| #1fenrir7139Mar 15, 2009 16:57:52 | So, I just bought it (and a new DS) yesterday; it seems pretty solid to me. Not a whole lot of change to the FE formula, but then, it's a remake of the first game if I remember right, so... I suppose, in a way, it IS the formula. One cool thing, though is the Reclassing system; essentially, you're able to change any character's class, though their are limits; namely, certain classes can't become certain things, and you can only have so many of one type of unit (I think the Cavalier/Paladin limit is 4). The only thing I dislike about it, though, is that the Hunter Class can't reclass to Archer... when they're basically the same thing. Seriously. They both only use bows; the only difference is that hunter's move somewhat further and have higher damage offset by lower defenses. ![]() Other than that, it's a good game, so anyone with a DS should check it out. Anyone else play it yet? |
| #2Ragnar_LodbrokMar 15, 2009 17:10:43 | Great game. The reason hunters can't reclass to archers is because the two are meant to be similar, with major differences: Hunters are strong; Archers are defensive. EDIT: Oh, you already mentioned that. Still a big difference. |
| #3fenrir7139Mar 15, 2009 17:20:15 | Well, I still don't like it... I understand your point, though. I just like the horseman class. Gordin would be a kickass horseman! |
| #4Ragnar_LodbrokMar 15, 2009 17:51:10 | Ya, horsemen happen to be my favorite class as well (fast and versatile ). I basically decided I'm gonna buff Ogma as much as possible and reclass him into a Hunter before evolving him. Mercenaries have proven the most effective melee unit in my games. Good skill, good strength, good movement, and decent speed and defense. |
| #5fenrir7139Mar 15, 2009 18:02:33 | Good idea! I think I'll do that as well! But yeah, Horseman rule. If I could, my entire army would be made of horseman, with a few Cavaliers for lances, and maybe a couple heroes for axe support. Heroes rule. :D Now that I said that, I've decided to change a few characters to Merc... EDIT: Of course, iknow I'd be screwed if ay enemies with a Horseslayer got behind my infantry, but w/e... |
| #6baneofelvesMar 15, 2009 18:29:30 | Get some Wyvern Riders, too. They look cool and kick ass. |
| #7Ragnar_LodbrokMar 15, 2009 19:34:16 | Get some Wyvern Riders, too. They look cool and kick ass. Ya, I was planning on evolving Abel to paladin and reclassing to dracoknight, since aerial support would be of use. Everything else: hero, paladin, berserker, swordmaster, (at least) one of each type of caster, and the required lord. |
| #8torynMar 15, 2009 19:38:40 | Is it better than the 2 for GBA? If so, I may just have to break down and buy a ds. I have FE and FE:Sacred Stones, and love Sacred stones. I just wish there were more items available to change all your classes without bankrupting you. My faves are Joshua evolved into a swordmaster and Garcia evolved into a warrior. He kicks major butt with that bow I also like all of my casters changed into sages except the pupil. I change him into a mage knight. |
| #9Ragnar_LodbrokMar 15, 2009 19:59:42 | Is it better than the 2 for GBA? I'd say it's about equal to Sacred Stones, but with better combat graphics. |
| #10The-Mage-KingMar 16, 2009 8:23:11 | I beat that thing within the first week of buying it, and I got it at release. I do like the reclass system, but I wish you could level up your characters outside of the story. SS was better in that way. What level's your lord? |
| #11torynMar 16, 2009 15:59:23 | My cartridge had a glitch and I had to start over. Right now, I am at the battle for Jehanna. Ephraim will be level 17 before I change, and Eirika will be 14. (I went with Ephram's battles over Eirika's because I like Ephraim's style more) |
| #12pigknightMar 16, 2009 16:01:28 | How hard would it be for a FE9/10 player to change to SD? |
| #13fenrir7139Mar 16, 2009 16:37:39 | How hard would it be for a FE9/10 player to change to SD? Not too difficult; the basics of gameplay are the same, it's just that: 1. You get the reclassing feature (which you don't even have to use if you don't want to. 2. No Bonus XP 3. No Laguz 4. More linear classes I can't remember if FE9 is the Sacred Stones or Path of Radiance, sorry. But, the classes are still more linear; Cavalier -> Paladin, Knight -> General, etc, so, no more Great Knights (which sucks, cuz I liked them). Still, you can reclass at anytime before the battle by Stage 4, so... Yeah. If you have a DS, and you liked 9 and 10, I'd suggest getting it. |
