I'll be moving to Hammonton, New Jersey from Iceland next summer and I am on the hunt for a group close enough to play with.
How likely it is for me to find a group... I am not sure.
I will be going to Winslow township high school, at the age of 16 (hoping that out of the 1700 kids, there is at least 1 fellow gamer..)

This quest for a group made me realize how hard it is to find a good game in this mass of people.. I am the DM for a group in Iceland (that I don't particularly like) and feel like we are the only group in the country..
I know I'm totally rambling, but it just hit me that unless you have group of friends that are interested in starting, It's not easy to find a group.

How hard was it for you to find a group and was it your friends or did you have to go looking for one?

I'm so sorry. Let me express my condolences to you. New Jersey sucks. Really really sucks. When people from NJ find out I moved there they ask why anyone would want to come there. It sucks. Anyway, looks like you'll be a bit far from me (Dover).

Check out meetup.com, I haven't had much luck with it but you might fair better. Also, you can do what I did to keep playing with friends back home. Just get a VTT like MapTool (free from rptools.net) and play online.

Also, when you start making friends, just sort of feel them out. Look for someone that plays another RPG or fantasy game, even if its a computer game, and try to introduce them to it. However, don't overlook someone just because they have no experience with that sort of thing. I've gotten people into D&D that I never would have expected in a million years to play it, while sometimes the ones who were the obvious candidates just had no interest in even trying it.

If you are searching for a group then the proper place to post the thread is in the Gamer Classifieds section of the forums.

Yeah, I'm sorry. I just noticed that and am looking into that.

bone_naga: I have gotten my friends back in Iceland into it (they didn't even know what it was) but they were already into that kind of stuff.  I was however hoping to find more experienced players, I have always wanted to try playing instead of DMing. I might be asking to much but I'm being optimistic ..... for the moment.
Once I move here, I'll try posting something on like a bulletin board at the school or something.

Thanks!

Hey, I actually grew up in Hammonton and I play in a group there every week. But its a group that's I've pretty much been playing with (off and on) since I was in high school (I'm 28 now). So I don't think we're looking for new members, especially ones that are not around our own age.

But I got into it through a friend and then again through a local comic books shop (sadly that shop has since closed down). But I imagine there should be interest if your going to Winslow for high school because of the size.

Although, if you don't mind me asking, why are you going to Winslow? I was under the impression that Hammonton actually takes in students from surrounding areas. That may have changed since no one I know still goes to school there. Also, were in Hammonton are you going to be moving to?

Anyway, good luck!

Scypio: Well, it's nice to hear that this is even going on around here. Sucks to be at the age that this game USED to be played..    I'm not clear on why I'm going there. My sister moved here to dad's a few years back and they decided to take her to that school for some reason. I think it was because they didn't like some other school or something (it looks like a nuclear testing facility .. and it's next to a graveyard..)  And I'll be down on Waterford road.
