Wow man was this whole event awesome and man I cannot wait for the issues that take place after. Heres a summary and I'll be providing some links to some of the stuff people may not know about. Major changes to the DCU. Earth-51 is back, a hodgepodge of other Earths with Kamandi at its center. It's a great set up for a new book and is basically established in one panel. The New Gods are back, but I'm a little unclear if they're back on Earth-0 or another Earth. It just says "a new world" which could mean Earth-0 without Darkseid (yes, he's dead) or another Earth entirely (I'm kind of hoping for the latter). The general public knows that 52 other Earths exist. It would appear that Hawkman and Hawkgirl died. Batman is, it would seem, in the past somewhere (and there when Anthrodies). The book does not end with Kamandi. The Monitors are no more, aside from Nix and Weeja (I'm assuming on the former). The original Aquaman is back. Superman faces off against Darkseid, who's dying after being shot. The Flashes arrive with the Black Racer who finds a new target in Darkseid (because he is, after all, dying). The heroes and villains join together to try to save the world. The "Black Gambit" is an effort to create tunnels into Earth-51 to repopulate. But the tunnels don't hold and most of the deaths occur because of the collapsing tunnels. The heroes attempt to shrink and store the rest of humanity, in hopes of someday being able to revive them, as Earth-0 has fallen "into the Abyss" as Renee calls it. Superman is the last person on what little remains of Earth 1 and is working on finishing up the Miracle Machine as everybit of existence is pretty much gone and there's no light to power the Miracle machine. Darkseid shows up in some disembodied form and taunts Superman saying he failed, but Superman is able to destroy Darksied by singing a tune he learned in Superman Beyond when he found out everything is made up of its own Cosmic Song. Superman finds the fire of the gods in Metron's chair when he's able to hear its heartbeat due to there now being absolute silence and hopes to use it to restore Earth-0 but is, of course, stopped by Mandrakk. Then Nix Uotan arrives and we get four pages of fight scene, two of which are a double page spread. Some notable moments include The return of the Forever People, Captain Carrot, the Japanese Heroes brought back to lifethe legions of Supermen from alternate Earths led by Renee Montoya, and the Green Lanterns driving an Emerald stake through Mandrakk's heart. There able to what seems like Kill Mandrakk, and give Superman the time to activate the Miracle Machine and assure the escape of everyone to a new Earth by wishing for a happy ending. In the end we see Nix Uotan informing the Monitors of whats happening and see him have one final moment with Weeja Del as it seems the Monitors are ceasing to exist. We then see a man who resembles Nix waking up, so I'm assuming that the Monitors have been reborn in human form. All in all I've loved this event, much better than Marvel's Secret Invasion was (Though I liked that to)seeing how it actually looks like the event itself is something important and actually has affected the status quo in a way that doesn't just feel like lead into the next big event (I.E. Secret Invasion just feeling like a lead into Dark Reign in the end). I heartily reccomend picking this up in trade and if you wanna pick this up now, all your really need is the main series itself and Final Crisis: Revelations and Superman Beyond.