| #14pigknightMar 16, 2009 16:47:16 | Time to get a DS then. And Radiant Dawn is linear but added a 3rd job to each tree. Ranger -> Lord -> Vanguard |
| #15fenrir7139Mar 16, 2009 17:01:56 | True, I haven't played it for a long time. And yes, get one. NAO! |
| #16baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 17:15:17 | no more Great Knights (which sucks, cuz I liked them) You actually managed to put them to good use? I thought Duessel was fairly useless, since some INFANTRY (heroes or swordmasters, and assassins I think) move faster than Great Knights, and they're cavalry. How did you manage to make them useful? (I prefer Paladins and Wyvern Knights for Mounted units) |
| #17torynMar 16, 2009 17:53:42 | You actually managed to put them to good use? I thought Duessel was fairly useless, since some INFANTRY (heroes or swordmasters, and assassins I think) move faster than Great Knights, and they're cavalry. How did you manage to make them useful? (I prefer Paladins and Wyvern Knights for Mounted units) I would use them in the tower of valni to level up other characters like ewan and ross. I would put their weapons in the supply train, and let the great knights take the hits. Then I would attack with the little units. It makes for good power levelling. |
| #18baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:00:57 | I've never found a use for great knights. My paladins tend to be more resilient and stronger, even if they are at the same level, using the same grade of weapon. Yes, I like the Paladins. Awesome attack, speed, defense, agility, and only a few weaknesses. |
| #19Ragnar_LodbrokMar 16, 2009 18:04:57 | Meh, I happened to get Franz to level 20 on the first boss that dropped the item used to evolve cavaliers, so I made him a Great Knight. Him, Cormag, and Gerrik have since owned everything I've thrown them at. Duessel, well, he's just got bad stats. The useful parts about GKs are their strength, versatile weapon choice, and godly defenses. I'm on level 16 in FE8, and currently Franz is invincible against any nonboss. The Grado emperor? 2 hits with a Hammer. |
| #20baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:07:43 | Heh, I had Ephraim use his Reginleif lance and he managed a crit, and I boosted him with TONS of upgrade items. He one shotted him. Cormag is made of win, Gerrik is alright, but Joshua as a Swordmaster....oh, man. THAT is just made of win right there. He took out Caellach no problem. (yes, I prefer to have 'themed' fights where the people that know one another and are enemies fight each other) |
| #21fenrir7139Mar 16, 2009 18:29:06 | I like themed fights, too; unfortunatly, there seems to be little of that kind of stuff in SD; maybe it's because it's a remake, and they focused less on that kind of stuff back in the day or something, I don't know. Course, I haven't beaten the game yet, so maybe there's more as time goes on. |
| #22baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:30:39 | You may just be throwing the wrong characters at the bosses. |
| #23torynMar 16, 2009 18:30:49 | I like using Seth, Garcia (as a warrior), Joshua (as a swordmaster), Neimi ( as a ranger), and Gerik (as a hero) to hold the front lines with Moulder, Lute and Artur as sages. I also like Knoll as a summoner and I have recently tried Ewan as a summoner. It makes for a good solid team. |
| #24pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:31:17 | FE Lore Question: Is Ike gay for Soren? Text says yes. |
| #25baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:34:09 | YESYESYES. It is SO obvious. (Are we talking about Path of Radiance? That's the only one I've played that has Ike in it, but I know there's a new one with him in it) |
| #26fenrir7139Mar 16, 2009 18:35:23 | @ Bane: Maybe, I dunno... @ Toryn: I always had Neimi and Gerik as Rangers. Neimi was badass! Her skill was through the roof; it seemed like she would crit every other hit! |
| #27pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:36:24 | Ya, and in Radiant Dawn he and Soren go off together. And dude could've done Mia and Lethe. |
| #28fenrir7139Mar 16, 2009 18:39:46 | Lulz. Brokeback Emblem. :P |
| #29pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:40:28 | ![]() |
| #30baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:40:38 | Areyou serious? He coulda had Mia AND Lethe and he went off with Soren? Brokeback mountain.... Wait. Soren is androgynous. Maybe he is actually a she. Or they could just be gay. |
