Orcs (and deep-ones if they're allowed) because you can do a good-guy, cast-against-type character without being an annoying emo Drizzt clone.
Thri-kreen because they're weird without being game breaking, but in a way thats more cool to do with npcs than pcs.

Least favourite: Halflings, gnomes and kender. Most of the people I've seen play any of these play them so you can't tell the difference between the three, and so they're very annoying aswell. Small playable races also double the amount of work I need to do whenever I need to rewrite something on the weapons lists.
Elven subraces. Why do elves get different stats based on where they grow up and humans don't?
Drow and Duergar (or whatever the dodgy dwarfs are called). Why does being evil and living underground suddenly give you superpowers? And if they're so powerful, why are they the ones getting they're backsides kicked and banished to the underground? Besides, don't normal dwarfs live underground?

Sorry about how much of a rant this has turned into.

Favourite race I would say is Tiefling. They just have always been my favourite race since I started playing D&D. It was quite a pleasant surprise to see them in the PHB (and without a LA!).

Least favourite I would say be small races that act like medium. So stuff like Halflings and such (better know with the increase in size). But it just was odd for me the idea of what is essentially a 6 year old wearing plate armour and wielding swords like a 6 foot human.

I'm sorry that your race of Mary Sues are no longer the only attractive race for PCs to play, but Dwarves and other "differing standard of beauty" races have been getting sick of being considered side kicks to the "shameless self insertion" races for a long time.

Lizardfold would become gay as hell if they were to become a rogue/stealth race. They have always been a big strong brute race with an affinity for nature. I would see them most likely having an ability bonus to Str and Wis or Con and Wis with skill bonuses to Athletics and Nature. Lizardfolk are brutes and not halfling or those queer elves.

After I posted that I thought about blackscale bruisers and the fact that they and dragonborn would both be linebackers on a DnD football team. They have that "stealthy savage" look, kind of like REH's Picts. But also one of warlike barbarism, like REH's Cimmerians. I could see them as the race suited equally to being a ranger or to being a fighter.

I have to admit I don't really have a favourite/least favourite race. There are, however, ones I can more easily relate to (and play as) as others.
Our campaign has had examples of "whiny vain pansy" elves, "too darn stubborn annoying-as-heck" dwarves and WTF?!?[insert really strange race here] as well as characters that gave off a vibe that was clearly different from how one would play that same char as human - but in a good way, not as jerks.

The whole Race X sucks because of [enter least favourite exaggerated personality trait] saddens me. I reserve final judgment until I've actually played that race for a while, because "being one of them" changes perception. Playing an elf like a Mary Sue is easy. Playing an elf rebelling against everything elvish is easy, too. But every race has brought forth a wide variety of personalities, not just humans. Playing a character as true to his/her race and upbringing without coming off as a dull summary of all the best/worst/annoying traits of that race is something most of us aspire to, right?

Perhaps I try too hard. People will like what they want to and no amount of soft talking can break prejudice. Well, it's only a game after all.

Favorite races? Goliaths, lizardfolk, and goblins (more along the MtG, bats**t crazy kind)
Least favorite? Drow, most celestials, and half-dragon/half-anything
Drow are so littered with fan-fic, Drizzt crap, eviler than SATAN, god race... *grumble grumble* *mutter*..I really don't like drow
Most people don't realize that a half-dragon is an abomination in the eyes of nature, what would you say if someone you knew slept with a lower life-form and produced offspring? Why are dragons so sexually attracted to everything but other dragons?!?!?
Also all 3.x celestials were copy-pasta of each other with a L/N/C sticker

+humans. I like how they're not the Op race of choice anymore, but still versatile and useful...maybe slightly underpowered, but at a level where giving them a +1 in something else would be over-correction.

+100 to that.

I agree with this.

My main gripe about dragonborn is that I think it would've been more interesting to have, as df put it, "lizardfolk with firebreath". You don't even really have to increase their affinity to dragons much (tons of modules, sourcebooks, and other fluff have them worshiping the things), and it would introduce a host of interesting ideas. You can even say only PC and major NPC lizardfolk get the "breath-blessing".

Seriously, why do we need another warm-blood live-birthing humanoid race?

Like Silenna says, people will like what they want...and I don't really "hate" the dragonborn. I just think it's a painfully obvious missed opportunity for some interesting rp options. I know when I ran some 4e one-shots in my 3e campaign world, I said "dragonborn=lizardfolk" and the transition was nearly seamless.

