The Magician books here his, right? It's been forever.

The Magician Apprentice and Magician Master are his books. I think they are his first two books, if I can remember correctly. I believe he now has over 20 books that make up an entire series.

Right now I'm reading "Legends of the Riftwar: Jimmy The Hand." It is book 3 in the LotR (so lord of the rings and legends of the riftwar have the same abbreviation) set.

Jimmy the Hand is one of my most favorite characters in his entire series.

I remember that one. I wouldn't necessarily say it is one of the better trilogies that he did but I think it would be much better if you have had read the books leading up to it.

Jan 23, 2009 20:38:18 Feist ranks up there as one of my favorite authors. I've read just about everything he's written. I would say Jimmy is probably a favorite, followed closely by Pug. All in all, I think he does an excellent job of characterization.

Jan 24, 2009 17:25:33 I've read the Serpent War Saga book 1 and 2. Is was impressed, it was better than I expected. I may have read a couple other books by him. He's talented, but I don't think his books are particularly noteworthy.

Jan 24, 2009 17:28:13 I've read several different fantasy authors and out of all of them I like Feist the best. I started from book 1 and read all the way through. It may be best if you start from the beginning in order to get all of the backstory and fluff.

Jimmy the Hand and the Upright Man were two of my favorite characters, in my own campaign the Faceless Man the leader of the thieves guild was based on the Upright Man.

Jan 24, 2009 17:35:31 I think that Jimmy has a half brother that replaces the original upright man. I believe the original upright man is suppose to be Jimmy's dad. The upright man is cool in the fact that he is a mysterious controller of the cities underworld but other than that he isn't much important.

The plots - IMO - were a little to straight forward. Not much gray area. Things developed as expected. No blending of good and bad guys. Etc.

It depends on what books/trilogy you read. In one book a character is seen as a bad guy. You find out he is just being controlled by a necromancer. In the next book he is exiled and you see him as the good hero. He ends up as a good guy.

Some of the books are a bit easy to see what's going to happen. With some others it is damn near impossible to see what will happen next.

I do agree that his later works were getting more complex. I just wish he used his "cooler" characters with those plots. At any rate, fantasy as a whole has become something I find too ... I dunno. I just can't get into it any more. Feist was one of the first casualties because of this. Goodkind was the first, though. Because he sucks. ;)

I liked Mara of the Acoma from the Daughter/Servant/Mistress of the Empire series. I'm a sucker for a story about an underdog gaining power and prestige through manipulating the system, or outright defying tradition. Plus it gave more insight into the world of Kelewan, which I always found interesting.

I must say that I don't care much for Pug's second wife (Miranda sp?).

Jan 30, 2009 9:36:44 I read the two Magician books (here in Italy they are sold together as one single book divided in two big parts), and three others (Silverthorn, Krondor The Betrayal and A Darkness at Sethanon).
My fav character is prince Arutha, followed by Pug.
Loved the books, especially Magician.

And then the elven queen says something like "that whole tower would be gone if he was angry."

It was one of the few times Tomas left, but maybe it was the gold dragon in human form who said it instead. It's been ages.

Feb 01, 2009 11:20:30 If it was during the serpent war saga and Tomas was involved then it would likely have been after the demon queens armies got to the Kingdom. I think I know where and when it happened now, and it probably was the dragon who said that.

I remember that one. I wouldn't necessarily say it is one of the better trilogies that he did but I think it would be much better if you have had read the books leading up to it.