| #31pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:43:33 | Mia AND Lethe can get A rank bonds with Ike in both games. (Not including that **** Elincia 'cuz she runs off with Geoffory.) |
| #32baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:44:42 | Are you serious? It seemed like they were setting up the two in Path of Radiance. Is radiant dawn only for the Wii? |
| #33pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:45:36 | The ending cinematic was totally setting them up. And ya it is. |
| #34ranadielMar 16, 2009 18:47:17 | Ya, and in Radiant Dawn he and Soren go off together. *sigh* The endings and support conversations in the Gamecube and Wii FE were by far the weakest parts of those otherwise great games. Ike should have had a paired ending with at least one of the girls he had supports with in the first one! You know what Fire Emblem game needs to get remade now? Fire Emblem 4, now that was a great Fire Emblem......Oh right getting slightly more on subject. I have FE:SD, but I haven't opened it yet. Honestly I'm not in any rush to play it yet(I have way too many games to play at the moment). It is missing one of my favorite aspects of the more recent Fire Emblems, the support conversations. I know it is a remake and all, but I consider them to be one of the best things to happen to the series. |
| #35baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:48:06 | dammit. Is it worth getting a Wii just for that game? I've noticed that most Wii games are just gimmicky. How does the story of Radiant Dawn compare to Path of Radiance? And difficulty? |
| #36pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:48:28 | *sigh* The endings and support conversations in the Gamecube and Wii FE were by far the weakest parts of those otherwise great games. Ike should have had a paired ending with at least one of the girls he had supports with in the first one! He ran off with Soren... Maybe he was gay all along? It explains so much. EDIT: RD makes grown men cry on medium. Hard is suicide. |
| #37baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:50:20 | Good. the Blazing Sword, Path of Radiance, and The Sacred Stones were all WAY too easy for me. |
| #38ranadielMar 16, 2009 18:50:30 | He ran off with Soren... It doesn't explain anything other than the fact that he has only two paired endings and both of them are with guys. Really RD messed with all the couplings from PoR. I mean Mist and Boyd? Where the heck did that come from? |
| #39pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:51:36 | Mist is about the same age as Boyd. Ike - ~18 Boyd- ~16 Mist- ~15 |
| #40baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:53:19 | In PoR or RD? Mist looked like she was about 10-13 in PoR. |
| #41pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:54:02 | In PoR. She's the same age as Jill. Rolf is like 14. |
| #42baneofelvesMar 16, 2009 18:58:54 | What? Rolf looked like he was 10! Those artists need to learn to draw people at the right age. |
| #43ranadielMar 16, 2009 18:59:35 | Mist is about the same age as Boyd. Actually I wasn't talking about age. I just meant that I didn't recall any indication that either of them had feelings for each other. I just reread their supports, and I can sort of see it if you stretch it a little bit. I still say that it came completely out of left field though. In PoR. Rolf is that old? But he practically acts like he is ten in PoR. I don't recall him being much better in RD either.....Then again I never used him in RD. |
| #44pigknightMar 16, 2009 18:59:45 | Read the support text. @Boyd/Mist: They could've been "gettin' it on" and didn't want Ike to know, and since your point of view is from Ike... |
| #45torynMar 17, 2009 14:10:41 | @ Bane: Maybe, I dunno... I like Neimi as a ranger (mostly because I hate the way they implemented the sniper class, as well as Innes. He is so cheesy imo), and used to use Gerik as a ranger, but I started changing the way I evolved my units a bit. I like him as a hero better than a ranger. It seems more fitting to me, flavorwise. The only thing I need to figure out is how to get the secret shops to appear on my map so I can get more level up items. I hope to eventually have all of my units evolved, including Amelia (paladin) and the pegasus riders. I will probably make them into wyvern riders. I haven't ever evolved Larachel or the healer woman that is Joshua's love interest (I don't remember her name offhand), so I do not know what they become. |