Honorable Mentions

- I wouldn't mind the tiefling ram horns/alligator tails so much if they weren't in every picture. Having a standardized concept for that is lame, especially when it's non-standard. Some people like little devil horns and forked tails, thank you. (Personally I miss the old "tiefling traits" table from Planescape. So much fun! Blue skin, black eyes, a little crown of illusory flames...)

- I am ok with their rationale for removing the gnome. The dwarf, gnome, and halfling do a lot of stepping on each other's toes, when talking about general fantasy themes. I would've picked the halfling to banish to the MM personally, but either way I accept it was a good thing for one of the two to go (they'll never banish dwarves).

Despite what many may think, I do not love or hate any D&D races. I hate overdone stereotypes, like the arrogant, haughty elves. Some stereotypes are fun, such as the ale swilling, trash talking dwarf warrior. But most stereotypes blow. So really, it just boils down to the individual for me.

It is possible that the reason gnomes got tossed rather than the halflings is that halflings are more human like than gnomes and thus it is unOK to toss the halflings.

This has been a standard theme in D&D for years. The D&D designers have always been reluctant to let a non humanoid race be a playable race. If they do make a monster race playable they try and make them as human as possible without destroying or deviating from their fluff to much. I'm sure that if halflings were the ones placed in the MM, instead of gnomes, then halflings would have gone through at least a little bit of a face lift.

I flat out cannot stand gnomes. I had a game once where out of the 4 guys playing 3 picked gnomes, and the other picked a halfling. They called themselves Short Round and the Haven Trio. Yes... they were a band, an adventuring band. Needless to say that game only lasted 1.5 sessions.

I do however really like goblinoids, something about having generally lawful organized (hobgobs as leaders) villains always struck me as more interesting than gangs like the orcs.

Favorites: It seems to be unpopular here, but I'm a nut for elves and half-elves. I also like gnomes quite a lot, both for the close with nature aspect and for the tinkerer aspect.

Least Favorites: I just don't like halflings. They're not very fun to play, and I'm really not a roguish kind of player, so the stereotypical halfling personality just doesn't work for me. I'm also not a huge fan of tieflings because I don't particularly like playing evil characters, and I think they are getting kind of hackneyed.

Good question. I personally think women insert more of themselves into the character, which would partially explain why women seem less likely to play cross gender characters then men. Maybe a female player can provide their perspective.

I think part of the elf thing is that elves are presented as more "feminine" than other races (having fancy parties, always wearing slinky clothing, softer features, liking art/poetry/"girly" things, etc). I think this tends to make them appeal to women more and men less, as it's usually women who like "feminine" and men who don't.

I mean seriously, how many jokes about "girly elves" have you heard? It's a pretty wide-spread perjorative.

Please note: this isn't necessarily how I see elves, just a common theme I've seen in elves.

I always have trouble picking "favorites" - I tend to catagorize things because it's how I work.

I really like the dragonborn because, hey, I like dragons. And playing one is pretty cool. I really like the way they look (those that I've seen).
I like eladrin because they remind me of Sidhe.
I like humans because there is a great variety of options, in both mechanics and cultures.
I really really like the 4E tieflings because I love playing girls with horns - and not those sissy 3.x horns. I hated the previous edition's tieflings - too human! I don't like playing evil characters, though, so I prefer that my backgrounds have a long-removed demonic ancestor.

I dislike halflings because they creep me out. It's a proportion thing - I want to see some kind of deformity, even children have different proportions than adults. The artwork with halflings standing next to humans really freaks me out.
I used to dislike dwarves because they got a whole lotta nothing. I've played a few, but they don't really hold an interest for me.

Non-PHB:

I REALLY like warforged because they're so different than the staple fantasy stuff. Though I haven't played one (*sigh* only GM'd Eberron, I'm afraid), I really like them.
I like changelings because I'm a fan of shapeshifting.

I like the idea behind the genasi, but the application left me annoyed (specifically, the "specialized race" kind of thing gets on my nerves).

I dislike subraces in general.

The elf thing is something I've noticed on these forums. If a person says they like elves I'll later find out that they are a female and if they elf bash then they usually are a guy.

So is it the breasts on these lizards that you like or is it the feminine elf like physique of the female dragonborn? ;)

I generally agree with Killer GM about elves. They are often portrayed as very feminine, which generally makes them somewhat more appealing than, say half-orcs. (I'm not claiming to speak for all women on this point.) I personally prefer to see masculine elven men. I think that it is possible for them to embrace magic, nature, art, etc, while still remaining masculine.

As to the comment about women and cross gender roleplaying, I disagree. I usually play female characters, but I have played several male characters as well, and I enjoyed the roleplaying experience. I don't generally play over-the-top masculine characters, but, except for one character that I made intentionally annoying, I haven't played any over-the-top female characters either. Besides, there are some men who play female characters so they can play a character they find physically attractive; who says girls don't do it too?
Sometimes it's fun to play the knight in shining armor or the half-elven bard.

First off, Orc and Half-Orc women are hot........or so I'm told. They are definitely more atractive than elf women because they aren't full of themselves.

But seriously, it's the non-feminine physique of the female dragonborn. I like that the ones I've seen have looked like members of a +2 Str race, and I like the whole dragon thing too. This is for the benefit of posters who actually read what I post. :P

So you don't like your men short? :P

No, I don't, as a matter of fact. My husband is a full foot taller than I am.

But I find halflings of any gender creepy because of the same proportions on a tiny body. *shudder*

*Note: this is only a joke because dirtyfrank is antagonizing me. I am not advocating nor glorifying violence against another poster.

Elf women aren't all full of themselves. It's a stereotype perpetuated by many players who don't care to play a meaningful character. Though my really annoying character was a female elf...

Yes, they can embrace magic and be masculine, but not with the others.

What's wrong about art? I'm not talking about analyzing art for its "deeper meanings" (*shudder*). I mean an appreciation of beauty. C'mon, guys have to have some kind of appreciation of beauty, as women are generally considered the more beautiful of the two genders, and men are (usually) attracted to them. As for nature, isn't it considered masculine to do things like camping, hiking, fishing, etc?

Yes it is considered manly to hike into the woods, set up camp, cut down several trees and to try and fish out a stream or two. So yes, destroying forests is a manly thing.

I guess art stuff is OK if it is about swooning women, such as a bard with his charming songs for a one-night-stand. If you do artsy stuff because you like it then you are feminine.

So you think that elf women aren't uppity? Also I'm assuming that you don't like Orcish women seeing as how you ignored my comment about them.

I think that some elf women are stuck-up, but that there are quite a few women of every other race that are as well. Pride is a universal fault.

I've never contemplated playing a full-blooded orc, but I did have a female half-orc monk that I created for Icewind Dale II that I liked very much. Her brother, a half-orc fighter was also in the party.

My elves tend to be taller than humans or at human height. Their weight is around what is the human ideal at the heavier end of the scale. (My Elves tend to have athletic builds. Toothpicks and fatties need not apply)

What makes elves attractive on the overall scale is that as a whole they tend to be around the idea BMI for their weight and height.

Well, one or two of them have been teenagers. Other than that, what I mean is that they are fit and heroic looking, like most other fantasy characters. I suppose you could say that. I don't like the Hollywood stereotype, though, and I think that a lot of elves are drawn freaskishly skinny. I usually ignore those pictures as the work of a bad/misguided artist. However, I think it is perfectly acceptable to draw characters as being heroic and atheletic looking, because that is a hallmark of fantasy.

I will admit bane, that if more elves were like the ones in Hellboy II I would probably find them cooler.

As-is I don't hate them, I even like them a little - I think I would like them more if fantasy wasn't so over-saturated with them. Also, in D&D they're less "awesome" because the "ageless masters of ancient magic" that LotR had has, over time, been ousted by other races (there are more "magical", more long-lived, more woodsy, more fey-ish, etc. races in D&D).

Of course putting LotR elves into D&D wouldn't work, because they would be better at literally everything than anyone else. Srsly, Tolkien, total elf fanboy. Cool in the books, not good for balance. :P

I'm not too sure about the elf/female player connection. I'd say it's more likely for women who are getting into D&D for the first time though. This isn't to say you can't continue to love elves, but I think the "generic fantasy" concept of elves contributes to women migrating toward them first, more than anything in D&D in particular. Obviously, plenty of exceptions exist, and I've seen plenty of guys who play elves too. I think FR is a source of plenty elf-fanboyism due to the many subraces - even though I loved the setting (before 4e), I could take or leave all those subraces. Should most fantasy have elves? Sure. Does it need like eight different kinds? Nah. Especially when, as people have said, humans living in different areas don't change their ability bonuses.

To drag things back onto topic for a sec - I don't really hate any race, and I think they can all be RP'd well, but I do hate racial conformity. What I mean by that is not stereotyping (as such is both useful shorthand sometimes, and other times can be fun - like ladydwarf beard jokes and pansy-elf hate :P). I mean the actual official materials pushing you towards conceptualizing a race in a particular way - i.e. the ram horns and alligator tails of the tieflings, or that elves have to be either "alien, mysterious fey nature protectors" or "hawt allies of men".

Consequently, my game worlds tend to have all kinds of weird stuff. Seafaring dwarf clans, honorable lizardfolk kingdoms, ghost-worshiping elves, and tieflings with utterly random fiendish characteristics, for example. If there isn't anything that uses your horns or tail, why does it matter what they look like? (Answer: it only matters if the official stuff picks one thing, i.e. for art, so most people don't even consider other options.)

@dirtyfrank: I have a picture of how I draw elves scanned into my computer now, but I have no idea how to put it up in the thread.

If you have the picture on the internet such as on photobucket, you can copy the URL of the picture inside of the IMAGE() code.

Ok, here it is (I hope). She's still a little thin, but she's not as bad as the highly anorexic elves I have seen in many sourcebooks.

She's not colored in. I just drew a sketch in black and white.

*sigh*

I had a better picture but it's starting to smudge and it's too light to show up on the scanner.

With you picture, you should right click and hit view image. This will bring the picture up in it's own window/tab. Copy and paste that URL.

I know it's just a sketch, that's was why I made the comment.

Right click the picture and a list of options should come up. View Image should be one of the options. Clicking on that will give you a url that ends with "jpg". Copy that into the image bb code.

The url for your picture is http://lh5.ggpht.com/_F7-koiDvWIw/SaSxfl6-6MI/AAAAAAAAACM/LSwlKQG6cEI/s512/Elf%20Wizard.jpg

Could you redue some of the lines on your other sketches and drawings so that they show up better. Then you could scan them and put them up and show everyone your sketching skills.

I really like the Genasai. Why?.. they can fly. Their also very unique and exotic, I like that.

I really dislike the Minotaur and Bugbear for the MM. The oversized weapon with the Barbarian (play test) is way too tough. It makes the other players look weak and pathetic in comparison. Regular player damage; 25, Barbarian; 45.

And they can breathe underwater, and they can set themself on fire (without hurting themselves), and they can call storms. Which is why Genasi are awesome. You forgot all the other good stuff!

Over size only allows for an average damage increase of about 1 to 2, depending on if you are using a one or two handed weapon, so how can it lead to an extra 20 damage?

Minotaurs and Bugbears are cool because they got hair. The same cannot be said for elves.

No because cutting their beards only makes them mortal. This is why Dwarven women aren't seen outside of their mountain homes that often. They are vulnerable to things like giants, dragons, and elves because they have no beards so they stay where it is safe until it can grow back.

As a race I don't like the genasi any more than a lot of others (including humans) - however I will say their szuldar are very, very cool! I think it gives artists something really fun to play with, makes them look (as you say) exotic, and tying it to a cultural aspect is extra neat.

This player was using an oversized Mordenkrad. Normally they do 2d6, it became 2d8. Barbarians have several powers that do at least 2 W, so thats 4d8 plus everything else. He easily did 40 damage (not to mention he never rolls bad). I had him change his Minotaur to the one thats in one of the Dragon magazine thats better for players.
I really just don't like the oversized property, it's too easily abused.

That should be an average of 18 damage plus bonuses. A crit would be a 32 damage plus bonuses which is a lot of damage but who doesn't do much damage with a crit. I've played a rogue that was regularly doing damage in the mid 20s to low 30s while below level 5.

A barbarian with a d12 that crits with a daily can do 36 to 48 damage plus bonuses depending on the daily. The big thing with the barbarian is that they are the class that should be doing the most damage. They also should have an armor class that is the same as a warlock or rogue but with none of the extra defensive bonuses to protect them. This means that they can do a lot of damage but must get in his/her enemy's grill to do so. This puts the barbarian in situations where they will get hit harder and more often. They will be harder to hit than anybody else on the front line. Their extra damage is to make up for the fact that it should only take a couple of rounds on the front line to knock a barbarian out. If a barbarian could stay out of combat like a ranger or warlock, or move through combat like a ranger or rogue then they wouldn't need to do tons of damage but they don't have these things going for them. They must instead be able to kill the enemy before the enemy kills them.

Cutting off a dwarf's beard does not make them a woman. Only dwarf women cut their beards.
